Blue Ox is known internationally for recreational and commercial towing products, manufacturing in Pender, Nebraska since 1925. The line covers tow bars and vehicle-specific baseplates for flat towing behind a motorhome, sway control and weight distributing hitches, supplemental braking accessories and towing wiring, backed by patented designs and long-standing customer service.
Blue Ox has manufactured since 1925 and is recognised internationally for towing products and customer service. The company operates from Pender, Nebraska, where it grew out of Automatic Manufacturing Co., a business that started with cattle oilers and developed into agricultural equipment, tractor accessories and trailer towing hardware. That agricultural engineering heritage still shows in how the towing products are built, and the company holds patents across weight distribution, fifth wheel and tow bar designs.
Flat towing is the discipline Blue Ox is best known for. Towing a car with all four wheels on the ground behind a motorhome demands a system that stays rigid under braking, articulates properly over uneven ground, and connects to the towed vehicle at points strong enough to take the load. Blue Ox tow bars handle the first two, with self-aligning arms that latch under tension and release without a struggle when the load is off them. Vehicle-specific baseplates handle the third, engineered per make and model to tie into structural mounting points behind the fascia.
The wider flat towing range covers supplemental braking systems, safety cables and the accessories that make a complete legal setup, along with baseplate wiring and dinghy towing harnesses that pass lighting signals to the towed vehicle without back-feeding its electrical system.
For conventional trailer towing, Blue Ox weight distributing hitches with integrated sway control transfer tongue load onto the tow vehicle's front axle and resist the yaw that crosswinds and passing trucks induce.
The company describes its foundation as customer service, designing around what owners actually ask for, and it runs an RV park adjacent to the factory where customers can stay. Sister operations at the same Nebraska site include Automatic grain roller mills and MAD-RAMPS pivoting ramp systems.

Yes, the BX3792 baseplate is designed for 2015-2016 Toyota Highlander vehicles. The attachment tab height is 18" and width is 24". Before purchasing, verify your vehicle year and model match these specifications, and consult your vehicle owner's manual for manufacturer's towing specifications.
The BX3792 is a towing baseplate manufactured by Blue Ox for 2015-2016 Toyota Highlander vehicles. It provides attachment points for a tow bar system and includes permanent safety cables to prevent the towed vehicle from breaking loose if the baseplate connection fails. The baseplate is rated to your vehicle's GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating).
Required tools include: large vise grip, flat screwdriver, utility knife, torque wrench, drill, tape measure, 3/8" drill bit, 1-1/4" hole saw, 10MM socket, 14MM socket, 7/16" socket, 7/16" wrench, and 9/16" socket. You will also need Loctite Red to apply to all bolt threads before tightening.
The following components must be removed and reinstalled after baseplate installation: fascia cover (7 push pins), fascia (9 push pins and 8 screws), windshield washer fluid reservoir (3 screws), bumper (6 bolts via 14MM socket), and plastic intake (2 screws via 10MM socket). The styrofoam reinforcement must also be removed. Place all removed items on a flat, sturdy surface during installation.
Yes, drilling is required. You must drill a 1-1/4" access hole on both sides of the vehicle for nut plate access, and a 3/8" hole through the frame on both sides for the middle baseplate bolt. Additional 3/8" holes must be drilled for the remaining two bolts on each side. When drilling, be aware of the dangers of torque and drill bit length, and ensure the baseplate remains level throughout the drilling process.
Yes, trimming is required. You must trim the inner plastic shielding flush with the bottom of the frame on both sides of the vehicle. Additionally, you must trim the plastic intake around the baseplate before reinstalling it. Finally, you must mark and trim the fascia around the convenience links and attachment tabs before reinstalling it.
Yes. Blue Ox towing products are intended to be installed by Blue Ox Dealers who are familiar with the products and have the equipment and knowledge necessary to do "fit work." Blue Ox Dealers can be found at www.blueox.com or by contacting Blue Ox Customer Care at (402) 385-3051. The manual notes that dimensional variations between otherwise identical vehicles can be considerable, and it may be necessary to tailor the baseplate slightly to compensate for vehicle manufacturer's tolerances.
Torque specifications depend on bolt grade and size. For Grade 5 bolts: 3/8" = 33 ft-lbs, 1/2" = 78 ft-lbs. For Grade 8 bolts: 3/8" = 47 ft-lbs, 1/2" = 119 ft-lbs. For metric Grade 8.8 bolts: 6MM = 6 ft-lbs, 8MM = 16 ft-lbs, 10MM = 31 ft-lbs. All bolts must have Loctite Red applied to threads before tightening. Use a torque wrench and tighten to the appropriate specification for the bolt grade and size.
The kit includes: 4 nut plates with 14" wire (61-5208), 1 baseplate (61-7527), 2 attachment tab assemblies (62-3468), 1 breakaway bracket (102-7134), 1 hex head bolt 1/4"-20 x 3/4" Grade 5, 2 round slotted head screws #10-32 1/2", 4 hex head bolts 3/8"-16 x 1-1/4" Grade 5, 2 hex head bolts 3/8"-16 x 1" Grade 5, 1 self-drilling screw #10-16 x 1", 1 hex head bolt 6MM-1.0 x 30MM Grade 8.8, 2 self-drilling screws #12-14 x 1", 2 hex nuts #10-32, 2 hex nylon insert lock nuts 3/8"-16, 1 hex nylon nut 1/4"-20, 1 flat washer 1/4", 4 lock washers 3/8", 2 lock washers #10, 1 electrical bracket, 2 class IV safety cables, 2 quicklinks 1/2", and 2 black cap plug receivers.
If the baseplate is in an accident, it must be replaced and cannot be reused. Do not use the baseplate if it is damaged or missing parts. An accident can cause unseen damage, and using a damaged baseplate could result in more damage or serious injury. Using a damaged baseplate will also void the manufacturer's warranty.
The baseplate is computer tested to your vehicle's GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating). Exceeding this weight will void the manufacturer's warranty. You must consult your vehicle owner's manual for the manufacturer's towing specifications and ensure you do not exceed your vehicle's GVWR when towing.
The BX8848 4-Diode Wiring Kit is recommended for this vehicle. Before reinstalling the fascia, ensure that all electrical connections are plugged in and accessories are functioning properly.
Attach the permanent baseplate safety cables to the provided convenience link on the baseplate. The cables must be connected from the baseplate to the frame rail or cross member of the vehicle's frame. Do not mount the cables against wires, hoses, or brake lines. Secure the cables to a solid piece of the frame. Install the cables on both sides of the vehicle. These cables are strongly recommended and should remain installed as long as the baseplate is installed. They work in conjunction with, and are not a replacement for, legally required safety cables attaching the towed vehicle to the towing vehicle.
The optional breakaway bracket can be attached to the bottom side of the bumper using the supplied self-tapping screw. The breakaway is then attached to the bracket using the supplied 1/4" hardware. This is an optional feature and installation location is at your discretion.
Before each towing trip, inspect all towing equipment for cracked welds, missing or worn parts, and loose bolts. Ensure all bolts are tightened to the recommended torque specifications using Loctite Red. It is your responsibility as the owner to perform these inspections to ensure safe towing.

Additionally, warranty coverage is valid only if the customer warranty card is returned within 30 days of purchase.
Blue Ox provides a three-year limited warranty from the date of delivery to the original retail purchaser. The warranty covers defects in material and workmanship under normal use and service. Warranty is valid only if the customer warranty card is returned within 30 days of purchase and a copy of the original invoice accompanies any claim. The warranty does not cover incorrect or improper installation, improper use, modification, neglect, failure to maintain, misuse, accident, normal wear and tear, paint or rust. The warranty is non-transferable. Register your warranty at http://blueox.com/warranty/
Handling of cosmetic parts when installing this product may require the use of protective covers, rags, and specialty tools to prevent damage. Take care to protect the fascia cover, fascia, bumper, and plastic intake from scratches and damage during removal and reinstallation.
Yes, use a good quality paint to spray cut edges of the frame to prevent rusting. This protects the frame from corrosion after drilling.
No. Even though existing holes and bolts may be present on the vehicle, do not assume they are adequate for baseplate mounting. Always use the hardware supplied in the hardware kit and existing hardware as specified in the installation instructions. Using incorrect hardware can compromise the safety and integrity of the baseplate installation.
If a bolt is lost or needs replacement, use a replacement bolt of the same grade as the original. In most cases, this will be Grade 5. Consult the parts list to identify the correct bolt grade. Replacement parts may be ordered through your nearest Blue Ox Dealer or Distributor. Using the correct grade bolt is essential for safety and preservation of the baseplate.
1. Position the baseplate onto the frame, aligning the top holes to existing holes. Level and clamp the baseplate. 2. Drill a 1-1/4" access hole on both sides for nut plate access. 3. Drill the middle hole with a 3/8" drill bit through the frame and install 3/8" hardware on both sides. Ensure the baseplate remains level and fully tighten. 4. Continue drilling the remaining two holes in the baseplate through the frame and install 3/8" hardware. Fully tighten all hardware. Apply Loctite Red to all bolt threads before tightening and use appropriate torque specifications.
After the baseplate is fully installed and tightened, trim the plastic intake around the baseplate and reinstall it to the vehicle. Reinstall the bumper and washer reservoir. Then hold the fascia as close to its original position, mark and trim the fascia around the convenience links and attachment tabs. Finally, reinstall the fascia and fascia cover.
