Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. That agricultural engineering heritage still shows in how the towing products are built, and the company holds patents across weight distribution, fifth wheel and tow bar designs.
Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.
The wider flat towing range covers supplemental braking systems, safety cables and the accessories that make a complete legal setup, along with baseplate wiring and dinghy towing harnesses that pass lighting signals to the towed vehicle without back-feeding its electrical system.
For conventional trailer towing, Blue Ox weight distributing hitches with integrated sway control transfer tongue load onto the tow vehicle's front axle and resist the yaw that crosswinds and passing trucks induce.
The company describes its foundation as customer service, designing around what owners actually ask for, and it runs an RV park adjacent to the factory where customers can stay. Sister operations at the same Nebraska site include Automatic grain roller mills and MAD-RAMPS pivoting ramp systems.

Original price was $699.99. Current price is $609.00.Yes, the BX3520 is designed specifically for 2006-08 Suzuki Grand Vitara models. However, dimensional variations between otherwise identical vehicles can be considerable, and minor adjustments may be necessary to compensate for manufacturer tolerances. These may include filing a hole slightly, bending electrical rods, and/or bending end plates.
No. Due to the design of the removable tabs on the BX3520, the RangeFinder II tow bar cannot be used with this baseplate.
Most adapters cannot be used with the BX3520 baseplate. Only the BX8833 and BX88151 adapters are compatible.
Yes. The front fascia, upper grille, and metal bumper must be removed during baseplate installation and then reinstalled after installation is complete. These components are removed to access the frame rail for drilling and to allow proper alignment of the baseplate.
Yes. Drilling is required. Using a 13/32" drill bit, you must drill three holes into the frame rail on each side of the vehicle (six holes total). Additionally, a 1 1/4" hole saw is used to cut a hole in the front of the frame rail on each side to create an opening for the nut plate.
Yes. Trimming of the lower grille is necessary. Using a diagonal cutter, you must trim necessary openings in the grille for the attachment tabs, convenience links, and electrical rods.
Required tools are: 15MM socket, 10MM socket, 9/16" socket, 13/32" drill bit, 1 1/4" hole saw, diagonal cutter, Phillips screwdriver, vise grip, and Loctite RED.
The kit includes: one baseplate weldment (61-6196), four 3/8-16 nut plates with 14" wire (61-5208), four 3/8-16 x 1 1/2" Grade 5 hex bolts (201-0440), six 3/8" lock washers (203-0010), two 3/8-16 x 1" Grade 5 hex bolts (201-0443), two 3/8-16 hex nuts (202-0003), two #12-14 x 1" self-drilling screws (201-0979), two #10-32 x 1/2" slot round head screws (201-0192), two #10 lock washers (203-0054), two #10-32 hex nuts (202-0047), two 4-way connector adapters (101-5822), two attachment assemblies (62-3469), two 36" Class III baseplate safety cables (226-0046), two 3/8" quicklinks (229-0359), and two cap plugs (290-0437).
No. The BX8869 Bulb and Socket Wiring Kit is recommended for this vehicle but is not included in the baseplate kit and must be ordered separately.
The removal sequence is: (1) Remove four pushpins from behind the grille; (2) Remove four pushpins from the top of the grille and lift grille up and forward to release from clips; (3) Remove three Phillips screws from inside the wheel well on each side; (4) Remove one metric bolt just below the last Phillips screw on each side; (5) Remove three Phillips screws from the bottom of the fascia (two forward of front tires on each side, one in center); (6) Remove six pushpins and two metric bolts from the bottom of the fascia; (7) Remove two metric bolts from the fascia between headlights, pull fascia forward, and disconnect fog lights and temperature sensor; (8) Pull forward on plastic pieces clipped to the metal bumper on both sides; (9) Remove four metric bolts from the metal bumper on both sides; (10) Pull bumper forward and remove wire clips with a pushpin puller. Set all removed parts aside for reinstallation.
Align the baseplate so that it is flush with the bottom and front edge of the frame rail. Clamp the baseplate in place with large vise grips on both sides of the vehicle. Using the baseplate as a template, drill three holes into the frame rail with a 13/32" drill bit on each side. Using a 1 1/4" hole saw, cut a hole in the front of the frame rail on each side to open up an area for the nut plate.
For 3/8-16 Grade 5 bolts, the torque specification is 33 foot-pounds. For 3/8-16 Grade 8 bolts, the torque specification is 47 foot-pounds. All bolts must have Loctite RED applied before tightening.
The attachment tab height is 21 1/2" and the attachment tab width is 24".
If the baseplate is in an accident, it must be replaced and not reused. An accident can cause unseen damage, and using it again could result in more damage or serious injury. Do not use the baseplate if it is damaged or missing parts.
Be sure that ALL electrical connections are plugged in properly and functioning BEFORE installing the fascia. This ensures that fog lights, temperature sensor, and any other electrical components are working correctly before the fascia is reinstalled.
No. Use only genuine factory replacement parts on your baseplate. Do not substitute homemade or non-typical parts. If a bolt is lost or needs replacement, use a replacement bolt of the same grade (in most cases Grade 5). Replacement parts may be ordered through your nearest Blue Ox dealer or distributor, or by calling the 24/7 Customer Care Team at (402) 385-3051 or toll free (888) 425-5382.
