They are compatible with virtually all CURT 5th wheel trailer hitches and many competitors. Installation of CURT universal 5th wheel base rails is quick and simple. They mount with high-strength hardware, providing a solid mounting place for a new 5th wheel hitch. 5th wheel base rail bolts and other hardware can also be purchased separately to aid in reinstalling used rails. To protect our 5th wheel base rails from corrosion, scratches and UV damage, we coat each one in a co-cured finish of A-coat and powder coat. This gives them the tough skin they need for hauling that RV trailer, flatbed or other heavy-duty trailer and gives you the confidence to tow wherever the horizon leads. The CURT 16150 is a mounting rail kit designed to secure a 5th wheel hitch to a truck bed. It consists of two mounting rails, front and rear brackets, spacers, and fasteners that attach to the truck frame rails. The kit is designed for use with a 5th wheel hitch assembly (not included) and is compatible with select Dodge, Toyota, Chevrolet, GMC, and Ford trucks from 1973 to 2006.

Yes, the CURT 16150 can be installed on short bed trucks, but with important restrictions. On short bed models, there must be at least 52 inches between the hitch and the cab to prevent the trailer from damaging the cab on tight turns. If this clearance cannot be achieved, a 5th wheel roller (such as CURT model 16560) is required so the hitch can be moved rearward before making a tight turn. Always physically verify clearance before towing for the first time.
No. The CURT 16150 is a mounting rail kit only. It provides the rails and brackets to attach a 5th wheel hitch to the truck bed and frame. You must purchase a 5th wheel hitch assembly separately. The mounting rails are designed to accept the legs of a 5th wheel hitch, which are secured with rail hitch pins and clips supplied with the 5th wheel hitch.

You must drill a total of 12 holes: four 5/8 inch diameter holes through the truck bed for the main mounting rail attachment points, and eight 17/32 inch diameter holes through the frame rails (two per bracket, four brackets total) for the wheel bolt attachments. Frame rail holes must be drilled 17/32 inch diameter. This is critical: if holes are too small, the bolt may break; if too large, it will not grip properly. All 5/8 inch fasteners (carriage bolts) must be torqued to 150 lb-ft. This applies to the mounting rail attachment to the brackets. If these bolts are loosened during installation (Step 11) to adjust the mounting rails, they must be re-torqued to 150 lb-ft after adjustment (Step 12).

The kit includes three types of spacers: CM-16150-SP1 (0.75 x 1.75 inch, qty 4), CM-16150-SP2 (0.313 inch, qty 4), and CM-SP50 (0.250 x 1.00 x 1.50 inch round hole, qty 1). The kit includes two straight 'L' brackets (CM-16150-FB) and two angle brackets (one driver side CM-16150-DSRB, one passenger side CM-16150-PSRB). Use angle brackets at locations where frame obstructions will not allow straight brackets to be positioned. If the frame rail is clear of obstructions, angle brackets may be placed at any location. Vehicle-specific guidance on pages 3–5 specifies which bracket type to use at front and rear attachment points for your truck model.
On 1999–2001 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra applications, the forward driver side bracket attachment requires a modified procedure. Drill a 5/8 inch diameter hole in the frame rail at the lower bracket attachment point. Place one 1/2 inch wheel bolt in the 1/4 inch spacer (CM-SP50), then place this bolt assembly into the frame rail so the threaded end protrudes out through the frame rail. Bolt the bracket in place at this location. The remaining bolts are installed as normal.
Some 1997–04 Ford F-150 and F-250 installations (except HD F-250 and 2004 F-150 new body) may position the mounting rails so that attachment holes are drilled down through the front under bed support and the truck frame rail. On these applications, a tube spacer must be purchased separately. The angle brackets from the kit are used at the rear locations. The rear mounting rail should be located 26-3/4 inches from the rear edge of the bed.
Yes. If the truck is equipped with overload springs, the spring bracket on the side of the frame rail must be temporarily removed. Holes in the frame rail and spring brackets must be enlarged to accept 1/2 inch bolts. Use straight brackets on the front mounting rail and angled brackets at the rear. The rear spring bracket attachment points will require 3/8 inch thick spacers and longer 1/2 inch bolts, which are not supplied in the kit and must be purchased separately.
Before towing the first time, you must: (1) verify adequate turning clearance between the truck cab/box corners and trailer using the cab clearance calculation sheet on page 6; (2) verify truck bed clearance at various angles and maneuvering positions; and (3) verify all hardware is torqued to the proper specification (5/8 inch fasteners to 150 lb-ft, 1/2 inch fasteners to 75 lb-ft). Use the clearance calculation formula on page 6: [(A) - (C)] - D = X, where A is the distance from cab to 5th wheel coupler, C is the king pin overhang or extension (positive if under the trailer, negative if extending past), and D is half the trailer width. If X is positive, the trailer will not interfere with the cab. If X is negative, interference will occur. If a roller is used, the formula is [(A+B) - (C)] - D = X, where B is the additional roller travel (typically 12 inches for CURT rollers). Always physically verify clearances before towing.

Your truck's towing capacity is determined by the vehicle manufacturer and must be observed. Before towing every time, you must: (1) ensure all fasteners are tight and all structural components are sound—do not tow with worn or damaged parts; (2) ensure the trailer weight does not exceed any part of your towing system, with load heavier towards the front of the trailer and not exceeding hitch tongue weight; (3) ensure trailer load is secured to prevent shifting and centered left to right—never load the trailer heavier behind the trailer axle(s); (4) check tires to ensure they are inflated to proper specification per vehicle and trailer recommendations; and (5) verify trailer lights, electric brakes, and breakaway switches are working properly.
