A CURT front trailer hitch allows you to use the front end of your vehicle for a variety of towing applications. They can be used for mounting a winch, a snow plow, a number of towing accessories and can even be used for some trailering applications. When space is limited, a front trailer hitch is commonly used to hold a cargo carrier, freeing up space inside the vehicle for extra cargo and making the rear mount receiver available to pull a trailer. At the boat ramp, your boat trailer can be hitched up to the front receiver hitch, giving you better control over the trailer as you launch. Some of the other accessories that can be used with a front tow hitch are the CURT winch mount, step pad, license plate holder, spare tire mount, skid shield and tow hooks. All CURT front trailer hitches provide a useful receiver tube to accept a 2" x 2" shank, and they are commonly used on trucks, vans and SUVs. This front trailer hitch is rated for 5,000 lbs. GTW and 500 lbs. TW. It also has a straight-line pull rating of 9,000 lbs. It is designed to be a custom trailer hitch for certain years of the Ford F250 Super Duty and F350 Super Duty (to verify your vehicle compatibility, see application info). It comes with all necessary hardware for a complete installation and is backed by a limited lifetime warranty.

The hitch has a gross load capacity of 9,000 lbs maximum when used as a straight line pull. However, you must never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity, which may be lower. Consult your vehicle's owner manual or specification plate on the driver's door frame for your truck's specific towing limits.
The manual indicates a tongue weight of 500 lbs. However, you must not exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity. Consult your vehicle's owner manual for complete towing specifications.
No drilling is required. The hitch uses existing bolt plates and holes on the frame rails of your Ford Super Duty. The installation notes explicitly state 'NO DRILLING REQUIRED.'
Required tools are: socket wrench, 3/4" socket, 18mm socket, torque wrench, rotary tool with cutoff wheel, marker, tape measure, and safety glasses. The manual also lists fishwire as a required item for routing hardware through frame rails.
Two people may be required to ease installation. The manual notes that using proper tools will greatly improve the quality of the install and reduce the time required. If you are hesitant to undertake this task on your own, contact an authorized CURT installer for additional assistance.
1. Remove the two existing fascia brackets and bolt plates from the front of the frame rails, and return brackets to vehicle owner. 2. Fishwire the two original bolt plates through the ends of frame rails and out the original holes on the outside. Raise the CM-31018-SP side plates into position and secure with four hex nuts. 3. Fishwire 1/2-13 x 1 1/2" carriage bolts and CM-SP10 spacers through the front of frame rails and out round holes in the side plates. Secure with hex flange nuts. 4. Choose lowered or raised position for center section. 5a. For lowered position: raise center section between side plates and install carriage bolts, secure with hex flange nuts. 5b. For raised position: mark fascia where receiver tube will protrude, trim with rotary tool, then install center section. 6. Torque all 1/2" hardware to 110 lb-ft and M12 hardware to 86 lb-ft.
Fascia trimming is required only if you install the hitch in the raised position. If installed in the lowered position, the hitch will extend below the plastic front fascia and no trimming is needed. In raised position, use a rotary tool with cutoff wheel to carefully cut the plastic fascia around where the receiver tube protrudes. The receiver tube in raised position will be approximately 5" higher than in lowered position.
Torque all 1/2-13" hardware to 110 lb-ft. Torque all M12-1.75 hardware to 86 lb-ft. Use a torque wrench to ensure proper tightness.
The kit includes: 16 hex flange nuts (HFN 1213), 16 carriage bolts (1/2-13 x 1 1/2"), 8 square hole spacers (CM-SP10, .250 x 1.00 x 2.50"), 4 pieces of 1/2" fishwire, and 2 side plates (CM-31018-SP, .313"). If existing bolt plates are not present on your vehicle, use the additionally supplied fasteners.
The hitch weight is 43 lbs.
Professional installers typically complete installation in 30-60 minutes. Novice DIY installers should allow 60-120 minutes. These times assume you have proper tools and are familiar with basic installation procedures. The manual notes that if you are hesitant to undertake this task, contact an authorized CURT installer for assistance.
Safety glasses should be worn at all times while installing this product. Before you begin installation, read all instructions thoroughly. Using proper tools will greatly improve the quality of the install and reduce the time required.
You must not exceed your vehicle's front axle Gross Weight Rating (GAWR). Consult your vehicle's owner manual or the specification plate located on the driver's door frame. Measure gross front axle weight by placing the front wheels of your loaded vehicle on a scale. Exceeding GAWR may overload the front axle and/or suspension, which could result in accident, property damage, and personal injury.
The hitch can be used for recovery and winching, but you must follow these rules: Use only OEM tow hooks, recovery eyes, or a clevis mount for attachment of a tow strap or winch cable. Never use a ball or ball mount as an anchor point—severe personal injury or death could result. Observe the winch manufacturer's recommendations, cautions, and warnings. When using a snatch block, attach the return cable to the tow hook or recovery eye, not to the winch mount. The winch cable must not exceed 15 degrees up or down from horizontal, or 45 degrees left or right from straight ahead. Exceeding these angles may overload the winch, winch mount, and/or front mounted receiver.
Periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure that all fasteners are tight and that all structural components are sound. This is an ongoing maintenance requirement, not just a one-time post-installation check.

When using the hitch with front-mounted accessories: do not obstruct vehicle lights; allow free air flow into the grille opening; reposition the front-mounted license plate if obstructed; rear wheel traction may be reduced, which could affect handling—reduce speed and drive with caution; accessories extend the front of the vehicle, which may reduce approach angle—use caution when parking and maneuvering; do not obstruct the driver's view.
