A CURT front trailer hitch allows you to use the front end of your vehicle for a variety of towing applications. They can be used for mounting a winch, a snow plow, a number of towing accessories and can even be used for some trailering applications. When space is limited, a front trailer hitch is commonly used to hold a cargo carrier, freeing up space inside the vehicle for extra cargo and making the rear mount receiver available to pull a trailer. At the boat ramp, your boat trailer can be hitched up to the front receiver hitch, giving you better control over the trailer as you launch. Some of the other accessories that can be used with a front tow hitch are the CURT winch mount, step pad, license plate holder, spare tire mount, skid shield and tow hooks. All CURT front trailer hitches provide a useful receiver tube to accept a 2" x 2" shank, and they are commonly used on trucks, vans and SUVs. This front trailer hitch is rated for 3,500 lbs. GTW and 350 lbs. TW. It also has a straight-line pull rating of 9,000 lbs. It is designed to be a custom trailer hitch for certain years of the Jeep Wrangler JL and Gladiator (to verify your vehicle compatibility, see application info). It comes with all necessary hardware for a complete installation and is backed by a limited lifetime warranty.

The hitch has a gross load capacity of 9,000 lbs. max. when used as a straight line pull. However, you must never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity, which may be lower. Consult your vehicle's owner manual or specification plate for the vehicle's maximum towing limit.
The manual specifies a tongue weight of 350 lbs. for the 31086 hitch.
The hitch weight is 16 lbs.
No, drilling is not required. The installation instructions explicitly state 'NO DRILLING REQUIRED'.
The following tools are required: ratchet, torque wrench, safety glasses, straight screwdriver, aviator shears, 8mm socket, 16mm socket, 17mm socket, 11/16" socket, tape measure, and masking tape. The manual also lists fishwire as a tool for installing the rearmost bolts.
The kit includes: (4) 7/16-14 UNC carriage bolts, 1-1/4" grade 8 (part 10-10281); (2) M10x1.5x35 hex head cap screws, class 10.9 (part 10-10498); (4) 7/16-14 UNC serrated flange nuts, grade 8 (part 20-00103); (2) 7/16" split-cone washers (part 30-00163); (4) 3/8" flat washers (part 30-00210); (4) 0.250 x 1.00 x 2.00" square hole spacers (part CM-SP7); (2) 7/16" fishwire (part 7_16 FISHWIRE); (1) driver side fascia tab (part 31086-DSFT); and (1) passenger side fascia tab (part 31086-PSFT).
Two people may be required to ease installation. The manual states 'TO EASE INSTALLATION, 2 PEOPLE MAY BE REQUIRED.' If you are hesitant to undertake this task on your own, contact an authorized CURT installer for additional assistance.
Professional installation time is approximately 16 minutes. For a novice DIY installation, allow approximately 90 minutes.
Safety glasses must be worn at all times while installing this product.
Yes. The first installation step requires removing 8 plastic push fasteners from the upper edge of the lower front fascia, then removing 2 5mm screws (using an 8mm socket) from the lower edge, and 2 10mm bolts (using a 16mm socket) holding the steel shield. Return the bolts and shield to the vehicle owner, but keep the 2 clip nuts for later reinstallation.
All 7/16" fasteners must be torqued to 59 lb.-ft.
The 10mm fasteners (supplied fascia tab bolts) must be torqued to 45 lb.-ft.
If needed, add 1 or 2 3/8" washers (part 30-00210) to each side between the rail and hitch to level the hitch. These washers are used in addition to the supplied spacers.
The small holes in the fascia tabs should be about 31.25" apart to line up with the fascia panel mounting holes.
Yes. After the hitch is mounted and torqued, you must trim the lower plastic fascia as shown in the Panel Trim Diagram to reinstall it around the receiver tube of the hitch. The diagram shows trimming approximately 5" from the center, with 3" and 1.5" measurements on either side of the center locating stud.
Use aviator shears to trim the lower plastic fascia panel.
Use fishwire for the 2 rearmost bolts. Insert the 7/16" carriage bolts and spacers through the closest access hole using the fishwire to guide them into the mounting holes.
You must not exceed your vehicle's front axle Gross Weight Rating (GAWR). Consult your vehicle's owner manual or the specification plate located on the driver's door frame. Measure gross front axle weight by placing the front wheels of your loaded vehicle on a scale. Exceeding GAWR may overload the front axle and/or suspension, which could result in accident, property damage and personal injury.
You must use OEM tow hooks, recovery eyes, or a clevis mount for attachment of a tow strap or winch cable. Never use a ball and/or ball mount as an anchor point for tow strap or winch cable, as severe personal injury or death could result.
For maximum line pull rating, the winch cable must not exceed 15 degrees angle up or down from horizontal, and must not exceed 45 degrees angle left or right from straight ahead. Exceeding these angles may overload the winch, winch mount, and/or front mounted receiver.
Do not obstruct vehicle lights. Reposition your front mounted license plate if it is obstructed by the hitch. Also ensure the hitch does not obstruct driver view and allows free air flow into the grille opening.
Rear wheel traction may be reduced, which could affect handling. Reduce speed and drive with caution. Additionally, the hitch extends the front of your vehicle, which may reduce approach angle. Use caution when parking and maneuvering.
Periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure that all fasteners are tight and that all structural components are sound. This is a critical maintenance step to ensure safe operation.
Yes. This product complies with safety specifications and requirements for connecting devices and towing systems of the state of New York, V.E.S.C. Regulation V-5 and SAE J684.
