A CURT front trailer hitch allows you to use the front end of your vehicle for a variety of towing applications. They can be used for mounting a winch, a snow plow, a number of towing accessories and can even be used for some trailering applications. When space is limited, a front trailer hitch is commonly used to hold a cargo carrier, freeing up space inside the vehicle for extra cargo and making the rear mount receiver available to pull a trailer. At the boat ramp, your boat trailer can be hitched up to the front receiver hitch, giving you better control over the trailer as you launch. Some of the other accessories that can be used with a front tow hitch are the CURT winch mount, step pad, license plate holder, spare tire mount, skid shield and tow hooks. All CURT front trailer hitches provide a useful receiver tube to accept a 2" x 2" shank, and they are commonly used on trucks, vans and SUVs. This front trailer hitch is rated for 5,000 lbs. GTW and 500 lbs. TW. It also has a straight-line pull rating of 9,000 lbs. It is designed to be a custom trailer hitch for certain years of the Ford F250 Super Duty, F350 Super Duty and F450 Super Duty (to verify your vehicle compatibility, see application info). It comes with all necessary hardware for a complete installation and is backed by a limited lifetime warranty.

The CURT 2" Front Receiver Hitch, Select Ford F-250, F-350, F-450 Super Duty Trailer Hitch (Part #BKDK31078) Drilling is not required for installation. Typical installation time is 30-60 minutes. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
Yes, the CURT 31078 is designed for Ford Super Duty trucks from 2017 to current model years. Before purchasing, verify your truck year matches this range and confirm it is a Super Duty model.
When used as a weight-carrying hitch, the CURT 31078 has a gross load capacity of 5,000 lbs trailer weight and 500 lbs tongue weight. When used as a straight-line pull (winching), the maximum line pull is 9,000 lbs. However, you must never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity.
You will need: ratchet, 3/4" socket, 18mm socket, torque wrench, rotary tool, masking tape, and tape measure. Safety glasses must be worn at all times during installation.
The kit includes: 6× carriage bolts (1/2-13 UNC, 1-3/4", Grade 8, part 10-10272), 6× square hole spacers (0.250 × 1.00 × 2.50", part CM-SP10), 6× serrated flange nuts (1/2-13 UNC, Grade 8, part 20-00062), and 6× pieces of 1/2" fishwire. If existing bolt plates are not present on your vehicle, the supplied fasteners and spacers are used instead.
Two people may be required to ease installation. The manual recommends having a second person available, though it does not state this is absolutely mandatory.
Professional installation takes approximately 30 minutes. Novice (DIY) installation takes approximately 60 minutes.
No drilling is required. The hitch uses existing holes in the frame rails. However, fascia trimming is required: you must cut a marked trim area on the fascia using a rotary tool. The trim dimensions are approximate (approximately 3.5" and 4" based on the diagram) and may be modified for an ideal fit.
Yes. Using an 18mm socket and ratchet, remove the driver and passenger side fascia brackets and return them to the owner. The existing bolt plates will fall out in front of the frame rails. Save the nuts for installation later. If oil cooler lines are present, remove them by unclipping the attachment from the frame rail.
1. Remove driver and passenger side fascia brackets using 18mm socket and ratchet; save nuts. Temporarily move electrical harness off frame rail. If oil cooler lines are present, unclip them. 2. Fishwire the two bolt plates removed in Step 1 through original holes inside frame rails. If bolt plates are not present, use supplied carriage bolts and spacers instead. 3. Mark and cut the trim area on the fascia using a rotary tool. 4. Raise side plates into position and loosely secure hex flange nuts. Fishwire supplied carriage bolts and spacers through frame rails and loosely secure nuts. 5. Torque all 1/2" hardware to 110 ft-lbs and all M12-1.75 to 86 ft-lbs. Reconnect electrical harness and cooler lines if present.
If bolt plates are not present, use the additionally supplied fasteners: fishwire the 1/2-13 × 1-3/4" carriage bolts (part 10-10272) and CM-SP10 spacers through the holes on the inside of the frame rails. Secure them with the supplied 1/2-13 hex flange nuts (part 20-00062).
Temporarily move the electrical harness off the frame rail during removal of the fascia brackets. After raising the side plates into position and loosely securing the hardware, reconnect the electrical harness through the hole in the driver side plate.
If oil cooler lines are present, remove them by unclipping the attachment from the frame rail during Step 1. After installation, attach them to the provided hole on the side plate in Step 5.
Torque all 1/2" hardware to 110 ft-lbs. Torque all M12-1.75 hardware to 86 ft-lbs. These specifications apply to all fasteners used in the installation.
Leave all fasteners loose during Steps 1-4. Only in Step 5, after all hardware is in place, should you secure all fasteners and torque them to specification: 110 ft-lbs for all 1/2" hardware and 86 ft-lbs for all M12-1.75 hardware.
After installation, verify that all fasteners are tight and all structural components are sound. The manual recommends periodically checking the receiver hitch to ensure all fasteners remain tight and all structural components remain sound during ownership.
For maximum line pull rating, the winch cable must not exceed 15 degrees up or down from horizontal and must not exceed 45 degrees left or right from straight ahead. Exceeding these angles may overload the winch, winch mount, and/or front mounted receiver.
No. Never use a ball or ball mount as an anchor point for a tow strap or winch cable. Severe personal injury or death could result. Use OEM tow hooks, recovery eyes, or a clevis mount instead.
When using a snatch block, attach the return cable to a tow hook or recovery eye, not to the winch mount. Do not attach the return cable to the winch mount, as this may overload the winch mount and/or front mounted receiver.
Do not exceed the front axle Gross Weight Rating (GAWR) specified in your vehicle's owner's manual or on the specification plate located on the driver's door frame. Measure gross front axle weight by placing the front wheels of the loaded vehicle on a scale. Exceeding GAWR may overload the front axle and/or suspension, which could result in accident, property damage, and personal injury.
After installation, verify that: the front mounted license plate is not obstructed (reposition if necessary); vehicle lights are not obstructed; air flow into the grille opening is not blocked; the driver's view is not obstructed; and the hitch does not obstruct any vehicle lights. The hitch extends the front of the vehicle and may reduce approach angle, so use caution when parking and maneuvering.
Rear wheel traction may be reduced when the hitch is installed and used. This could affect handling. Reduce speed and drive with caution, especially when towing or carrying heavy loads.
Safety glasses must be worn at all times while installing this product.
The manual recommends periodically checking the receiver hitch to ensure that all fasteners are tight and that all structural components are sound. However, it does not specify an exact interval. Contact CURT Manufacturing technical support at 1-877-287-8634 for recommended maintenance intervals.
Yes, the CURT 31078 is designed for Ford Super Duty trucks from 2017 to current model years.
Weight-carrying: 5,000 lbs trailer weight, 500 lbs tongue weight. Straight-line pull (winching): 9,000 lbs maximum. Never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity.
Torque all 1/2" hardware to 110 ft-lbs and all M12-1.75 hardware to 86 ft-lbs.
Professional installation: 30 minutes. Novice (DIY) installation: 60 minutes.
No. Never use a ball or ball mount as an anchor point for a tow strap or winch cable. Severe personal injury or death could result. Use OEM tow hooks or recovery eyes instead.
The manual states that trim dimensions are approximate and may be modified for an ideal fit. If the marked trim area does not align properly with your vehicle's fascia, adjust the masking tape marks before cutting with the rotary tool to achieve the best fit.
The manual specifies that the electrical harness should be reconnected through the hole in the driver side plate in Step 5. If it does not fit, verify that the hole is clear and unobstructed. If the harness is too thick, contact CURT Manufacturing technical support at 1-877-287-8634.
