A CURT front trailer hitch allows you to use the front end of your vehicle for a variety of towing applications. They can be used for mounting a winch, a snow plow, a number of towing accessories and can even be used for some trailering applications. When space is limited, a front trailer hitch is commonly used to hold a cargo carrier, freeing up space inside the vehicle for extra cargo and making the rear mount receiver available to pull a trailer. At the boat ramp, your boat trailer can be hitched up to the front receiver hitch, giving you better control over the trailer as you launch. Some of the other accessories that can be used with a front tow hitch are the CURT winch mount, step pad, license plate holder, spare tire mount, skid shield and tow hooks. All CURT front trailer hitches provide a useful receiver tube to accept a 2" x 2" shank, and they are commonly used on trucks, vans and SUVs. This front trailer hitch is rated for 5,000 lbs. GTW and 500 lbs. TW. It also has a straight-line pull rating of 9,000 lbs. It is designed to be a custom trailer hitch for certain years of the Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon (to verify your vehicle compatibility, see application info). Part 31221 fits Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon models, with one exclusion: it does not fit Z71 models equipped with a front stabilizer bar. Confirm your vehicle does not have a front stabilizer bar before purchasing.

Lower fascia trimming is required only on 2010 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon models. For 2010 models, you must mark and trim the lower fascia or remove it and return it to the owner. The trim detail shows approximately 3.00 inches removed from the bottom and 0.50 inches from the side. Confirm fit prior to trimming. For model years other than 2010, no fascia work is needed.
The parts list includes: 1 piece of 1/2" fishwire, 2 bolts (1/2"-13 UNC, 1-3/4", Grade 8, part 10-10272), 2 square hole spacers 0.250 x 1.25 x 2.00" (part CM-SP3), 2 serrated flange nuts 1/2"-13 UNC Grade 8 (part 20-00062), 2 hex head cap screws 3/4"-10 UNC, 4" long, Grade 8 (part 10-10547), and 2 serrated flange nuts 3/4"-10 UNC Grade 8 (part 20-00106).
1) On 2010 models only, mark and trim the lower fascia or remove it. 2) Thread the 1/2" fishwire carriage bolts and spacers through the existing hole in the side of the frame rail and out the existing hole in the bottom of the frame rail. 3) Lift the hitch into position over the 1/2" bolts and secure with flange nuts. 4) Install the 3/4" bolts through the hitch and frame and secure with flange nuts. 5) Torque all 1/2" fasteners to 110 lb-ft and all 3/4" fasteners to 227 lb-ft.

The front axle Gross Weight Rating (GAWR) is the maximum weight the front axle can safely carry. Do not exceed your vehicle's GAWR. Consult your owner's manual or the specification plate on the driver's door frame. Measure gross front axle weight by placing the front wheels of your loaded vehicle on a scale. Exceeding GAWR may overload the front axle and/or suspension, which could result in accident, property damage and personal injury.
No. Never use a ball and/or ball mount as an anchor point for a tow strap or winch cable. Severe personal injury or death could result. Use only OEM tow hooks, recovery eyes, or a clevis mount for attachment of a tow strap or winch cable.
For maximum line pull rating, the winch cable must not exceed a 15-degree angle up or down from horizontal, and must not exceed a 45-degree angle left or right from straight ahead. Exceeding these angles may overload the winch, winch mount, and/or front-mounted receiver.
Attach the return cable to the tow hook or recovery eye when using a snatch block. Do not attach the return cable to the winch mount, as this may overload the winch mount and/or front-mounted receiver.
Reposition the front-mounted license plate if it becomes obstructed by the hitch. Do not obstruct vehicle lights. Allow free air flow into the grille opening. Do not obstruct the driver's view.
Rear wheel traction may be reduced, which could affect handling. Reduce speed and drive with caution. The hitch extends the front of the vehicle, which may reduce approach angle. Use caution when parking and maneuvering.
Periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure that all fasteners are tight and that all structural components are sound.
