Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. That agricultural engineering heritage still shows in how the towing products are built, and the company holds patents across weight distribution, fifth wheel and tow bar designs.
Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.
The wider flat towing range covers supplemental braking systems, safety cables and the accessories that make a complete legal setup, along with baseplate wiring and dinghy towing harnesses that pass lighting signals to the towed vehicle without back-feeding its electrical system.
For conventional trailer towing, Blue Ox weight distributing hitches with integrated sway control transfer tongue load onto the tow vehicle's front axle and resist the yaw that crosswinds and passing trucks induce.
The company describes its foundation as customer service, designing around what owners actually ask for, and it runs an RV park adjacent to the factory where customers can stay. Sister operations at the same Nebraska site include Automatic grain roller mills and MAD-RAMPS pivoting ramp systems.

The BX3828 is a baseplate designed for the 2008 Volkswagen EOS. It is used to mount a tow bar to the front of the vehicle for towing purposes. The attachment tab height is 15 inches and width is 21 inches.
Motorhome mount tow bars are recommended for use with the BX3828. The RangeFinder II, Adventurer and Ambassador tow bars cannot be used due to the design of the removable tabs. The Acclaim tow bar may be used, but will not fold and store on the front of the vehicle.
Most adapters cannot be used with the BX3828 baseplate. The exceptions are the BX8833 and BX88151 adapters, which are compatible.

The BX8848 4 Diodes Wire Kit is recommended for the 2008 VW EOS, but the manual does not state whether it is required. Contact Blue Ox Customer Care at (402) 385-3051 for clarification on whether it is necessary for your specific installation.
The following components must be removed and reinstalled: grille, fascia, marker light, washer reservoir, headlights, horn, horn bracket, air dam, bumper and headlight bracket. Additionally, the temperature sensor on the driver's side must be removed and repositioned.
Yes. Blue Ox towing products and accessories are intended to be installed by Blue Ox Dealers who are familiar with the products and have the equipment necessary and knowledge to do 'fit work'. Blue Ox Dealers can be found at www.blueox.com or by contacting Blue Ox Customer Care at (402) 385-3051.
Yes, drilling is required. The installation involves drilling multiple holes with 1/4", 13/32" and 17/32" drill bits at specific locations on the frame and bumper extension to mount the baseplate and nut plates.
Yes, trimming and cutting are required. The air dam must be trimmed 1 7/8" down from the top on both sides. The frame rail end must be cut with a reciprocating saw even with the inside of the frame. The bumper must be cut on the back side following the inside of the extension. Additionally, a hack saw blade is used to remove area around the attachment tab receiver to allow it to come through the fascia on both sides.
Yes. The installation requires drilling holes in the frame and bumper, trimming the air dam, and cutting sections of the frame rail and bumper. These are permanent modifications. The manual also notes that dimensional variations between vehicles may require minor adjustments such as filing holes, bending electrical rods or bending end plates.
When cutting the frame rail end with a reciprocating saw, be sure not to cut into the frame itself—cut only even with the inside of the frame and down. Similarly, when cutting the bumper, cut straight across the opening and down following the inside of the extension, then straight across the bottom, being sure not to cut into the frame. After cutting frame edges, spray them with good quality paint to prevent rusting.
The manual provides general torque charts for Grade 5, Grade 8, Grade 8.8 and Grade 10.9 bolts. For Grade 5 bolts: 1/4" = 10 ft-lbs, 5/16" = 19 ft-lbs, 3/8" = 33 ft-lbs, 1/2" = 78 ft-lbs. For Grade 8 bolts: 1/4" = 14 ft-lbs, 5/16" = 29 ft-lbs, 3/8" = 47 ft-lbs, 1/2" = 119 ft-lbs. All bolts must be tightened according to these charts on page 1 or page 3 of the Baseplate Towing General Instructions. Loctite Red must be used on all bolts before tightening.
The attachment tab height is 15 inches and the attachment tab width is 21 inches.
The marker light running lights must be unplugged. The washer reservoir has two electrical connections that must be disconnected. The horn bracket has a wire (gray arrow) that must be unplugged. The temperature sensor on the driver's side must be removed and repositioned. All electrical connections must be plugged in properly and functioning before installing the fascia.
The permanent baseplate safety cables are strongly recommended when towing a vehicle with a tow bar. Their principal function is to prevent the towed vehicle from breaking loose in the event the connection between the frame of the towed vehicle and the baseplate fails or becomes disconnected. The cables must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member of the vehicle's frame. Each cable must have an adequate weight rating for the towing system; the weight rating of two cables together will not qualify as a single cable. These cables must remain installed as long as the baseplate is installed and are to be used in conjunction with, not as a replacement for, legally required safety cables.
The permanent baseplate safety cables must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member of the vehicle's frame. Do not mount the cables against wires, hoses or brake lines. The manual provides illustrations showing possible recommended arrangements for cable mounting.
If the front of your vehicle looks different than shown in the manual, call Blue Ox Customer Care at (402) 385-3051 before attempting installation.
If the baseplate is in an accident, it must be replaced. Do not reuse it. An accident can cause unseen damage, and using it again could result in more damage or serious injury. Do not use the baseplate if it is damaged or missing parts.
Towing behind a non-motorized vehicle will void the warranty on the BX3828 baseplate.
When using power drills, be aware of the dangers of torque and drill bit length. These can cause injury if not handled properly.
It is the owner's responsibility to inspect all towing equipment for cracked welds, missing or worn parts and loose bolts before each towing trip. Be sure to use Loctite Red on all bolts and tighten to the recommended specifications.

Before each towing trip, inspect the baseplate for cracked welds, missing or worn parts and loose bolts. Ensure all bolts are tightened to specification with Loctite Red. Verify all electrical connections are plugged in properly and functioning.
If the two bottom holes do not line up, it may be necessary to separate the belly pan from the fender well plastic. Use a T-25 Torx to remove the three torx bolts on both sides, then pull the wheel well plastic back to ream the existing holes.
Remove the temperature sensor on the driver's side, turn it around and reinstall so that it is pointing up, not down.
The manual does not provide a remedy for cutting into the frame. This is a critical error that could compromise the structural integrity of the vehicle. Contact Blue Ox Customer Care immediately at (402) 385-3051 for guidance. To prevent this, when cutting the frame rail end with a reciprocating saw, cut only even with the inside of the frame and down, being sure not to cut into the frame itself.
The manual warns to be careful not to cut the nut for the washer reservoir on the inside of the frame on the passenger side during the frame cutting step. If this occurs, contact Blue Ox Customer Care at (402) 385-3051 for guidance on replacement or repair.
Ensure that all electrical connections are plugged in properly and functioning before installing the fascia. If connections are not functioning, check that all wires are properly reconnected and plugged in. The marker light running lights, washer reservoir electrical connections and horn bracket wire must all be properly connected.
