Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. That agricultural engineering heritage still shows in how the towing products are built, and the company holds patents across weight distribution, fifth wheel and tow bar designs.
Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.
The wider flat towing range covers supplemental braking systems, safety cables and the accessories that make a complete legal setup, along with baseplate wiring and dinghy towing harnesses that pass lighting signals to the towed vehicle without back-feeding its electrical system.
For conventional trailer towing, Blue Ox weight distributing hitches with integrated sway control transfer tongue load onto the tow vehicle's front axle and resist the yaw that crosswinds and passing trucks induce.
The company describes its foundation as customer service, designing around what owners actually ask for, and it runs an RV park adjacent to the factory where customers can stay. Sister operations at the same Nebraska site include Automatic grain roller mills and MAD-RAMPS pivoting ramp systems.

Yes, the BX3517 is designed specifically for the 2002 Suzuki Aerio SX. The baseplate has attachment tabs 20 inches center to center and a height of 12½ inches.
The BX8869 is available for the 2002 Suzuki Aerio SX and is shown mounted on the driver's side tail light assembly. Consult the BX8869 instructions or your dealer for compatibility details.
Required tools are: 10MM socket, 12MM socket, 9/16" socket, Phillips screwdriver, hacksaw, utility knife, vise grips, diagonal cutters, 7/16" drill bit, and Loctite. A power drill is implied for the 7/16" drill bit.
Yes. Installation requires removal of the front fascia, tie down brackets, fog lights, and metal bumper. The tie down brackets will not be reinstalled. No holes need to be drilled in the vehicle frame itself.
Yes. The windshield washer reservoir on the driver's side must be removed (three metric bolts with 10MM socket), and its electrical connection and tubing must be unplugged and capped. It is reinstalled after the baseplate is secured.
Yes. You must drill two upper holes and one lower hole on each side of the vehicle using a 7/16" drill bit. The baseplate is used as a template to mark the hole locations. The manual states 'No holes to drill' in the introduction, which refers to the frame itself; the lower air dam requires cutting and drilling.
Using a hacksaw, make four cuts in the webbing on both sides and bend forward with vise grips. Then use a utility knife to cut a 3½" slot from the marks (9¼" and 9⅝" from the center support on each side) to allow the baseplate to slide into place.
Yes. After reinstalling the metal bumper and air baffle, hold the fascia in place and mark areas that need trimming. Trim using diagonal cutters, then install the fascia and headlight assemblies.
Specific torque values are not provided in this installation manual. The manual directs you to refer to the 'General Instruction Sheet' for torque specifications. Contact your Blue Ox dealer or the manufacturer at 402-385-3051 for the correct torque values.
The upper and lower holes are drilled with a 7/16" drill bit. The baseplate is used as a template to mark the exact locations on both sides of the vehicle.
The attachment tabs are 20 inches center to center and have a height of 12½ inches.
1. Remove fascia, bumper, and washer reservoir. 2. Cut and slot the lower air dam. 3. Position the baseplate and align with existing holes. 4. Drill upper and lower holes using the baseplate as a template. 5. Install frame end items (item 2 or 3) and tighten bolts with Loctite. 6. Reinstall the washer reservoir. 7. Reinstall bumper, air baffle, and fascia, trimming as needed.
Item 2 is a 3/8-16 nut plate (part 61-5208, qty. 2). Item 3 is a weldment 3/8-16 double nut plate (part 61-5843, qty. 2). Item 2 is inserted behind webbing to align with the lower drilled hole. Item 3 is inserted into the frame end to align with the upper drilled holes.
Yes. Loctite must be applied to all bolts before tightening. This is required for items 5 and 6 (the 3/8-16 x 1½ bolts and lock washers) and for items 7 and 8 (the 6MM hex bolts and flat washers) when securing the baseplate and washer reservoir.
First, hand-tighten item 7 (the baseplate) to align with the existing hole on the driver's side reservoir. On the passenger's side, align the existing hole for the air baffle and clamp with vise grips. This holds the baseplate in position before drilling the upper and lower holes.
Dimensional variations between cars may require filing a hole slightly to allow a bolt to clear. Use a file to enlarge the hole as needed to achieve proper alignment.
Do not substitute other devices if the tow bar pin and clip are lost. Obtain replacement pins and clips from your Blue Ox dealer or contact the manufacturer at 402-385-3051.
Use only genuine factory replacement parts. If a bolt is lost or needs replacement, use a replacement bolt of the same grade as the original (usually Grade 5; refer to the parts list). Do not use homemade or nontypical parts. Repair parts may be ordered through your nearest Blue Ox dealer or distributor.
Ensure all electrical connections are plugged in properly, especially the windshield washer reservoir connection. Verify that the fascia and headlight assemblies are fully reinstalled and that all trimmed areas fit correctly. Check that all bolts are tightened with Loctite applied.
