A CURT front trailer hitch allows you to use the front end of your vehicle for a variety of towing applications. They can be used for mounting a winch, a snow plow, a number of towing accessories and can even be used for some trailering applications. When space is limited, a front trailer hitch is commonly used to hold a cargo carrier, freeing up space inside the vehicle for extra cargo and making the rear mount receiver available to pull a trailer. At the boat ramp, your boat trailer can be hitched up to the front receiver hitch, giving you better control over the trailer as you launch. Some of the other accessories that can be used with a front tow hitch are the CURT winch mount, step pad, license plate holder, spare tire mount, skid shield and tow hooks. All CURT front trailer hitches provide a useful receiver tube to accept a 2" x 2" shank, and they are commonly used on trucks, vans and SUVs. This front trailer hitch is rated for 5,000 lbs. GTW and 500 lbs. TW. It also has a straight-line pull rating of 9,000 lbs. It is designed to be a custom trailer hitch for certain years of the Ford Excursion, F250 Super Duty, F350 Super Duty, F450 Super Duty and F550 Super Duty (to verify your vehicle compatibility, see application info). It comes with all necessary hardware for a complete installation and is backed by a limited lifetime warranty.

Yes, Curt part number 31114 is designed for Ford F-250, F-350, F-450, F-550, and Excursion. However, if you have an F-450 or F-550, the hitch only fits vehicles with a 34" frame. Verify your frame size before purchasing.
The 31114 hitch fits F-450 and F-550 trucks only if they have a 34" frame. If your truck has a different frame size, this hitch is not compatible.
The 31114 has a gross load capacity of 5,000 lbs trailer weight and 500 lbs tongue weight when used as a weight-carrying hitch. Maximum line pull should not exceed 9,000 lbs. You must not exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity, which may be lower than these figures.
Yes, bumper removal is required. Step 1 of the installation process requires you to remove the four bumper bolts, bumper, shim plates, and tow hooks (if equipped). The bumper is reinstalled in step 7 after the hitch is positioned.
Yes, drilling is required. You must drill four holes using a 5/8" drill bit into the frame rails where the hitch bolts attach. The hitch is used as a template to mark the hole locations before drilling.
You will need a 5/8" drill bit and drill, a socket wrench or wrench set to tighten the 1/2" fasteners, and a torque wrench to torque fasteners to 110 lb-ft. A socket set for removing and reinstalling the bumper bolts is also required. The manual does not specify additional tools.
The kit includes: four 1/2"-13 UNC 1-3/4" grade 8 hex head cap screws (part 10-10370), four 1/2"-13 grade 8 handle nuts (part 20-00174), four 1/2" washers (part 30-00149), and four 0.250 x 1.50 x 2.00" round hole spacers (part CM-SP16). All fasteners are zinc-plated or cadmium-plated.
Step 2 of the installation requires you to remove the lower front cross member if equipped. This means it is only present on some vehicles. Check your truck to see if a lower front cross member exists; if it does, remove it before positioning the hitch.
Optional OEM fog lights must be removed for hitch installation. If your truck is equipped with factory fog lights, they must be removed before the hitch can be installed.
All 1/2" fasteners must be torqued to 110 lb-ft. This applies to the four 1/2"-13 bolts that attach the hitch to the frame rails.
1. Remove four bumper bolts, bumper, shim plates, and tow hooks (if equipped). 2. Remove lower front cross member (if equipped). 3. Place receiver hitch inside bumper and line up outside holes. 4. Mark and drill four 5/8" holes using the hitch as a template. 5. Place hitch over frame rail ends. 6. Reinstall lower front cross member and tow hooks (if equipped). 7. Reinstall bumper with original four bolts; do not reinstall shim plates. 8. Insert 1/2"-13 x 1-3/4" bolts with washers into drilled holes, secure with spacers and handle nuts. 9. Torque all 1/2" fasteners to 110 lb-ft.
Do not reinstall the shim plates. Step 7 explicitly states to reinstall the bumper using the four bolts removed in step 1 but to not install the shim plates and return them to the customer.
The driver's side handle nuts must be held in place to prevent them from rotating into the air conditioning condenser. This is a caution stated in step 8 and shown in figure 2. Allowing the nuts to rotate into the condenser could damage the air conditioning system.
Periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure that all fasteners are tight and that all structural components are sound. The manual does not specify a retorque interval or other maintenance procedures beyond this periodic inspection.
The maximum line pull should not exceed 9,000 lbs. This is a separate specification from the gross load capacity and applies to pulling force. You must also not exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity.
Yes. Curt Manufacturing Inc. warrants the product to be free of defects in material and workmanship at the time of retail purchase by the original purchaser. If defective, Curt may repair or replace the product at their option when returned prepaid with proof of purchase. Warranty is voided by alteration, misuse, or improper installation.
