A CURT trailer hitch is the key to pursuing your passions, whether you're taking the family boat out for an afternoon on the water or packing up the mountain bikes for a day on the trails. This CURT class 2 hitch is perfect for towing a small trailer, such as a boat trailer, lightweight camper or utility trailer. It can also be used to mount a hitch cargo carrier or bike rack (never exceed the lowest-rated towing component). Like all CURT custom hitches, this class 2 trailer hitch is made for a vehicle-specific fit. It is engineered to seamlessly integrate with select years of the Ford Edge (see application info to verify fitment). It is rated for 3,500 pounds gross trailer weight and 350 pounds tongue weight. It is also equipped with 1-1/4" x 1-1/4" hitch receiver to accept the included ball mount. The ball mount that comes with this hitch kit has a 3/4" trailer ball hole and can be positioned in the drop or rise orientation for level towing with your specific trailer (trailer ball not included). Like all CURT custom receiver hitches, this class 2 hitch is designed, manufactured, finished and tested with the utmost care. It is engineered for a precise fit, easy installation, maximum towing strength and an integrated look on the vehicle. It is also tested to SAE J684 protocols for safety. This class 2 trailer hitch is finished with our industry-leading dual-coat process for unparalleled rust, chip and UV resistance. It is descaled for a smooth surface, submersed in liquid A-coat for rust prevention inside and out, covered with a highly durable powder coat, and finally co-cured for a dependable shield against the elements. This class 2 hitch comes with a ball mount, hitch pin and mounting hardware for a complete installation.

Yes, the CURT 12140 is compatible with Ford Edge Sport models. Sport models require additional steps to remove exhaust bezels using a 5.5mm socket and T20 Torx bit during installation.
The CURT 12140 is designed for use with ball mount #45521. Euro mount options are available: #45571 (1 7/8" ball) and #45572 (2" ball).
The kit includes: (4) CM-SP4 spacers (.250 x 1.50 x 3.00" square hole), (4) carriage bolts (1/2-13 x 1 1/2, Grade 8), (4) hex flange nuts (HFN 1213, Grade 8), and (4) 1/2" fishwires.
Yes, you must support and lower the exhaust by removing (2) rubber isolators mounted to the muffler before installation. The exhaust is raised back into position and the isolators reinstalled after the hitch is mounted.
Remove the (2) panels from behind the rear wheels by removing (2) hex nuts using a 10mm socket and (2) screws with a 7/32" socket. These panels are set aside and reinstalled after the hitch is mounted.
Yes, trimming is required. Trim 3/8" off the center underbody panel outer tabs to allow easier mounting of the hitch. The removed underbody side panels must also be trimmed as shown in the diagram to allow for reinstallation. The washer/nut may require trimming of the washer for reinstallation.
Fishwiring is a technique using the supplied 1/2" fishwires to thread spacers and carriage bolts into the frame mounting holes before the hitch is raised into position. The fishwires guide the fasteners through the holes, then are removed and replaced with hex flange nuts once the hitch is positioned.
Thread (2) CM-SP4 spacers and (2) 1/2" carriage bolts into the mounting holes using the fishwires for both frame rails. Then raise the hitch over the exhaust, thread the fishwires into the mounting holes, raise the hitch into position, remove the fishwires, and install the (4) supplied 1/2" hex flange nuts.
The hitch side plates are located between the center underbody panel tabs and the frame rails.
Periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure all fasteners are tight and all structural components are sound. This maintenance is critical for safe operation.
Safety glasses must be worn at all times while installing this product.
Professional installation time is approximately 60 minutes. Novice (DIY) installation time is approximately 120 minutes.
The hitch requires the exhaust to be lowered during installation by removing rubber isolators from the muffler. The exhaust is then raised back into position after the hitch is mounted. No permanent modification to the exhaust is required.
On vehicles equipped with a hands-free lift gate, perform the kick motion on the left or right side of the receiver tube after installation.
Yes, the underbody panels are reinstalled using the hardware (hex nuts and screws) removed in step 1. However, the washer/nut may require trimming of the washer for reinstallation.
