Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. That agricultural engineering heritage still shows in how the towing products are built, and the company holds patents across weight distribution, fifth wheel and tow bar designs.
Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.
The wider flat towing range covers supplemental braking systems, safety cables and the accessories that make a complete legal setup, along with baseplate wiring and dinghy towing harnesses that pass lighting signals to the towed vehicle without back-feeding its electrical system.

1. Remove plastic cover and clips from fascia. 2. Release grille. 3. Remove bumper bolts and push pins. 4. Remove belly pan bolts. 5. Remove fascia bolts. 6. Remove washer reservoir bolts and disconnect electrical/water lines. 7. Cut alignment pin from reservoir. 8. Bend brackets up. 9. Drill 1¼" hole next to sensor on both sides. 10. Position baseplate on frame rails. 11. Drill two 13/32" holes on each side using baseplate as template. 12. Insert nut plates and tighten 3/8" bolts with lock washers using Loctite. 13. Reinstall washer reservoir, fascia, and belly pan. 14. Install tow bar and safety cables per their instructions.
Remove three metric bolts from the reservoir using a 10MM socket. Lift the reservoir to release the alignment pin from the top of the frame. Unplug electrical connections and disconnect water lines. Using a hack saw, cut the alignment pin from the bottom of the reservoir tank. After baseplate installation, reinstall the reservoir, ensuring all electrical components and hoses are plugged in properly before installing the fascia.
The manual notes that dimensional variations between otherwise identical vehicles can be considerable. While the baseplate holes were designed for easy installation, it may be necessary to file a hole slightly to allow a bolt to clear.
Be cautious of the coolant line on the passenger's side when drilling the lower hole. Insert the drill bit into a piece of pipe or deep socket while drilling to protect the coolant line from damage.

Yes. The windshield washer reservoir has electrical connections that must be unplugged before removal and plugged back in properly before reinstalling the fascia. The baseplate includes an electrical bracket (part 101-6135) and 4-way connector adapters (part 101-5822) for wiring integration.
Permanent baseplate safety cables are strongly recommended when towing a vehicle with a tow bar. The cables must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member of the vehicle's frame. The BX1958 includes two 36" Class III safety cables (part 226-0046) and two 3/8" quicklinks (part 229-0359). These cables are not a replacement for legally required safety cables attaching the towed vehicle to the towing vehicle.
