Blue Ox base plates are custom designed for each specific towed vehicle. When you purchase a Blue Ox base plate, it includes all the necessary hardware and instructions for a do-it-yourself installation.

Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. That agricultural engineering heritage still shows in how the towing products are built, and the company holds patents across weight distribution, fifth wheel and tow bar designs.
Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.
The wider flat towing range covers supplemental braking systems, safety cables and the accessories that make a complete legal setup, along with baseplate wiring and dinghy towing harnesses that pass lighting signals to the towed vehicle without back-feeding its electrical system.
For conventional trailer towing, Blue Ox weight distributing hitches with integrated sway control transfer tongue load onto the tow vehicle's front axle and resist the yaw that crosswinds and passing trucks induce.
The company describes its foundation as customer service, designing around what owners actually ask for, and it runs an RV park adjacent to the factory where customers can stay. Sister operations at the same Nebraska site include Automatic grain roller mills and MAD-RAMPS pivoting ramp systems.

Yes, the BX2614 is designed for 2010-12 Ford Fusion models (including Hybrid) and 2011-12 Lincoln MKZ Hybrid models. Before purchasing, verify that the front of your vehicle matches the design shown in the manual. If your vehicle's front fascia looks different, contact Blue Ox Customer Care at (402) 385-3051.
Motorhome mount tow bars are recommended for use with the BX2614. The RangeFinderII, Adventurer, Acclaim, and Ambassador tow bars cannot be used due to the design of the removable tabs. Adapters cannot be used except for the BX8833 and BX88151.
Required tools are: 7MM socket, 10MM socket/wrench, 9/16" socket, 13MM socket, utility knife, flat screwdriver, pliers, large vise grips, tape measure, drill, 1 1/4" hole saw, and 13/32" drill bit. Loctite Red is also required for all bolts.
The front fascia, plastic bumper cover, air baffle, washer reservoir, and bumper guards are removed during installation. These parts are either reinstalled after modification or, in the case of MKZ bumper guards, permanently removed and not reinstalled.
Yes, drilling is required. Using the baseplate as a template, you must drill three 3/8" holes on each side using a 13/32" drill bit, and one larger hole on each side using a 1 1/4" hole saw to accommodate nut plates. The baseplate must be level with respect to the vehicle frame before drilling.
Trimming requirements vary by model. For Fusion: notch the plastic bumper cover corner (go over 1", then up, across and back on both sides), and cut out the first long top rib on the back side of the fascia on both sides. For MKZ: cut bumper guards even with the metal bumper and remove them (they will not be reinstalled), cut out the fog light enclosure on the back side of the fascia, cut an additional piece from the fog light enclosure, and trim the area inside the front fascia as shown. On the driver side, trim the corner of the air baffle up to the rubber.
Blue Ox towing products are intended to be installed by Blue Ox Dealers who are familiar with the products and have the equipment and knowledge necessary for fit work. Blue Ox Dealers can be found at www.blueox.com or by contacting Customer Care at (402) 385-3051. The dimensional variations between vehicles can be considerable, and minor adjustments such as filing holes, bending electrical rods, or bending end plates may be necessary.
The BX8869 Bulb and Socket Wiring Kit is recommended for Ford Fusion models. The BX8848 4-Diode Wiring Kit is recommended for Lincoln MKZ models.
Permanent baseplate safety cables are strongly recommended when towing a vehicle with a tow bar. They prevent the towed vehicle from breaking loose if the connection between the frame and baseplate fails. The cables must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member of the vehicle's frame. They must not be mounted against wires, hoses, or brake lines. The cables should remain installed as long as the baseplate is installed. They are to be used in conjunction with, and not as a replacement for, legally required safety cables attaching the towed vehicle to the towing vehicle.
No. Do not use the towed vehicle for storing luggage, equipment, etc., as this may cause you to exceed the towing capacity of the tow bar, baseplate, and its accessories.
Before each towing trip, inspect all towing equipment for cracked welds, missing or worn parts, and loose bolts. Ensure all bolts are tightened to the recommended torque specifications using Loctite Red. Verify that all electrical connections are plugged in properly and functioning. Check that permanent baseplate safety cables do not rub against any hoses or moving parts.
Yes, remove the attachment tabs when not in use if applicable.
If the baseplate is in an accident, it must be replaced and cannot be reused. An accident can cause unseen damage, and using it again could result in more damage or serious injury. Do not use the baseplate if it is damaged or missing parts.
The attachment tab height is 14-3/4" and the attachment tab width is 19-1/2".
The kit includes: one weldment (BP, BX2614), two 3/8-16 nut plates with 14" wire, six spacer tubes (3/4" X .406" ID X 1"), four 3/8-16 X 2" hex bolts Grade 5, two 3/8-16 X 1 1/2" hex bolts Grade 5, six 3/8" lock washers, four 3/8-16 hex nylon lock nuts, two #12-14 x 1" self-drilling screws, two #10-32 x 1/2" slot round head screws, two #10 lock washers, two #10-32 hex nuts, two 4-way connector adapters, two removable attachment tab assemblies, two 1/4-20 X 3/4" hex bolts Grade 5, two 1/4-20 hex nylon nuts, one breakaway bracket, two 6MM-1.00 X 45MM hex bolts Grade 8.8, two 6MM lock washers, two 1/4" flat washers, two 36" Class III baseplate safety cables, two 3/8" quicklinks, and two black cap plugs.
For Fusion: grab, lift, and pull the fascia straight out. For MKZ: push down on the fascia to release, then using a flat screwdriver, press down on the final clip to release (toward the front by the headlight). For both models, unplug the running lights (fog lights) before removing the fascia.
For Fusion: remove five metric bolts from underneath the front of the fascia using a 7MM socket. For MKZ: remove eight metric bolts from underneath the front of the fascia using a 7MM socket. Additionally, remove two metric bolts from the top of the fascia using a 10MM socket and one push pin from the top of the fascia on both sides.
Using a 13MM socket, remove three metric bolts from the air baffle: two in the front and one in the back. For MKZ only, by the battery, use a flat screwdriver to unhook the clamp to the air baffle and unplug the electrical connection.
On the passenger side, using a 10MM socket, remove three metric bolts from the washer reservoir: one on the right side and two on the left. Disconnect the hoses and electrical connection, and plug the hoses to prevent spillage.
Use 6MM-1 x 45MM hex bolts with 6MM lock washers and 1/4" flat washers. Insert 1" spacers between the washer reservoir and the frame for each hole. Tighten all bolts completely after reconnecting the hoses and electrical.
Passenger side: all holes use 3/8-16 x 2" hex bolts with 1" spacers. The front hole and bottom back hole have 3/8" lock washers with 3/8-16 hex nuts. The top back hole has a 3/8" lock washer and a 3/8-16 nut plate inserted into the drilled hole. Driver side: the front hole uses a 3/8-16 x 2" hex bolt with a 1" spacer, 3/8" lock washer, and 3/8-16 hex nut. The back holes use 3/8-16 x 1 1/2" hex bolts. The bottom back hole has a 3/8" lock washer with 3/8-16 hex nut. The top back hole has a 3/8" lock washer and a 3/8-16 nut plate inserted into the drilled hole. Loctite Red must be used on all bolts.
Attach the permanent baseplate safety cables to the provided convenience link on the baseplate. Secure the cables to a solid piece of the frame of the vehicle. The manual shows recommended installation to the frame rail. Ensure the safety cables do not rub against any hoses or moving parts. Do this on both sides of the vehicle.
The breakaway bracket installation is optional. If installed, position it halfway between the electrical rods and the convenience link of the baseplate, underneath the fascia. Install using a 1/4-20 x 3/4" hex bolt, 1/4-20 hex nylon nut, and a #10-16 x 1" drilling screw.
Yes, the BX2614 is designed for 2010-12 Ford Fusion (including Hybrid) and 2011-12 Lincoln MKZ Hybrid. Verify your vehicle's front fascia matches the design shown in the manual.
Yes. You must drill three 3/8" holes per side using a 13/32" drill bit and one larger hole per side using a 1 1/4" hole saw for nut plates.
Required tools: 7MM, 10MM, 9/16", and 13MM sockets, utility knife, flat screwdriver, pliers, vise grips, tape measure, drill, 1 1/4" hole saw, 13/32" drill bit, and Loctite Red.
Front fascia, plastic bumper cover, air baffle, washer reservoir, and bumper guards are removed. Most are reinstalled after modification; MKZ bumper guards are permanently removed.
Use BX8869 Bulb and Socket Wiring Kit for Ford Fusion, or BX8848 4-Diode Wiring Kit for Lincoln MKZ.
Permanent baseplate safety cables are strongly recommended. They prevent the towed vehicle from breaking loose if the baseplate connection fails and must not be mounted against wires, hoses, or brake lines.
Inspect for cracked welds, missing or worn parts, and loose bolts. Ensure all bolts are tightened to specification using Loctite Red. Verify all electrical connections are plugged in and functioning.
Motorhome mount tow bars are recommended. RangeFinderII, Adventurer, Acclaim, and Ambassador tow bars cannot be used. Only BX8833 and BX88151 adapters are compatible.
Ensure the baseplate is level with respect to the vehicle frame before drilling. The manual notes that dimensional variations between vehicles can be considerable. Minor adjustments may be necessary, which may include filing a hole slightly, bending electrical rods, or bending end plates to compensate for manufacturer tolerances.
Verify that you have completed all required trimming steps for your vehicle model. For Fusion, ensure the first long top rib on the back side of the fascia has been cut out on both sides. For MKZ, ensure the fog light enclosure and additional pieces have been cut out as shown in the manual, and that the area inside the front fascia has been trimmed. If trimming is complete and the fascia still does not fit, minor adjustments to the baseplate or end plates may be necessary.
Reposition the cables so they do not rub against any hoses or moving parts. The manual shows recommended installation to the frame rail. If the recommended mounting location causes interference, secure the cables to a different solid piece of the frame as described in the instructions included with the permanent baseplate safety cables, ensuring they remain clear of all hoses and moving parts.
Before installing the fascia, ensure that all electrical connections are plugged in properly and functioning. Verify that the running lights (fog lights) were properly unplugged before removing the fascia and reconnected after reinstalling it. For MKZ, confirm that the air baffle electrical connection was properly reconnected in Step 16.
