Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. That agricultural engineering heritage still shows in how the towing products are built, and the company holds patents across weight distribution, fifth wheel and tow bar designs.
Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.
The wider flat towing range covers supplemental braking systems, safety cables and the accessories that make a complete legal setup, along with baseplate wiring and dinghy towing harnesses that pass lighting signals to the towed vehicle without back-feeding its electrical system.
For conventional trailer towing, Blue Ox weight distributing hitches with integrated sway control transfer tongue load onto the tow vehicle's front axle and resist the yaw that crosswinds and passing trucks induce.
The company describes its foundation as customer service, designing around what owners actually ask for, and it runs an RV park adjacent to the factory where customers can stay. Sister operations at the same Nebraska site include Automatic grain roller mills and MAD-RAMPS pivoting ramp systems.

No. The BX1764 is designed exclusively for 2024-2026 Chevy Trailblazer LS/LT models only. It does not fit RS or Activ trim levels.
Yes. The BX1764 is specifically designed for 2024-2026 Chevy Trailblazer LS/LT models and includes support for vehicles with Adaptive Cruise Control, Top Shutters, and Turbo engines.
The BX1764 attachment tab height is 14.5 inches and the width is 26 inches. You must ensure that any tow bar you use is compatible with this 26-inch tab width.
Required tools include: torque wrench, drill, reciprocating saw, level, Loctite Red, flat screwdriver, T15 Torx driver, 1/2" drill bit, and sockets (7MM, 10MM, 11MM, 15MM, 9/16"), wrenches (11MM, 9/16"), and a 3/4" socket.
Blue Ox recommends that baseplates be installed by Blue Ox Dealers who are familiar with the products and have the equipment and knowledge necessary to do fit work. Dealers can be found at www.blueox.com or by calling (402) 385-3051.
The fascia, windshield washer fluid reservoir, impact bar, and bumper must be removed during installation. All items are reinstalled after the baseplate is installed, except for the bottom plastic shroud piece which is not reinstalled.
Yes. Drilling is required. You must drill a 1/4" starter hole in the frame, then drill out the top hole with a 1/2" drill bit to accommodate the support plate installation on both sides of the vehicle. Additionally, a hole must be drilled according to the BX88269 LED Tail Light Wiring Kit instructions.
Yes. Using a reciprocating saw, you must trim the horizontal slat on the fascia on both sides of the vehicle to allow clearance for the attachment tab and convenience link.
If needed, you may use a reamer to slot the four holes 1/8" to 1/4" on the bumper towards the outside on both sides. This is done to ensure the bumper holes line up properly with the baseplate.
The installation sequence is: (1) Remove fascia, wheel well trim, and impact bar; (2) Remove windshield washer fluid reservoir; (3) Remove bumper and bottom plastic shroud; (4) Slide baseplate onto vehicle and level it; (5) Reattach impact bar and top shutters; (6) Install support plates with drilling as needed; (7) Attach safety cables; (8) Trim fascia for clearance; (9) Reinstall windshield washer reservoir and fascia.
Use the torque charts provided in the manual based on bolt size and grade. For metric bolts: 10MM Grade 5 = 31 ft-lbs, 10MM Grade 8 = 40 ft-lbs. For inch bolts: 3/8" Grade 5 = 33 ft-lbs, 1/2" Grade 5 = 78 ft-lbs. Always use Loctite Red on all bolt threads before tightening. Specific torque values for individual BX1764 bolts are not detailed in the manual.
The baseplate is computer tested to your vehicle's GVWR. Exceeding this weight will void the manufacturer's warranty. You must reference your vehicle owner's manual for the manufacturer's towing specifications and ensure you do not exceed your vehicle's GVWR.
Permanent baseplate safety cables are strongly recommended. They prevent the towed vehicle from breaking loose if the connection between the frame and baseplate fails. The cables must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member. Safety cables must not rub against wires, hoses, or brake lines. These cables are in addition to, not a replacement for, legally required safety cables attaching the towed vehicle to the towing vehicle.
No. If the baseplate is in an accident, it must be replaced. Do not use it again. An accident can cause unseen damage, and using it again could result in more damage or serious injury. Do not use the baseplate if it is damaged or missing parts.
Before reinstalling the fascia, ensure that all electrical connections are plugged in and accessories are functioning properly. If the electrical plug interferes with the temperature sensor, the sensor may need to be removed and relocated.
Verify that the baseplate is level and centered. Ensure all bolts are tightened to the appropriate torque specifications using Loctite Red. Confirm that safety cables do not rub against any hoses or moving parts. Check that all electrical connections are plugged in and functioning. Inspect that the fascia trimming provides adequate clearance for the attachment tab.
It is the owner's responsibility to inspect all towing equipment for cracked welds, missing or worn parts, and loose bolts before each towing trip. Use Loctite Red on all bolts and tighten to the recommended specifications. Register your product at www.blueox.com to be alerted of product offerings, updates, upgrades, maintenance and safety bulletins, and recalls.
The kit includes: 8 existing 10MM x 1.5 x 40MM bolts, 8 existing 10MM flat washers, 4 Whiz nuts with 10" wire, 2 attachment tab assemblies, 2 support plates, 1 electrical bracket, hex head bolts (1/4"-20, 1/2"-13, 3/8"-16), self-drilling screws, hex nuts, lock washers, flat washers, 2 Class III safety cables, 2 3/8" quicklinks, 2 8" nylon cable ties, and 2 black cap plug receivers. See the parts list on page 3 for complete details.
No. You must use only genuine factory replacement parts on the baseplate. Do not substitute homemade or non-typical parts. If a bolt is lost or needs replacement, use a replacement bolt of the same grade (usually Grade 5). Replacement parts may be ordered through your nearest Blue Ox Dealer or Distributor. Failing to follow this requirement will void the manufacturer's warranty.
Blue Ox offers a three-year limited warranty from the date of delivery to the original retail purchaser. The warranty covers defects in material and workmanship under normal use. Warranty is valid only if the customer warranty card is returned within 30 days of purchase and a copy of the original invoice accompanies any claim. The warranty does not cover incorrect installation, improper use, modification, neglect, normal wear and tear, paint, or rust. The warranty is non-transferable.

Essential tools: torque wrench, drill with 1/4" and 1/2" bits, reciprocating saw, level, Loctite Red, T15 Torx driver, and sockets (7MM, 10MM, 11MM, 15MM, 9/16", 3/4").
The fascia, windshield washer fluid reservoir, impact bar, and bumper must be removed. All are reinstalled after baseplate installation except the bottom plastic shroud piece.
Use the torque charts in the manual based on bolt size and grade. For example: 10MM Grade 5 = 31 ft-lbs, 3/8" Grade 5 = 33 ft-lbs, 1/2" Grade 5 = 78 ft-lbs. Always apply Loctite Red to all bolt threads before tightening.
The baseplate is computer tested to your vehicle's GVWR. Exceeding this weight voids the warranty. Check your vehicle owner's manual for towing specifications.
