Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. That agricultural engineering heritage still shows in how the towing products are built, and the company holds patents across weight distribution, fifth wheel and tow bar designs.
Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.
The wider flat towing range covers supplemental braking systems, safety cables and the accessories that make a complete legal setup, along with baseplate wiring and dinghy towing harnesses that pass lighting signals to the towed vehicle without back-feeding its electrical system.
For conventional trailer towing, Blue Ox weight distributing hitches with integrated sway control transfer tongue load onto the tow vehicle's front axle and resist the yaw that crosswinds and passing trucks induce.

Yes, the BX1923 is designed for 1995-99 Dodge/Plymouth Neon models. However, dimensional variations between otherwise identical cars can be considerable, so some filing of holes may be necessary during installation to allow bolts to clear.
No. The BX1923 must be used only with tow bars approved by Automatic Equipment Mfg. Co. Using this baseplate with any other tow bar invalidates the limited warranty. Install the tow bar according to its own instructions.
You will need: a hacksaw blade, a 13/32" drill bit, a drill, 9/16" wrenches, a 15mm wrench, and Loctite Blue. The hacksaw is used to cut vertical ribs in the grill; the drill bit is for the six required holes.
The baseplate includes six 3/8-16 x 1 hex bolts (Grade 5), six 3/8-16 hex nuts, six 3/8 flat washers, six 3/8 lock washers, two 36" Class III baseplate safety cables, and four 3/8 quicklinks. The seventh bolt required for mounting is the existing engine mount bolt, which is reused.
No, you do not remove the engine mount itself. However, there is a cast iron skid bar bolted to the frame through the engine mount. You must remove the bolt holding this skid bar, set the skid bar aside, and reuse that bolt for the baseplate center mount. The skid bar is not replaced.
Yes. Installation requires drilling six 13/32" holes in the front underside of the vehicle. Mark the hole locations with the baseplate in position, remove the baseplate, then drill all six holes.
Some models may require trimming, but not all. The attachment tabs stick through the grill below the license plate. Before trimming, hold the fascia in place to check if trimming is needed. If required, you must remove the vertical ribs in the grill that are spaced approximately 12" left and right of the car's center. A hacksaw blade works well for cutting these ribs.
Start the attachment tabs through the grill first, then lift the back of the baseplate up into position. The center mount on the base tube will align with the engine mount where the skid bar was removed. Start the existing bolt into the engine mount to hold the baseplate in position while you mark and drill the remaining holes.
Yes. Apply Loctite Blue to all bolts before starting them. Start all bolts first, then tighten them completely once they are all started.
Dimensional variations between cars can require minor adjustments. If a bolt does not clear, file the hole slightly to allow it to fit. This is a normal part of installation for some vehicles.
Permanent baseplate safety cables are strongly recommended. They prevent the towed vehicle from breaking loose if the connection between the frame and baseplate fails. The cables must be connected from the baseplate to the vehicle's frame rail or cross member. These cables must be used in addition to, not instead of, legally required safety cables attaching the towed vehicle to the towing vehicle.
Permanent baseplate safety cables must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member of the vehicle's frame. Do not mount the cables against wires, hoses, or brake lines, as improper installation against these components can cause fluid leaks or electrical shorts.
Before each towing trip, inspect all towing equipment for cracked welds, missing or worn parts, and loose bolts. Ensure all bolts are tightened to the recommended specifications and use Loctite Red on all bolts.
