Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.
The wider flat towing range covers supplemental braking systems, safety cables and the accessories that make a complete legal setup, along with baseplate wiring and dinghy towing harnesses that pass lighting signals to the towed vehicle without back-feeding its electrical system.
For conventional trailer towing, Blue Ox weight distributing hitches with integrated sway control transfer tongue load onto the tow vehicle's front axle and resist the yaw that crosswinds and passing trucks induce.

Yes. The fascia and bumper must be removed for baseplate installation and then reinstalled after the baseplate is mounted. All removed components should be placed on a flat, sturdy surface and will be reinstalled unless otherwise noted.
Yes. Drilling and trimming are required. You will drill six holes through the frame using a 13/32" drill bit (three on each side). You will also need to trim the plastic splash guard and, for WRX/Outback models, make a notch in the frame using a reciprocating saw.
Using a reciprocating saw, you must make a notch down 6-1/2" from the top of the frame and flush with the outside of the frame on both sides of the vehicle. This is required for both WRX/Outback and Impreza/Crosstrek models.
Yes. Using a utility knife, cut the plastic splash guard flush with the existing hole approximately 3/4" deep and 3-1/4" long on both sides of the vehicle. For Impreza/Crosstrek models, cut the splash guard flush as shown in the instructions.
1/2"-13 Grade 5 bolts should be torqued to 78 foot-pounds.
3/8"-16 Grade 5 bolts should be torqued to 33 foot-pounds.
1/4"-20 Grade 5 bolts should be torqued to 10 foot-pounds.
For WRX/Outback: (1) Remove fascia by removing push pins and screws; (2) Remove sensor screw on driver side; (3) Remove four bumper bolts on each side; (4) Make a 6-1/2" notch in the frame on both sides using a reciprocating saw; (5) Slide baseplate onto vehicle, align existing frame hole, install 1/2"-13 x 1-1/4" bolt with washers and nut, level baseplate, fully tighten; (6) Drill six remaining holes (three per side) using 13/32" drill bit; (7) Remove nut from inside frame using flat chisel; (8) Ream out sensor bracket hole; (9) Install 3/8"-16 x 1-1/4" bolts in top two holes with sensor bracket on lower bolt, and 3/8"-16 x 2" bolt with spacer tube in bottom hole; (10) Reinstall bumper and trim splash guard; (11) Reinstall fascia and electrical connections.

Yes. You must use a sufficient amount of Loctite Red on all bolt threads before tightening. Tighten all bolts according to the torque chart provided.
After installing the 1/2"-13 x 1-1/4" bolt into the existing frame hole on both sides, level the baseplate before fully tightening the 1/2" hardware. The baseplate must be level before drilling the remaining six holes.
The spacer tube is installed between the baseplate and frame in the bottom 13/32" hole on each side. A 3/8"-16 x 2" bolt is inserted through the spacer tube. Two spacer tubes are included in the kit.
The sensor bracket attaches to the lower of the two top 3/8"-16 x 1-1/4" bolts on each side of the baseplate. For WRX/Outback models, the existing sensor bracket hole must be reamed out with a 13/32" drill bit. For Impreza/Crosstrek models, the sensor bracket hole is reamed out and the sensor is reattached when installing the 3/8" baseplate bolts.
The horn bracket bolt must be removed (12MM socket) and the electrical lines disconnected. The horn must be reoriented for baseplate clearance. Loosen the bolt on the backside of the bracket, position the arm as shown in the instructions, retighten the bolt, and reinstall the horn bracket with electrical connections.
Yes. For 2014 models only, you must remove the push pin from the filler neck, remove three screws from the washer reservoir (10MM socket), disconnect and plug all lines, and set the reservoir aside. The reservoir is reinstalled later, and the front arm is reattached to the baseplate using supplied 1/4" hardware.
Yes. For 2014 models only, drop the front of the belly pan down by removing two screws (12MM socket) from underneath and two push pins from the sides, then unsnap the front lip from the brackets. Remove the belly pan bracket screw (10MM socket) on both sides. The belly pan is reinstalled after baseplate installation.
Yes. For 2014 models only, on the driver side, remove four bolts from the frame extension (14MM socket: two in back and two in front) and set the extension aside. Remove the wire loom from the frame behind the extension. The frame extension is reinstalled after baseplate installation.
For 2014 models, the bottom outside bumper bolts will need to be shortened to clear the baseplate. Use the supplied 1/4" hardware to reinstall these bolts.
Hold the fascia as close to its original position as possible, mark and trim the fascia around the convenience links and attachment tabs. Then reinstall the fascia and reconnect all electrical connections.
Attach the permanent baseplate safety cables to the provided convenience link on the baseplate. The cables should be secured to a solid piece of the vehicle frame. The photo in the instructions shows the recommended installation. Secure the cables on both sides of the vehicle. Ensure the safety cables do not rub against any hoses or moving parts. Do not mount the cables against wires, hoses, or brake lines.
No, the breakaway bracket installation is optional. If you choose to install it, use the supplied 1/4" hardware and install the bracket in your desired location on the vehicle.
The baseplate is computer tested to your vehicle's GVWR. Exceeding this weight will void the manufacturer's warranty. Reference your vehicle owner's manual for the manufacturer's towing specifications.
If the baseplate is in an accident, it must be replaced. Do not use it again. An accident can cause unseen damage, and using it again could result in more damage or serious injury. Do not use the baseplate if it is damaged or missing parts.
Permanent baseplate safety cables are strongly recommended when towing a vehicle with a tow bar. The cables prevent the towed vehicle from breaking loose if the connection between the frame and baseplate fails or becomes disconnected. The cables must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member of the vehicle's frame. Two cables are included with the baseplate kit.
No. Permanent baseplate safety cables are to be used in conjunction with, and NOT as a replacement for, legally required safety cables attaching the towed vehicle to the towing vehicle.
It is the owner's responsibility to inspect all towing equipment for cracked welds, missing or worn parts, and loose bolts before each towing trip. Be sure to use Loctite Red on all bolts and tighten to the recommended specifications.

Be sure that all electrical connections are plugged in and accessories are functioning properly before reinstalling the fascia.
