Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.
The wider flat towing range covers supplemental braking systems, safety cables and the accessories that make a complete legal setup, along with baseplate wiring and dinghy towing harnesses that pass lighting signals to the towed vehicle without back-feeding its electrical system.
For conventional trailer towing, Blue Ox weight distributing hitches with integrated sway control transfer tongue load onto the tow vehicle's front axle and resist the yaw that crosswinds and passing trucks induce.

The BX3515 has standard attachment tabs centered at 22 3/4". The Ambassador tow bar requires an adapter for attachment tabs not 24" wide. The Adventurer tow bar requires an adapter for attachment tabs less than 24" wide. The Acclaim tow bar will not fold and store without an adapter on vehicles with attachment tabs less than 24" wide. An additional 5/16" hole must be drilled in the attachment tabs to use certain adapters or a RangeFinderII towbar.
Required tools are: 10MM socket, 12MM socket, 3/4" wrench, 3/8" drill bit, 1/2" drill bit, drill, utility knife, and Loctite Red. You will also need a wrench or socket to remove existing vehicle fasteners during disassembly.

Yes. The grill, bumper, and headlights must be removed for baseplate installation. The attachment tabs will extend through the grill opening approximately four inches. After the baseplate is installed and positioned correctly, these components are reinstalled.

Six 3/8" holes must be drilled into the vehicle frame for baseplate installation. Additionally, two existing holes on the frame (one on the driver's side and one on the passenger side) must be drilled out to 3/8" diameter. An additional 5/16" hole must be drilled in the attachment tabs if using certain adapters or a RangeFinderII towbar.
The dimensional variations between otherwise identical vehicles can be considerable. While the baseplate was designed for easy installation, it may be necessary to tailor the baseplate slightly to compensate for auto manufacturer's tolerances. These minor adjustments may include filing a hole slightly, bending electrical rods, and/or bending end plates.
1. Remove grill push pins and grill. 2. Remove headlights (three bolts each). 3. Remove bumper molding push pins and screws, remove bolts in front of tires and on bumper facia bottom, then remove bumper. 4. Remove passenger-side bracket assembly and disconnect wiring. 5. Pull out plastic wire loom clip on passenger side; drill both frame holes to 3/8". 6. Align baseplate front bolt holes with frame holes, insert 3/8" bolts, reposition bumper to check alignment, remove bumper, mark remaining holes, remove baseplate. 7. Drill remaining holes to 3/8", install baseplate with 3/8" hardware and nut plates, tighten all six bolts. 8. Replace bracket, reconnect wiring, replace bumper and grill, replace headlights.
The manual provides a general torque chart for Grade 5 and Grade 8 bolts. For 3/8" Grade 5 bolts, the specification is 33 foot-pounds. For 3/8" Grade 8 bolts, the specification is 47 foot-pounds. The BX3515 uses 3/8"-16 x 1 1/2" Grade 5 hex bolts (part 201-0440). Tighten all six bolts according to the chart in the General Instruction Sheet after all bolts have been started.
The BX8869 Bulb and Socket Wiring Kit is recommended for this vehicle. All electrical connections must be plugged in properly and functioning before installing the fascia.
Permanent baseplate safety cables are strongly recommended when towing a vehicle with a tow bar. The BX3515 kit includes one 36" safety cable (part 226-0046) and four 3/8" quicklinks (part 229-0359). The cables must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member of the vehicle's frame. Do not mount the safety cables against wires, hoses, or brake lines. These cables are to be used in conjunction with, and NOT as a replacement for, legally required safety cables attaching the towed vehicle to the towing vehicle.
It is the owner's responsibility to inspect all towing equipment for cracked welds, missing or worn parts, and loose bolts before each towing trip. Be sure to use Loctite Red on all bolts and tighten to the recommended specifications. It is also the owner's responsibility to hook up all towing equipment per manufacturer's instructions and recommendations.
Before towing, ensure all electrical connections are plugged in properly and functioning. Verify that the baseplate is level and properly positioned. Confirm the towability and pre-towing procedures for your vehicle with the owner's manual or by contacting the vehicle manufacturer. Even though bolts may already be present on the vehicle, do not assume they are adequate for baseplate mounting. If a bolt is lost or needs replacement, use a replacement bolt of the same grade (in most cases Grade 5).
