A CURT front trailer hitch allows you to use the front end of your vehicle for a variety of towing applications. They can be used for mounting a winch, a snow plow, a number of towing accessories and can even be used for some trailering applications. When space is limited, a front trailer hitch is commonly used to hold a cargo carrier, freeing up space inside the vehicle for extra cargo and making the rear mount receiver available to pull a trailer. At the boat ramp, your boat trailer can be hitched up to the front receiver hitch, giving you better control over the trailer as you launch. Some of the other accessories that can be used with a front tow hitch are the CURT winch mount, step pad, license plate holder, spare tire mount, skid shield and tow hooks. All CURT front trailer hitches provide a useful receiver tube to accept a 2" x 2" shank, and they are commonly used on trucks, vans and SUVs. This front trailer hitch is rated for 5,000 lbs. GTW and 500 lbs. TW. It also has a straight-line pull rating of 9,000 lbs. It is designed to be a custom trailer hitch for certain years of the Chevy Suburban, Chevy Tahoe, GMC Yukon and GMC Yukon XL (to verify your vehicle compatibility, see application info). It comes with all necessary hardware for a complete installation and is backed by a limited lifetime warranty.

Yes, CURT part number 31073 is designed for 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon SUVs. Before purchasing, confirm your vehicle matches this year and model. The manual notes that fascia trimming or removal may be required (excluding LT models), so fitment may vary by trim level.
Yes, CURT part number 31073 is designed for 2015 GMC Yukon and Chevrolet Tahoe SUVs. Fascia trimming or removal may be required (excluding LT models), so fitment may vary by trim level.
The CURT 31073 is rated for 5,000 lbs trailer weight and 500 lbs tongue weight when used as a weight-carrying hitch. When used as a straight-line pull (winching), the maximum line pull is 9,000 lbs. However, you must never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity, which may be lower than the hitch rating.
The hitch weight is 90 lbs.
Required tools are: ratchet, 3/4" socket, socket extension, torque wrench, power drill with 17/32" drill bit, center punch, aviation shears, and safety glasses. A torque wrench is essential because fasteners must be torqued to a specific value (110 ft-lbs) for proper installation.
The kit includes: 6 × CM-SP6 spacers (0.250 × 1.00 × 3.00" square hole), 6 × 1/2-13 UNC carriage bolts (1-3/4" grade 8 zinc-plated), 6 × 1/2-13 UNC serrated flange nuts (grade 8 zinc-plated), and 2 × 1/2" fishwire.
Two people may be required to ease installation. The manual recommends reading all instructions thoroughly before beginning and notes that using proper tools will greatly improve installation quality and reduce time required.
Professional installation time is approximately 90 minutes. Novice (DIY) installation time is approximately 36 to 45 minutes, depending on experience level and whether fascia trimming is required.
Yes, drilling is required. You must drill 4 holes (17/32" diameter) in the frame rails—2 holes on each side. Use a center punch or marker to mark the holes using the hitch as a template before drilling. The hitch is lowered to drill the marked holes.
Fascia trimming may be required, depending on your vehicle's trim level. The manual states trimming may be required (excluding LT models). To determine if trimming is needed, raise the hitch into position and check for proper fit before trimming. If trimming is needed, mark and trim the lower fascia according to the trim detail diagram (1.50 in × 3.00 in), or remove the lower fascia and return it to the owner. Dimensions are approximate; confirm fit prior to trimming.
All 1/2" fasteners (the 1/2-13 carriage bolts and flange nuts) must be torqued to 110 ft-lbs using a 3/4" socket. This is the final step after raising the hitch into position and securing the nuts.
Fishwire is a technique to route fasteners through the frame rails using the included 1/2" fishwire. Step 5: Fishwire 4 carriage bolts and spacers through the drilled holes in the frame rails. Step 6: Reverse fishwire 2 carriage bolts and spacers into the access holes on the hitch. This allows fasteners to be positioned before the hitch is fully raised. Detailed fishwire and reverse fishwire diagrams are provided in the manual.
1. Determine if fascia trimming is required by raising the hitch and checking fit. 2. Raise hitch into position, aligning access holes with forward-most holes. 3. Mark 2 drill holes in each frame rail using the hitch as a template and a center punch. 4. Lower hitch and drill the 4 marked 17/32" holes. 5. Fishwire 4 carriage bolts and spacers through the drilled holes. 6. Reverse fishwire 2 carriage bolts and spacers into the access holes. 7. Raise hitch into position and secure with flange nuts, being careful not to push hardware inside the frame rail. 8. Torque all 1/2" fasteners to 110 ft-lbs.
You must never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity. While the CURT 31073 is rated for 5,000 lbs trailer weight and 500 lbs tongue weight, your vehicle's manufacturer may specify a lower limit. Consult your vehicle's owner's manual or specification plate to determine the maximum safe towing capacity for your specific 2015 Tahoe or Yukon.
Use only OEM tow hooks, recovery eyes, or a clevis mount for attachment of a tow strap or winch cable. Never use a ball and/or ball mount as an anchor point—severe personal injury or death could result. Observe winch manufacturer's recommendations. When using a snatch block, attach the return cable to the tow hook or recovery eye, not to the winch mount. Winch cable must not exceed 15 degrees up or down from horizontal, or 45 degrees left or right from straight ahead. Exceeding these angles may overload the winch, winch mount, and/or receiver.
After installation, ensure all fasteners are tight and all structural components are sound. The manual recommends periodically checking the receiver hitch to ensure that all fasteners remain tight and that all structural components are sound during the life of the product.
The manual recommends periodically checking the receiver hitch to ensure that all fasteners are tight and that all structural components are sound. No specific inspection interval is provided; however, regular checks are important for safe operation, especially before towing.
