A CURT front trailer hitch allows you to use the front end of your vehicle for a variety of towing applications. They can be used for mounting a winch, a snow plow, a number of towing accessories and can even be used for some trailering applications. When space is limited, a front trailer hitch is commonly used to hold a cargo carrier, freeing up space inside the vehicle for extra cargo and making the rear mount receiver available to pull a trailer. At the boat ramp, your boat trailer can be hitched up to the front receiver hitch, giving you better control over the trailer as you launch. Some of the other accessories that can be used with a front tow hitch are the CURT winch mount, step pad, license plate holder, spare tire mount, skid shield and tow hooks. All CURT front trailer hitches provide a useful receiver tube to accept a 2" x 2" shank, and they are commonly used on trucks, vans and SUVs. This front trailer hitch is rated for 5,000 lbs. GTW and 500 lbs. TW. It also has a straight-line pull rating of 9,000 lbs. It is designed to be a custom trailer hitch for certain years of the Chevy Silverado 2500 HD, 3500 HD or Suburban 3500 HD and GMC Sierra 2500 HD or 3500 HD (to verify your vehicle compatibility, see application info). It comes with all necessary hardware for a complete installation and is backed by a limited lifetime warranty.

Yes, CURT part number 31071 is designed for both Chevrolet and GMC 2500/3500 pickups from 2015 to current.
The CURT 31071 has a gross load capacity of 9,000 lbs max when used as a straight line pull. However, you must never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity, which may be lower. Check your vehicle's owner manual or specification plate on the driver's door frame for the actual limit.
The manual lists a tongue weight of 500 lbs for this hitch. However, you must not exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity.
The hitch weight is 40 lbs.
You will need an 18mm socket, a 3/4" socket, a universal joint socket, a torque wrench, and safety glasses. A ratchet is also required for part removal.
The kit includes: 2 serrated flange nuts (1/2-13 UNC, Grade 8), 2 square hole spacers (0.250 x 1.00 x 3.00 inches), 2 carriage bolts (1/2-13 UNC, 1-1/2 inch, Grade 8), and 2 pieces of 1/2" fishwire.
No, drilling is not required. The hitch uses existing tow hook mounting points and fishwiring to secure the carriage bolts through the frame.
Two people may be required to ease installation. The manual recommends reading all instructions thoroughly before beginning and suggests contacting an authorized CURT installer if you are hesitant to undertake the task on your own.
Professional installation takes approximately 40 minutes. Novice (DIY) installation takes approximately 50 minutes.
Fishwiring is a technique used to thread the carriage bolts and spacers into position through the frame without pulling them completely through. The 1/2" fishwire is routed through either the side of the frame, the end of frame, or the opening in the bottom of the frame. The fishwire ends are then threaded into the vertical side plate slots of the hitch, and the fishwires are pulled to hold the bolts in place while the hitch is positioned. Once the hitch is in position, the fishwires are removed.
You must remove one bolt from the bottom of each tow hook (using an 18mm socket) to allow the hitch to be positioned. Loosening the remaining tow-hook mounting bolt may also be required. These removed bolts are retained and reinstalled in step 4, where they capture the hitch as well.
1. Remove one bolt from each tow hook using an 18mm socket; loosen the remaining tow-hook bolt if needed. 2. Fishwire the carriage bolts and spacers through the frame (side, end, or bottom opening). 3. Thread fishwire ends into the hitch's vertical side plate slots, raise the hitch by sliding tabs over the frame and rotating bent flanges into the bumper cavity. 4. Pull fishwires to hold bolts, remove fishwires, loosely install the hex flange nuts, and reinstall the tow hook bolts (capturing the hitch). 5. Torque all 1/2" fasteners to 110 lb-ft and all 12mm fasteners to 92 lb-ft.
All 1/2" fasteners must be torqued to 110 lb-ft.
All 12mm fasteners must be torqued to 92 lb-ft.
You must not exceed your vehicle's front axle Gross Weight Rating (GAWR). Consult your owner's manual or the specification plate located on your driver's door frame. Measure gross front axle weight by placing the front wheels of your loaded vehicle on a scale. Exceeding GAWR may overload the front axle and/or suspension, which could result in accident, property damage, and personal injury.
No. Never use a ball and/or ball mount as an anchor point for a tow strap or winch cable. Severe personal injury or death could result. Use OEM tow hooks, recovery eyes, or a clevis mount instead.
For maximum line pull rating, winch cable must not exceed 15 degrees angle up or down from horizontal, and must not exceed 45 degrees angle left or right from straight ahead. Exceeding these angles may overload the winch, winch mount, and/or front mounted receiver.
Attach the return cable to the tow hook or recovery eye when using a snatch block. Do not attach the return cable to the winch mount, as this may overload the winch mount and/or front mounted receiver.
Reposition your front mounted license plate if obstructed by the hitch. Do not obstruct vehicle lights. Ensure the hitch allows free air flow into the grille opening and does not obstruct the driver's view.
Rear wheel traction may be reduced, which could affect handling. Reduce speed and drive with caution. The hitch extends the front of the vehicle, which may reduce approach angle. Use caution when parking and maneuvering.
Periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure all fasteners are tight and all structural components are sound. This is an ongoing maintenance requirement, not just a one-time post-installation check.
You should periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure all fasteners are tight and all structural components are sound. The manual does not specify an exact interval, but regular inspection before towing is recommended.
