Blue Ox base plates are custom designed for each specific towed vehicle. When you purchase a Blue Ox base plate, it includes all the necessary hardware and instructions for a do-it-yourself installation.

Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. That agricultural engineering heritage still shows in how the towing products are built, and the company holds patents across weight distribution, fifth wheel and tow bar designs.
Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.
The wider flat towing range covers supplemental braking systems, safety cables and the accessories that make a complete legal setup, along with baseplate wiring and dinghy towing harnesses that pass lighting signals to the towed vehicle without back-feeding its electrical system.
For conventional trailer towing, Blue Ox weight distributing hitches with integrated sway control transfer tongue load onto the tow vehicle's front axle and resist the yaw that crosswinds and passing trucks induce.
The company describes its foundation as customer service, designing around what owners actually ask for, and it runs an RV park adjacent to the factory where customers can stay. Sister operations at the same Nebraska site include Automatic grain roller mills and MAD-RAMPS pivoting ramp systems.

The BlueOx Tow Bar Base Plate, Front Mount, RV Flat Towing for Select, NISSAN PICKUP (2WD) (Part #FDRWBX1812) fits the following vehicles: 1986-1994 Nissan D21; 1995-1997 Nissan Pickup. Always verify your specific year, make, and model before ordering.
The BlueOx Tow Bar Base Plate, Front Mount, RV Flat Towing for Select, NISSAN PICKUP (2WD) (Part #FDRWBX1812) Refer to the included instructions for installation details. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
The BX1812 baseplate is designed for 1986 1/2–1995 Nissan Pick-up models with 2WD (two-wheel drive). If your vehicle is outside this year range or has 4WD, this baseplate is not compatible.
The kit includes: one baseplate (61-3360), two hex nuts with tabs (61-3359), six 1/2-13 x 1 1/2 hex head bolts (201-0051), four 1/2-13 hex nuts (202-0005), six 1/2 lock washers (203-0012), two 36" safety cables (226-0049), and four 1/2 quicklinks (229-0512). The kit does not include the tow bar; that is ordered separately.
You will need: 3/4" socket, 3/4" open-end wrench, center punch, hammer, and a 9/16" drill bit. A drill press or hand drill capable of drilling through vehicle frame and tie-down brackets is required.
Yes. Installation requires drilling nine 9/16" diameter holes: two holes in each of the two tie-down brackets (four holes total) and one hole in the bottom front of each frame rail (two holes total). The frame rail holes may already exist; if so, check that they will accommodate a 1/2" bolt or enlarge them as needed. Pilot drilling is recommended before drilling to final size.
Six bolts total: four 1/2" bolts attach the baseplate to the tie-down brackets (two on each side), and one 1/2" bolt attaches through the baseplate and into each frame rail hole (two bolts). All bolts use lock washers and must be treated with locktite before installation.
1. Center punch and drill 9/16" holes in each tie-down bracket using the provided template. 2. Position the baseplate and hand-start the four 1/2" bolts with lock washers and nuts to the tie-down brackets; apply locktite but do not tighten yet. 3. Insert a 1/2" bolt with lock washer through the baseplate and frame bottom hole. 4. Insert a 1/2" nut with welded tab into the frame slot with the tab first and on the bottom of the nut. 5. Rotate the bolt to start the nut onto it. 6. When all bolts align, tighten securely.
The oblong slot on the outside of the frame rails provides access to the bolt ends after installation. The 1/2" nut with the welded tab is inserted into this slot to allow the bolt to be rotated and started onto the nut.
Yes. Locktite must be applied to all six bolts before installation. Apply it when hand-starting the bolts to the tie-down brackets and the frame rail bolts.
The manual notes that dimensional variations between otherwise identical vehicles can be considerable. If a bolt does not clear, it may be necessary to file the hole slightly to allow clearance. Do not force bolts or modify the baseplate structure.
The baseplate uses 1/2-13 x 1 1/2 hex head bolts (part 201-0051) for the tie-down bracket attachment and frame rail mounting. All bolts are 1/2" diameter and use 1/2" lock washers (203-0012).
The two hex nuts with welded tabs are inserted into the oblong slots on the frame rails during installation. The welded tab is positioned first and on the bottom of the nut, allowing the bolt to be rotated and started onto the nut through the frame slot.
Do not substitute other devices if the pin and clip are lost. Contact the manufacturer or an authorized dealer to obtain replacement pins and clips. Using non-approved substitutes may compromise safety.
Yes. After the baseplate is installed and tightened, install the tow bar and safety cables according to the instructions included in their separate packages. The kit includes two 36" safety cables (226-0049) and four 1/2 quicklinks (229-0512) for this purpose.
The BX1812 is designed for 1986 1/2–1995 Nissan Pick-up (2WD) only. It is not compatible with 4WD models or vehicles outside this year range.
Yes. You must drill nine 9/16" diameter holes: two in each tie-down bracket and one in each frame rail. Pilot drilling is recommended before drilling to final size.
You will need a 3/4" socket, 3/4" open-end wrench, center punch, hammer, and 9/16" drill bit. A drill capable of drilling through vehicle frame and brackets is required.
