While many weight distribution hitches are made to be compatible with a sway control attachment, the CURT TruTrack is an advanced WD system that integrates the sway control function into the design of the hitch. It combines precise weight distributing with passive sway control to deliver a smoother, safer ride. The TruTrack 2P features a unique spring bar attachment system. Like all WD hitches, it uses a pair of spring bars to leverage the trailer tongue weight and spread it across all axles of the vehicle-trailer combination. The CURT 17599 is designed for tow vehicles with a receiver tube. Check your vehicle's owner manual or the receiver installation documentation to confirm you have a receiver tube installed. The hitch also requires a level tow vehicle and trailer on level pavement for proper measurement and assembly. For specific vehicle compatibility, contact CURT Product Support at 877-287-8634.
You will need a ratchet, socket set, torque wrench, and tape measure. Proper tools will improve installation quality and reduce time required.
Without spring bars: 8,000 lbs. gross trailer weight (GTW) and 800 lbs. tongue weight (TW). With spring bars: 5,000–8,000 lbs. GTW and 500–800 lbs. TW. The tongue weight rating of spring bars represents the capacity of a pair of bars, not an individual bar. Never exceed the vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity.
The manual does not specify whether the receiver tube must be removed. The adjustable shank (#4) is inserted into the receiver tube and secured with a hitch pin and clip. For clarification on whether removal is necessary, contact CURT Product Support at 877-287-8634.
Torque the ball to 450 ft-lbs. Secure it to the head assembly using a lock washer and nut.
Yes. The manual states that for vehicles with air springs, air shocks, or automatic leveling systems only, you must check the vehicle's owner manual and deflate these systems to their minimum recommended pressure before assembling and adjusting the hitch. If your vehicle does not have these systems, proceed with normal installation.
Before towing, check: hitch pin and clip (securing shank to receiver), head to shank fasteners, trailer ball nut, coupler latch, spring bar support brackets, safety chains, lights and turn signals, and braking system (including breakaway switch).

The hitch ball is 2-5/16" in diameter.
For passenger cars, add 1/8" to the trailer coupler height for each 100 lbs. of tongue weight. This target height accounts for vehicle squat when the trailer is coupled. Measure the front and rear bumper heights to pavement as reference points, then measure the trailer coupler height from pavement to the top of the coupler socket. Use these measurements to set the ball height at the nearest bolt hole alignment position on the shank.
Yes. The shank may be inverted to obtain proper ball height on high ground clearance vehicles. If the shank is used in the inverted position, you must check for adequate ground clearance to ensure the shank does not contact the ground or other obstacles.
Apply heavy grease to the round end of each spring bar. Push the end up into the head socket until you hear a click, which indicates the spring bar is locked into place. To release a spring bar, lift up slightly on the spring bar and gently pull out the retaining pin in the hitch head; the spring bar will drop free.
Using the trailer tongue jack, lower the coupler onto the trailer ball and close the coupler latch. Do not retract the jack fully; allow it to support some of the tongue weight. Then raise the front of the trailer and back of the tow vehicle approximately 3" with the tongue jack or until the rear bumper is back to the initial measured height. This makes it easier to install the spring bars onto the support brackets.
Mark the position of the support brackets by making a center line on the trailer A-frame a minimum of 4" in from the end of the spring bars. The wide channel bracket should be installed over the narrow channel bracket.
Slide the L-support bracket between the two captive support brackets. Place it in the highest position possible while still allowing clearance under the trailer frame. Install the second carriage bolt in the first hole directly below the trailer A-frame.
Pull the spring bar out from the A-frame and hook the lift bar into the L-bracket. Then pry the spring bar onto the L-bracket by rotating the lift bar to vertical. With the spring bar supported by the L-bracket, remove the lift handle and secure the spring bar by installing the retainer clip and cotter pin.
Torque the trailer ball to 450 ft-lbs. Torque all 3/4" bolts and lock nuts to 200 ft-lbs. Torque the set screw to 50 ft-lbs. Tighten the nylock nuts on the support brackets to 25 lb-ft. Failure to tighten hardware may result in fastener loss or failure.
After the spring bars are secured, lower the jack to apply load to the hitch. The vehicle should settle evenly. Remeasure the front and rear bumper reference points. If the front has settled much more than the rear, adjust the set screws until the vehicle and trailer are level. The spring bars should be nearly horizontal when correct height is achieved. Use set screws (#13 and #14) to adjust the angle of the head as required until desired loading is reached.
The loaded ball height should never be greater than the uncoupled ball height. If it is, front wheel overload and loss of rear wheel traction can result, leading to unstable handling, reduced braking ability, and a tendency to jackknife when turning and braking at the same time. If the loaded trailer ball height is greater than the uncoupled height, reduce take-up on the spring bar, remeasure, and adjust until the proper height is obtained.
Keep clear of the pivot path of all moving parts when there is tension on the spring bar. Maintain control of the lift handle at all times when raising or lowering the spring bar. Be sure that the locking clip and cotter pin are in place once the spring bar is in position.
Keep the socket-mounted ends of the spring bars and the lock pins in the head assembly free from dirt and well lubricated. Excessive wear in this area may indicate an overload or inadequate lubrication. Keep the head assembly exterior clean and do not allow dirt or stones to lodge between the spring bars and the head. Keep hitch parts painted to prevent rust and maintain good appearance; do not paint over labels. Keep lift brackets clean and lubricated to ensure ease of operation. Perform periodic inspection to ensure all hardware and components remain secure.
Remove the weight from the spring bars by using the trailer jack to lift the front of the trailer and rear of the tow vehicle. With the tension removed from the spring bars, carefully remove the cotter pin and retainer clip. With the spring bar retainer clip removed, use the lift bar as a lever to pry the spring bar off the L-bracket.

Slide the head up or down to the nearest bolt hole alignment position which corresponds with the target ball height determined earlier. Mark the position on the shank. Then install the head on the shank at the marked position.
After installing the head on the shank, rotate the head forward as far as it will go. The ball should be vertical or tilted slightly back. If it is not, adjust the set screws. This ensures proper coupling with the trailer coupler.
Insert the adjustable shank (#4) into the receiver tube on the tow vehicle and secure it with the hitch pin and clip (#6). The shank may be inverted if needed for proper ball height on high ground clearance vehicles, but you must check for adequate ground clearance if using the inverted position.
The head is attached to the shank using two 3/4"-10 × 5" hex bolts (#10), each with a 3/4" serrated conical washer (#11) on both sides of the bolt, and 3/4"-10 nylock nuts (#12). Insert the bolts through the lower hole and upper slotted hole in the head channel. Start the nylock nuts and finger tighten only initially; they are tightened to 200 ft-lbs. during final assembly.
Initially, tighten the top 3/4"-10 × 5" hex bolt just enough to hold the head tight against the pin in the head channel. This bolt will be tightened later. After the spring bars are secured and the vehicle height is adjusted to the desired loading, tighten all 3/4" bolts and lock nuts to 200 ft-lbs. and the set screw to 50 ft-lbs.

This condition can cause front wheel overload, loss of rear wheel traction, unstable handling, reduced braking ability, and a tendency to jackknife when turning and braking. To correct it, reduce take-up on the spring bar, remeasure the ball height, and adjust until the proper height is obtained. The loaded ball height must never exceed the uncoupled ball height.

Verify that the socket and spring bar end are clean and properly lubricated.
