Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. That agricultural engineering heritage still shows in how the towing products are built, and the company holds patents across weight distribution, fifth wheel and tow bar designs.
Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.
The wider flat towing range covers supplemental braking systems, safety cables and the accessories that make a complete legal setup, along with baseplate wiring and dinghy towing harnesses that pass lighting signals to the towed vehicle without back-feeding its electrical system.
For conventional trailer towing, Blue Ox weight distributing hitches with integrated sway control transfer tongue load onto the tow vehicle's front axle and resist the yaw that crosswinds and passing trucks induce.
The company describes its foundation as customer service, designing around what owners actually ask for, and it runs an RV park adjacent to the factory where customers can stay. Sister operations at the same Nebraska site include Automatic grain roller mills and MAD-RAMPS pivoting ramp systems.

Yes, the BlueOx Tow Bar Base Plate, Front Mount, RV Flat Towing for Select, TOYOTA TACOMA 2WD (Part #FDRWBX3732) is designed to fit the 1998-2000 Toyota Tacoma.
The BlueOx Tow Bar Base Plate, Front Mount, RV Flat Towing for Select, TOYOTA TACOMA 2WD (Part #FDRWBX3732) Refer to the included instructions for installation details. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
The BX3732 baseplate is designed for 1998–2000 Toyota Tacoma 2WD models only. It will not fit 4WD Tacomas or other model years. Confirm your vehicle year and drivetrain before purchasing.
No. The BX3732 must be used only with a tow bar approved by Automatic Equipment Mfg. Company. Using it with any other tow bar will invalidate the limited warranty. Contact the manufacturer or your dealer to confirm tow bar compatibility before purchase.
Yes. Bumper removal is required to install the baseplate. Before removing the bumper, take three or four measurements between the bumper and body so you can reinstall it in the correct position.
You will need: 12mm socket, 14mm socket, 3/4" wrench, Phillips screwdriver, and Loctite Blue. These are required to remove the bumper, install the baseplate, and secure all fasteners.
1. Take three or four measurements between bumper and body for reinstallation reference. 2. Use a Phillips screwdriver to unscrew the center of the two plastic rivets on the bottom edge of the bumper, then pull the rivets out. 3. Use a 12mm socket to remove the bolt in each fender well facing rearward. 4. Use a 14mm wrench to remove the two bolts on each side that bolt the bumper to the frame. 5. Unplug the lights in the outside corners of the bumper. 6. Remove the bumper from the pickup.
The baseplate mounts on the top of the frame. The holes in the baseplate align with 1/2" holes on the top and outside ends of the frame. Nut wires are supplied to go inside the frame tube; access is found on the inside of the frame near the radiator through a rectangular opening.
The kit includes: 1 baseplate weldment (61-5152), 4 wire nuts (61-4029), 2 bolts 1/2-13 x 1 1/2" Grade 5 (201-0051), 2 bolts 1/2-13 x 3" Grade 5 (201-0490), 2 flat washers 1/2" (203-0005), 2 washers 1.5 OD x 1/2" ID x 1/4" (203-0127), and 4 lock washers 1/2" (203-0012).
Yes. Apply Loctite Blue to the bolts before starting them. The manual specifies Loctite Blue for initial installation. After installation, the owner should use Loctite Red on all bolts and tighten to recommended specifications before each towing trip.
The thick washer (1.5 OD x 1/2" ID x 1/4", part 203-0127) is meant to keep the main tube from collapsing as the bolt is tightened. It should be placed on top during installation.
Dimensional variations between vehicles can be considerable. If a bolt does not clear a hole, it may be necessary to file the hole slightly to allow the bolt to pass. This is a normal part of installation and does not indicate a defect.
Reverse the removal steps: reconnect the lights in the outside corners of the bumper, reinstall the two bolts on each side using a 14mm wrench, reinstall the bolts in each fender well using a 12mm socket, reinstall the two plastic rivets on the bottom edge, and use your earlier measurements to ensure the bumper is in the correct position. Test the lights to confirm they are working properly.
Permanent baseplate safety cables are strongly recommended. They prevent the towed vehicle from breaking loose if the connection between the frame and baseplate fails. Safety cables must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member. They are to be used in conjunction with, and not as a replacement for, legally required safety cables attaching the towed vehicle to the towing vehicle.
Mount the permanent baseplate safety cables from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member of the vehicle's frame. Do not mount them against wires, hoses, or brake lines, as improper installation could cause fluid leaks or electrical shorts.
Before each towing trip, inspect all towing equipment for cracked welds, missing or worn parts, and loose bolts. Tighten all bolts to recommended specifications using Loctite Red. It is the owner's responsibility to ensure all equipment is in proper condition.
Yes. Register your baseplate online at www.blueox.com. Registration is crucial so you can be alerted of product offerings, updates, upgrades, maintenance and safety bulletins, and recalls.
Remove the attachment tabs when the baseplate is not in use (if applicable to your model).
The BX3732 fits 1998–2000 Toyota Tacoma 2WD only. It does not fit 4WD models or other years.
No. Use only with tow bars approved by Automatic Equipment Mfg. Company. Other tow bars will void the warranty.
Yes, bumper removal is required. Take measurements before removal to reinstall it correctly.
12mm socket, 14mm socket, 3/4" wrench, Phillips screwdriver, and Loctite Blue.
