A CURT front trailer hitch allows you to use the front end of your vehicle for a variety of towing applications. They can be used for mounting a winch, a snow plow, a number of towing accessories and can even be used for some trailering applications. When space is limited, a front trailer hitch is commonly used to hold a cargo carrier, freeing up space inside the vehicle for extra cargo and making the rear mount receiver available to pull a trailer. At the boat ramp, your boat trailer can be hitched up to the front receiver hitch, giving you better control over the trailer as you launch. Some of the other accessories that can be used with a front tow hitch are the CURT winch mount, step pad, license plate holder, spare tire mount, skid shield and tow hooks. All CURT front trailer hitches provide a useful receiver tube to accept a 2" x 2" shank, and they are commonly used on trucks, vans and SUVs. This front trailer hitch is rated for 5,000 lbs. GTW and 500 lbs. TW. It also has a straight-line pull rating of 9,000 lbs. It is designed to be a custom trailer hitch for certain years of the Chevy C1500 Suburban, C2500, C2500 Suburban or C3500 and GMC C1500 Suburban, C2500, C2500 Suburban or C3500 (to verify your vehicle compatibility, see application info). It comes with all necessary hardware for a complete installation and is backed by a limited lifetime warranty.

Part number 31043 is designed for 1988-2000 Chevy/GMC Pickup and Suburban 2500 & 3500 Series with 2WD only. It will not fit 4WD models. Confirm your vehicle year, series, and drivetrain before purchasing.
No. Part number 31043 is designed for 2WD models only. It is not compatible with 4WD Chevy/GMC Pickup or Suburban vehicles.
When used as a weight-carrying hitch, the gross load capacity for trailer weight and tongue weight are not specified in the manual. When used as a straight-line pull (recovery), the maximum line pull is 9,000 lbs. You must not exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity. Consult your vehicle's owner manual for the specific limit.
You will need: a ratchet, 3/4" socket, torque wrench, drill, and 17/32" drill bit. A drill is required only if the large slot in the frame is not already present on your vehicle.
The kit includes: 6 × 1/2"-13 UNC Grade 8 carriage bolts, 1-3/4" long (part 10-10272); 4 × 1/2"-13 UNC Grade 8 carriage bolts, 2-1/4" long (part 10-10304); 6 × 1/2"-13 UNC Grade 8 flange nuts (part 20-00062); 6 × 0.250 × 1.00 × 2.00" square hole spacers (part CM-SP12); and 2 × 1/2" fishwire (part 1_2 FISHWIRE).
If present, remove the lower fascia under the bumper and any vehicle tow hooks. These are conditional steps—not all vehicles have these components. After installation, you may optionally trim and reinstall the fascia.
Drilling may be required. If the large slot in the frame is not already present on your vehicle, you must drill a 17/32" hole using the hitch as a template. You will also need to drill holes on both sides of the frame if the vehicle tow hooks are present and you plan to reinstall them.
No. Fascia trimming is optional. If the lower fascia under the bumper is present and you remove it in step 1, you may trim and reinstall it after the hitch is mounted if you desire.
All 1/2" hardware must be torqued to 110 ft-lbs. This includes both the 1/2"-13 × 1-3/4" and 1/2"-13 × 2-1/4" carriage bolts and the 1/2" flange nuts.
No. If vehicle tow hooks are present, you must reinstall them using the 1/2"-13 × 2-1/4" carriage bolt instead of the 1/2"-13 × 1-3/4" bolt shown in the standard installation.
Periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure that all fasteners are tight and that all structural components are sound. No specific retorque interval is provided in the manual.
The GAWR is the maximum weight your vehicle's front axle can safely carry. Do not exceed your vehicle's front axle GAWR. Find this rating in your owner's manual or on the specification plate on the driver's door frame. Measure gross front axle weight by placing the front wheels of your loaded vehicle on a scale. Exceeding GAWR may overload the front axle and suspension, resulting in accident, property damage, and personal injury.
No. Never use a ball mount as an anchor point for a tow strap or winch cable. Use only OEM tow hooks, recovery eyes, or a clevis mount for attachment. Using a ball mount could result in severe personal injury or death.
For maximum line pull rating, the winch cable must not exceed 15 degrees up or down from horizontal, and must not exceed 45 degrees left or right from straight ahead. Exceeding these angles may overload the winch, winch mount, and front-mounted receiver.
Attach the return cable to the tow hook or recovery eye, not to the winch mount. Attaching it to the winch mount may overload the winch mount and/or front-mounted receiver.
Do not obstruct vehicle lights or the grille opening. Allow free air flow into the grille. If the license plate is obstructed by the hitch, reposition it. Do not obstruct the driver's view.
Rear wheel traction may be reduced, which could affect handling. Reduce speed and drive with caution. The hitch extends the front of the vehicle, which may reduce approach angle, so use caution when parking and maneuvering.
1988-2000 Chevy/GMC Pickup and Suburban 2500 & 3500 Series, 2WD only. Not compatible with 4WD models.
