Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. That agricultural engineering heritage still shows in how the towing products are built, and the company holds patents across weight distribution, fifth wheel and tow bar designs.
Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.
The wider flat towing range covers supplemental braking systems, safety cables and the accessories that make a complete legal setup, along with baseplate wiring and dinghy towing harnesses that pass lighting signals to the towed vehicle without back-feeding its electrical system.
For conventional trailer towing, Blue Ox weight distributing hitches with integrated sway control transfer tongue load onto the tow vehicle's front axle and resist the yaw that crosswinds and passing trucks induce.
The company describes its foundation as customer service, designing around what owners actually ask for, and it runs an RV park adjacent to the factory where customers can stay. Sister operations at the same Nebraska site include Automatic grain roller mills and MAD-RAMPS pivoting ramp systems.

The BlueOx Tow Bar Base Plate, Front Mount, RV Flat Towing for Select, VW CC SPORT E13 (Part #FDRWBX3829) fits 2009-2012 Volkswagen CC models. The 2012 model year is the last year covered by this part number. For newer models, check for an updated version.
The BlueOx Tow Bar Base Plate, Front Mount, RV Flat Towing for Select, VW CC SPORT E13 (Part #FDRWBX3829) Refer to the included instructions for installation details. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
Yes, the BX3829 is designed for both the 2010-12 VW CC Sport and 2008 VW Passat Turbo. However, some installation steps differ between the two models. The CC requires removal of four fascia screws from the top edge, while the Passat requires eight. The Passat also requires removal of four additional screws from the backside of the fascia behind the wheel wells using a 10MM socket, which the CC does not.
The attachment tab height is 11-1/2" and the attachment tab width is 20".
The BX8869 Tail Light Wiring Kit is recommended for this vehicle, not required. If used, you must drill a hole according to the tail light wiring kit instructions.
Required tools are: Large Vise Grip, Utility Knife, Torque Wrench, Drill, Reciprocating Saw, Tape Measure, 13/32" Drill Bit, 16MM Socket, 9/16" Socket, 9/16" Wrench, T25 Torx, T30 Torx, and 10MM socket. You will also need Loctite Red.
Yes. The fascia and metal bumper must be removed and reinstalled for baseplate installation. The fascia is removed first by taking out multiple Torx screws from the top edge, wheel wells, underside, and backside (Passat only), then disconnecting electrical connections. The bumper is then removed using a 16MM socket and T30 Torx screws.
Yes. Drilling is required. You must drill the frame using a 13/32" drill bit to create four mounting holes on each side of the vehicle (eight total). The baseplate is used as a template for drilling. The first hole on each side is drilled after the baseplate is leveled and clamped, then the remaining three holes are drilled after the first bolts are installed.
Yes. Trimming is required on both the frame and bumper. On the frame, you must use a reciprocating saw to cut the webbing on both sides, making vertical cuts between marks at 2" and 5-1/2" from the top edge of the frame end. On the bumper, you must trim the backside to match the trimmed frame area on both sides. On the passenger side only, you must cut two horizontal slits in the bumper and bend the tab inward for nut plate access. You must also trim the shrouding flush with the bottom of the bumper on both sides.
The manual provides torque charts for Grade 5 and Grade 8 bolts but does not explicitly state which grade applies to the 3/8-16 x 1-1/2" bolts (part 201-0440) used for baseplate mounting. According to the torque chart, a 3/8" Grade 5 bolt should be torqued to 33 foot-pounds, and a 3/8" Grade 8 bolt to 47 foot-pounds. Consult the parts list or contact Blue Ox at (402) 385-3051 to confirm the correct grade and torque specification.
The kit includes: one baseplate weldment (61-6755), eight 3/8-16 nutplates with 14" wire (61-5208), eight 3/8-16 x 1-1/2" Grade 5 hex bolts (201-0440), eight 3/8" lock washers (203-0010), two #12-14 x 1" self-drilling screws (201-0979), two #10-32 x 1/2" slot round head screws (201-0192), two #10 lock washers (203-0054), two #10-32 hex nuts (202-0047), two 4-way connectors (101-5822), two right-side attachment assemblies (62-3468), one 6MM-1.00 x 45MM Grade 8.8 hex bolt (201-0702), one 6MM lock washer (203-0161), seven 5/16" flat washers (203-0002), one 1/4" schedule 40 pipe 3/4" long (106-0366), two 36" Class III baseplate safety cables (226-0046), two 3/8" quicklinks (229-0359), and two black cap plugs (290-0437).
Yes. You must use Loctite Red on all bolts before tightening. This is required both during initial installation and for ongoing maintenance before each towing trip.
The baseplate is computer tested to your vehicle's GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating). Exceeding this weight will void the manufacturer's warranty. You must reference your vehicle owner's manual for the manufacturer's towing specifications.
If the baseplate is in an accident, it must be replaced. Do not use it again. An accident can cause unseen damage, and using it again could result in more damage or serious injury. Do not use the baseplate if it is damaged or missing parts.
No. You must use only genuine factory replacement parts on your baseplate. Do not substitute homemade or non-typical parts. If a bolt is lost or needs replacement, use a replacement bolt of the same grade (in most cases Grade 5). Replacement parts may be ordered through your nearest Blue Ox Dealer or Distributor. Failing to use correct replacement parts will void the manufacturer's warranty.
Blue Ox recommends that the baseplate be installed by Blue Ox Dealers who are familiar with their products and have the equipment and knowledge necessary to do "fit work". Blue Ox Dealers can be found at www.blueox.com or by contacting Blue Ox Customer Care at (402) 385-3051.
Permanent baseplate safety cables are strongly recommended when towing a vehicle with a tow bar. They prevent the towed vehicle from breaking loose if the connection between the frame and baseplate fails. The cables must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member. Two cables are included in the kit (part 226-0046, 36" Class III). The cables must remain installed as long as the baseplate is installed and must not be mounted against wires, hoses, or brake lines.
No. Permanent baseplate safety cables are to be used in conjunction with, and NOT a replacement for, legally required safety cables attaching the towed vehicle to the towing vehicle.
Before each towing trip, inspect all towing equipment for cracked welds, missing or worn parts, and loose bolts. Ensure that Loctite Red is used on all bolts and that they are tightened to the recommended specifications according to the torque chart.
Yes. The attachment tabs should be removed when not in use, if applicable.
Handling of some cosmetic parts when installing this product may require the use of protective covers, rags, and specialty tools to prevent damage. Be careful when removing and reinstalling the fascia and bumper.
Use a good quality paint to spray cut edges of the frame to prevent rusting. This is important for protecting the frame from corrosion after trimming.
Yes. Be sure that all electrical connections are plugged in and accessories are functioning properly before reinstalling the fascia. This prevents having to remove the fascia again if there are electrical issues.
After sliding the baseplate onto the vehicle, level and clamp the baseplate to the frame before drilling the first hole. Ensure the baseplate is still level and fully tighten fasteners after installing the first bolts on both sides before drilling the remaining holes.
Two electrical connections must be disconnected: (1) all electrical connections to the fascia when pulling the corners away from the vehicle, and (2) the electrical connection on the driver side in front of the tire behind the frame before removing the bumper.
First, level and clamp the baseplate to the frame. Using the baseplate as a template, drill the first hole in the side of the frame rail with a 13/32" drill bit on one side. Install a 3/8-16 x 1-1/2" bolt with a 3/8" lock washer and nut plate into this hole. Repeat on the other side. Ensure the baseplate is still level and fully tighten these fasteners. Then continue drilling out the remaining three holes on each side of the baseplate through the frame and install bolts with lock washers and nut plates.
Hold the fascia as close to its original position as possible, then mark and trim the fascia around the convenience links and attachment tabs. After trimming, reinstall the fascia and grille.
Yes, the BX3829 is designed for both 2010-12 VW CC Sport and 2008 VW Passat Turbo. Installation steps vary slightly between the two models.
Yes. You must drill four holes per side of the frame using a 13/32" drill bit and trim the frame webbing and bumper with a reciprocating saw. Trimming is permanent.
You need a torque wrench, reciprocating saw, drill with 13/32" bit, 16MM socket, 9/16" socket, T25 and T30 Torx drivers, and 10MM socket. Loctite Red is also required.
Yes, both the fascia and metal bumper must be removed and reinstalled during installation.
The baseplate is rated to your vehicle's GVWR. Exceeding this weight voids the warranty. Check your vehicle owner's manual for towing specifications.
Yes, two 36" Class III safety cables are included. They are strongly recommended and must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member.
Before each towing trip, inspect for cracked welds, missing or worn parts, and loose bolts. Ensure all bolts are tightened to specification with Loctite Red. Register your product at www.blueox.com for safety bulletins and recalls.
