Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. That agricultural engineering heritage still shows in how the towing products are built, and the company holds patents across weight distribution, fifth wheel and tow bar designs.
Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.
The wider flat towing range covers supplemental braking systems, safety cables and the accessories that make a complete legal setup, along with baseplate wiring and dinghy towing harnesses that pass lighting signals to the towed vehicle without back-feeding its electrical system.
For conventional trailer towing, Blue Ox weight distributing hitches with integrated sway control transfer tongue load onto the tow vehicle's front axle and resist the yaw that crosswinds and passing trucks induce.

No. Due to the design of the removable attachment tabs on the BX2323, the RangeFinderII tow bar cannot be used with this baseplate.
Most adapters cannot be used with the BX2323 baseplate due to its removable tab design. Only the BX8833 and BX88151 adapters are compatible.

Yes. The radiator cover must be removed. Remove seven Phillips pushpins from the top of the radiator cover and two metric bolts using a 10mm socket. Set the bolts, pushpins, and cover aside for reinstallation later.
Yes. The fascia must be removed. Remove one metric bolt from the edge of the fascia inside each wheel well using an 8mm socket, remove two pushpins from the bottom corner of the fascia on both sides, remove two pushpins from the tabs on the bottom center of the fascia, pull the upper corners of the fascia to release from the upper tabs, and pull the fascia forward. Set all fasteners and the fascia aside for reinstallation.
Yes. On the passenger's side, disconnect the hose and electrical connection from the washer reservoir, then remove three metric bolts using a 10mm socket and remove the reservoir. Set the bolts and reservoir aside for reinstallation.
Yes. On the driver's side, remove two metric bolts from the air baffle using a 10mm socket and set the bolts and air baffle aside. The air baffle will be reinstalled later.
Yes. Remove one metric bolt from the top section of the metal bumper bracket using a 10mm socket and five metric bolts using a 12mm socket on both sides of the vehicle. Pull the metal bumper bracket forward to remove. Set all bolts and the bracket aside for reinstallation.
Yes. On the driver's side, remove the electrical grounds and remove the metric bolt from the air bag sensor using a 6mm socket. Move the sensor out of the way. The sensor will be reinstalled later.
Yes. Press the clip on the horn cable above the center of the metal bumper to release it. Disconnect the cable from four tie clips along the horn cable between the horn and the air bag sensor on the driver's side. Leave the cable connected to the air bag sensor and move it out of the way.
Yes. Drilling is required. You must drill one 1¼" hole through the frame end into the frame rail on both sides using a hole saw. You must also drill three 13/32" holes into the frame rail on both sides using a 13/32" drill bit. Blue Ox recommends spraying the drilled surfaces with anti-corrosive paint after drilling.
Yes. Trimming is required. Using a reciprocating saw, make a horizontal cut in the radiator support ribbing flush with the bottom of the frame rail and another cut 3½" down. Using pliers, flatten the ribbing area between the cuts and flatten a ½" section of the frame support ribbing where it meets the frame rail on both sides. Additionally, trim necessary openings in the grille for the attachment tabs using a hack saw blade.
Yes. Bend the coolant line brackets upward toward the radiator to make room for baseplate installation. The manual also notes that minor adjustments may include bending electrical rods or bending end plates to compensate for vehicle manufacturing tolerances.
According to the bolt torque chart on page 1, Grade 5 3/8" bolts should be torqued to 33 foot-pounds, and Grade 8 3/8" bolts should be torqued to 47 foot-pounds. The baseplate uses Grade 5 3/8-16 x 1½" hex bolts. Apply Loctite RED to all bolts before tightening.
According to the bolt torque chart on page 1, Grade 8.8 6mm bolts should be torqued to 6 foot-pounds, and Grade 10.9 6mm bolts should be torqued to 8 foot-pounds. The baseplate uses a Grade 8.8 6mm-1.0 x 30mm hex bolt. Apply Loctite RED before tightening.
The attachment tab height is 13½" and the attachment tab width is 24".
The installation sequence is: (1) Remove radiator cover, (2) Remove fascia bolts and pushpins, (3) Remove fascia, (4) Remove air baffle, (5) Remove washer reservoir, (6) Disconnect and move horn cable, (7) Remove electrical grounds, (8) Remove metal bumper bracket, (9) Drill 1¼" holes in frame rails, (10) Bend coolant line brackets and secure with zip ties, (11) Flatten radiator support ribbing, (12) Remove air bag sensor, (13) Align and clamp baseplate, drill 13/32" holes, (14) Install nut plates and bolts on driver's side, (15) Install nut plates and bolts on passenger's side, (16) Reinstall air baffle and air bag sensor, (17) Reinstall metal bumper and horn cable, (18) Reinstall washer reservoir and electrical grounds, (19) Trim grille openings, (20) Reinstall fascia and radiator cover, (21) Install safety cables, (22) Install tow bar and safety cables.
Insert 3/8-16 nut plates through the frame end hole and align them to the drilled holes. Install 3/8-16 x 1½" hex bolts with 3/8" lock washers and tighten. Trim the excess nut plate wire. Do this on both the driver's side and passenger's side.
On the driver's side, reinstall the air baffle's existing bolts to the upper rear and lower middle baseplate holes. Reconnect the horn cable to the air bag sensor. Reinstall the sensor to the top front baseplate hole and insert the sensor pin to the lower front hole. Reconnect the electrical grounds with the 6mm hex bolt and ¼" lock washer.
Reinstall the metal bumper and bracket. Route the horn cable through the side of the metal bumper and out through the backside of the metal bumper, then connect the horn cable.
Attach the permanent baseplate safety cables to the provided convenience link on the baseplate. The cables should be secured to a solid piece of the vehicle frame. Ensure the safety cables do not rub against any hoses or moving parts. Do this on both sides of the vehicle. The cables must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member of the vehicle's frame.
If the baseplate is in an accident, it must be replaced. Do not use it again. An accident can cause unseen damage, and using it again could result in more damage or serious injury. Do not use the baseplate if it is damaged or missing parts.
Permanent baseplate safety cables are strongly recommended when towing a vehicle with a tow bar. They must be used in conjunction with, and are not a replacement for, legally required safety cables attaching the towed vehicle to the towing vehicle. The cables prevent the towed vehicle from breaking loose if the connection between the frame and baseplate fails.
Do not mount the permanent baseplate safety cables against wires, hoses, or brake lines. Ensure the safety cables do not rub against any hoses or moving parts. The cables must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member of the vehicle's frame.
When using power drills, be aware of the dangers of torque and drill bit length.
Loctite RED must be applied to all bolts before tightening to ensure proper fastening and prevent loosening. The manual emphasizes: "BE SURE TO USE LOCTITE® RED ON ALL BOLTS BEFORE TIGHTENING."
Ensure all electrical connections are plugged in properly and functioning before installing the fascia. Verify that the safety cables do not rub against any hoses or moving parts. Confirm that all bolts are tightened to the correct torque specifications with Loctite RED applied.
It is the owner's responsibility to inspect all towing equipment for cracked welds, missing or worn parts, and loose bolts before each towing trip. Be sure to use Loctite Red on all bolts and tighten to the recommended specifications. Use only genuine factory replacement parts on the baseplate. Do not substitute homemade or non-typical parts. If a bolt is lost or needs replacement, use a replacement bolt of the same grade (in most cases Grade 5). Failing to follow these instructions or altering the installation instructions will void the manufacturer's warranty.
The warranty is voided if: (1) you fail to follow the installation instructions, (2) you alter the installation instructions, (3) you substitute homemade or non-typical parts, (4) you use a replacement bolt of a different grade than the original, or (5) you tow behind a non-motorized vehicle.
The BX8869 Bulb and Socket Wiring Kit is recommended for the 2006-11 Hyundai Accent with the BX2323 baseplate. It can be mounted in the location shown in the installation manual.
