Blue Ox base plates are custom designed for each specific towed vehicle. When you purchase a Blue Ox base plate, it includes all the necessary hardware and instructions for a do-it-yourself installation.

Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. That agricultural engineering heritage still shows in how the towing products are built, and the company holds patents across weight distribution, fifth wheel and tow bar designs.
Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.
The wider flat towing range covers supplemental braking systems, safety cables and the accessories that make a complete legal setup, along with baseplate wiring and dinghy towing harnesses that pass lighting signals to the towed vehicle without back-feeding its electrical system.
For conventional trailer towing, Blue Ox weight distributing hitches with integrated sway control transfer tongue load onto the tow vehicle's front axle and resist the yaw that crosswinds and passing trucks induce.
The company describes its foundation as customer service, designing around what owners actually ask for, and it runs an RV park adjacent to the factory where customers can stay. Sister operations at the same Nebraska site include Automatic grain roller mills and MAD-RAMPS pivoting ramp systems.

Yes. Trimming is required. You will use a reciprocating saw to remove the area below the knob down to just below the factory hole and back flush to the side of the frame on both sides. You will also trim the bumper backside and lower sections of plastic shrouding for baseplate clearance.
Position the baseplate onto the vehicle with the backside 4-1/4" from the face of the frame, level and clamped into position.
According to the bolt torque specifications chart, 3/8"-16 Grade 5 bolts should be torqued to 33 foot-pounds. However, always apply Loctite Red to all bolts before tightening and tighten according to the torque chart provided.
According to the bolt torque specifications chart, 1/4"-20 Grade 5 bolts should be torqued to 10 foot-pounds. Always apply Loctite Red to all bolts before tightening.
According to the bolt torque specifications chart, 6MM Grade 8.8 bolts should be torqued to 6 foot-pounds. Always apply Loctite Red to all bolts before tightening.
A total of 5 holes are drilled through the frame: 2 on the passenger side and 3 on the driver side. The lower back hole on the passenger side is not used due to clearance for the washer reservoir.
The baseplate is attached to the frame using 3/8"-16 x 1-1/4" hex head bolts (Grade 5) with 3/8" lock washers and 3/8" nut plates on the inside of the frame. A total of 9 of these bolts are used. All bolts must be treated with Loctite Red before tightening.
The baseplate is attached to the bumper using 3/8"-16 x 1-1/4" hex head bolts (Grade 5) with 3/8" lock washers and 3/8" whiz nuts on the inside of the bumper. All bolts must be treated with Loctite Red before tightening.
Remove the two ground wire screws from the side of the frame using a 10MM socket. Drill a hole through the upper frame flange using a 1/4" drill bit. Secure the ground wires with the supplied 1/4"-20 x 3/4" bolt and lock nut.
Reinstall the washer reservoir using the supplied 6MM bolt and 1/4" flat washer.
The baseplate is computer tested to your vehicle's GVWR. Exceeding this weight will void the manufacturer's warranty. Reference your vehicle owner's manual for manufacturer's towing specifications.
Permanent baseplate safety cables are strongly recommended when towing a vehicle with a tow bar. They must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member of the vehicle's frame. The cables must not be mounted against wires, hoses, or brake lines. These cables are to be used in conjunction with, and not as a replacement for, legally required safety cables attaching the towed vehicle to the towing vehicle.
If the baseplate is in an accident, it must be replaced. Do not use it again. An accident can cause unseen damage and using it again could result in more damage or serious injury. Do not use the baseplate if it is damaged or missing parts.
Be sure that all electrical connections are plugged in and accessories are functioning properly before reinstalling the fascia.
It is the owner's responsibility to inspect all towing equipment for cracked welds, missing or worn parts, and loose bolts before each towing trip. Be sure to use Loctite Red on all bolts and tighten to the recommended specifications. Register your product online at www.blueox.com to be alerted of product offerings, updates, upgrades, maintenance and safety bulletins, and/or recalls.
Yes. Use a good quality paint to spray cut edges of frame to prevent rusting.

The BX8869 Tail Light Wiring Kit is recommended for this vehicle. The manual instructs to drill a hole according to the tail light wiring kit instructions, but does not specify whether it is included or must be purchased separately.
Remove components in this order: (1) fascia (using 10MM socket for two screws and removing five push pins, then 8MM socket for wheel well screw on both sides, then eight push pins from underside), (2) temperature sensor from top of bumper, (3) bumper (using 12MM socket for four screws and 10MM socket for nuts on both sides), (4) windshield washer reservoir (using 10MM socket for two screws and Phillips screwdriver for one screw), (5) air baffle (using 10MM socket for three screws).
Reinstall components in this order: (1) air baffle on driver side, (2) washer reservoir using supplied 6MM bolt and 1/4" flat washer, (3) bumper, (4) front fascia.
Yes. After drilling the top back hole and installing the first bolt on both sides, temporarily reinstall the bumper and trace the backside along the frame cuts on both sides. Remove the bumper again and trim the marked areas with a reciprocating saw. Then continue drilling the remaining holes through the frame before reinstalling the bumper permanently.
Do not assume existing factory bolts are adequate for baseplate mounting. Always use the hardware supplied in the hardware kit and existing hardware as specified in the installation instructions. If a bolt is lost or needs replacement, use a replacement bolt of the same grade (in most cases Grade 5). Replacement parts may be ordered through your nearest Blue Ox Dealer or Distributor.
Handling of some cosmetic parts when installing this product may require the use of protective covers, rags, specialty tools, etc. to prevent damage.
Place all components that are removed on a flat, sturdy surface. All items will be reinstalled unless otherwise noted after the baseplate is installed.
When using power drills be aware of the dangers of torque and drill bit length. When using a reciprocating saw be aware of objects behind the cutting surface.
Be sure the safety cables do not rub against any hoses or moving parts. Do not mount the permanent baseplate safety cables against wires, hoses, or brake lines. It is the installer's responsibility to watch for oil cooler and air conditioner lines, electrical wires and hoses, and missing parts or attaching points on the frame.

Torque 3/8"-16 Grade 5 bolts to 33 foot-pounds. Apply Loctite Red to all bolts before tightening.
Permanent baseplate safety cables are strongly recommended. They must connect from the baseplate to the frame and must not rub against hoses or moving parts. They supplement, not replace, legally required safety cables.
Before each towing trip, inspect for cracked welds, missing or worn parts, and loose bolts. Use Loctite Red on all bolts and tighten to specification. Register your product at www.blueox.com for safety bulletins and recalls.
The lower back hole on the passenger side is not used due to clearance for the washer reservoir. This is normal and expected. Only drill and install bolts in the two holes on the passenger side and three holes on the driver side.
Temporarily reinstall the bumper and trace the backside along the frame cuts on both sides. Remove the bumper and trim the marked areas with a reciprocating saw. This ensures proper alignment before final installation.
The dimensional variations between otherwise identical vehicles can be considerable. It may be necessary to tailor the baseplate slightly to compensate for vehicle manufacturer's tolerances. Contact Blue Ox Technical Service at (402) 385-3051 for guidance if significant adjustments are needed.
Reposition the safety cables so they do not rub against any hoses or moving parts. If the recommended mounting location interferes with other options, secure the cables to a solid piece of the frame as described in the instructions included with the permanent baseplate safety cables.
