Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. Using a reciprocating saw, four cuts are made to the tie-down support webbing on both sides of the vehicle. The first cut is made on the front of the webbing just above the radiator cross member and back to the first rib. The second cut is made on the webbing bend just above the first cut. The webbing between these cuts is bent toward the radiator. The third and fourth cuts are made further back, and the webbing is bent forward and flat with the tie-down support. These modifications are permanent and necessary for baseplate installation.
The inside webbing of the metal bumper is cut on both sides using a reciprocating saw, and the webbing is bent flat with the bottom of the bumper using vice grips. This is done after the bumper is removed and set upside down on a bench.

The baseplate is slid onto the outside of the tie-down support where webbing was cut. The driver's side of the baseplate is aligned with the existing hole for the front washer reservoir bolt location, and this bolt is installed to hold the baseplate in place. The top middle hole of the baseplate on the passenger's side is aligned with the existing hole in the frame for the air intake tube and clamped in place with a vice grip.
According to the bolt torque specifications table on page 1, a 3/8-inch Grade 5 bolt should be torqued to 33 foot-pounds. However, the manual also references a torque chart on page 3 of the Baseplate Towing General Instructions for the specific final torque values for this installation. Loctite RED must be applied to all bolts before tightening.
