A CURT front trailer hitch allows you to use the front end of your vehicle for a variety of towing applications. They can be used for mounting a winch, a snow plow, a number of towing accessories and can even be used for some trailering applications. When space is limited, a front trailer hitch is commonly used to hold a cargo carrier, freeing up space inside the vehicle for extra cargo and making the rear mount receiver available to pull a trailer. At the boat ramp, your boat trailer can be hitched up to the front receiver hitch, giving you better control over the trailer as you launch. Some of the other accessories that can be used with a front tow hitch are the CURT winch mount, step pad, license plate holder, spare tire mount, skid shield and tow hooks. All CURT front trailer hitches provide a useful receiver tube to accept a 2" x 2" shank, and they are commonly used on trucks, vans and SUVs. This front trailer hitch is rated for 5,000 lbs. GTW and 500 lbs. TW. It also has a straight-line pull rating of 9,000 lbs. It is designed to be a custom trailer hitch for certain years of the Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon (to verify your vehicle compatibility, see application info). Yes, trimming the skid plate is optional. If you choose to trim it, remove 1/2" from the edge and you may replace it later. The skid plate should be removed before installation begins.

All 7/16" fasteners (carriage bolts and nuts) must be torqued to 69 ft-lbs. This is the final torque value applied after all fasteners are loosely installed and the hitch is properly aligned.
1. Determine if fascia trimming is required by raising the hitch into position; trim or remove lower fascia if needed. 2. Remove the skid plate (optionally trim 1/2" from edge). 3. Raise hitch into position aligning mounting holes with upper holes on both sides. 4. Fishwire two 7/16" carriage bolts and spacers through access holes; loosely install nuts. 5. Rotate hitch to align frame cross member holes with front mounting tab slots. 6. Install remaining two 7/16" carriage bolts and spacers; loosely install nuts. 7. Ensure hitch is aligned to trimmed fascia; adjust as needed. 8. Torque all 7/16" fasteners to 69 ft-lbs. 9. Optionally replace trimmed skid plate.
Fishwire is a flexible wire tool used to guide fasteners through tight spaces. In step 4, you use fishwire to thread two 7/16" carriage bolts and spacers into position through the access holes in the vehicle frame before installing the nuts.

The front axle GAWR is the maximum weight the front axle and suspension can safely carry. Do not exceed your vehicle's GAWR when using front-mounted accessories like this hitch. Consult your vehicle's owner manual or the specification plate on the driver's door frame to find your GAWR. Measure gross front axle weight by placing the front wheels of your loaded vehicle on a scale. Exceeding GAWR may overload the front axle and suspension, which could result in accident, property damage, and personal injury.
No. Never use a ball mount as an anchor point for a tow strap or winch cable. This could result in severe personal injury or death. Instead, use OEM tow hooks or recovery eyes for attachment of a tow strap or winch cable.
For maximum line pull rating, the winch cable must not exceed 15 degrees angle up or down from horizontal, and must not exceed 45 degrees angle left or right from straight ahead. Exceeding these angles may overload the winch, winch mount, and/or front-mounted receiver.
Attach the return cable to a tow hook or recovery eye, not to the winch mount. Attaching the return cable to the winch mount may overload the winch mount and/or front-mounted receiver.
