A CURT front trailer hitch allows you to use the front end of your vehicle for a variety of towing applications. They can be used for mounting a winch, a snow plow, a number of towing accessories and can even be used for some trailering applications. When space is limited, a front trailer hitch is commonly used to hold a cargo carrier, freeing up space inside the vehicle for extra cargo and making the rear mount receiver available to pull a trailer. At the boat ramp, your boat trailer can be hitched up to the front receiver hitch, giving you better control over the trailer as you launch. Some of the other accessories that can be used with a front tow hitch are the CURT winch mount, step pad, license plate holder, spare tire mount, skid shield and tow hooks. All CURT front trailer hitches provide a useful receiver tube to accept a 2" x 2" shank, and they are commonly used on trucks, vans and SUVs. This front trailer hitch is rated for 5,000 lbs. GTW and 500 lbs. TW. It also has a straight-line pull rating of 9,000 lbs. Yes, air dam trimming is required. Trim the lower air dam as needed for hitch clearance. The trim diagram on page 2 shows the approximate trim location: 4.75 inches horizontally and 1.63 inches vertically from the vehicle centerline. Use a rotary tool with a cut-off wheel to perform the trimming.
Two people may be required to ease installation. While one person may be able to complete the installation, having a second person can make the process easier, particularly when raising the hitch into position and managing the bumper.
Installation sequence: (1) Trim lower air dam as needed. (2) Remove the lower two existing nuts from behind the bumper on each side; loosen the top nut on each side until only a couple threads are engaged, then push both sets of bolts toward the vehicle center. (3) Place one CM-SP42 spacer onto each exposed bolt. (4) Raise the hitch by first raising the passenger side and inserting bolts through the forward hole in the hitch side plate, then rotate the driver side up and push bolts toward the outside. (5) Insert spacer plate between frame and hitch side plate, then insert 5/8" x 4" hex bolts with lock washers and flat washers, and attach with hex flange nuts. Repeat on the other side. (6) Reposition and level the bumper while tightening hardware.
The top nuts on each side must remain partially engaged (with only a couple threads engaged) because they prevent the bolts from being pushed completely through. Complete removal of all four bolts will cause the bumper to fall. Loosen the top nuts only until a couple threads remain engaged, then push the bolts toward the vehicle center.
Torque the 5/8" hardware to 180 ft-lbs and M12 hardware to 86 ft-lbs. Tighten fasteners while repositioning and leveling the bumper. After installation, periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure all fasteners remain tight.

Raise the hitch into position in two stages: (1) First raise the passenger side of the hitch and insert the bolts back into position through the forward most hole in the hitch side plate. (2) Then rotate the driver side of the hitch up into position and push the bolts back toward the outside of the vehicle. Note that the passenger side bolts may not go in as far as the driver side bolts. If needed, use a soft mallet to tap the bolts in.

For vehicle recovery and winching: (1) Use only OEM tow hooks, recovery eyes, or a clevis mount for attachment of a tow strap or winch cable. Never use a ball or ball mount as an anchor point—severe personal injury or death could result. (2) Observe winch manufacturer's recommendations, cautions, and warnings. (3) Attach return cable to tow hook or recovery eye when using a snatch block, not to the winch mount. (4) Ensure winch cable does not exceed 15 degrees angle up or down from horizontal and 45 degrees angle left or right from straight ahead. Exceeding these angles may overload the winch, winch mount, and/or front mounted receiver.

Exceeding GAWR may overload the front axle and/or suspension, resulting in accident, property damage, and personal injury. (2) Reposition front-mounted license plate if obstructed. (3) Do not obstruct vehicle lights. (4) Allow free air flow into grille opening. (5) Rear wheel traction may be reduced, affecting handling—reduce speed and drive with caution. (6) Accessories extend the front of the vehicle, which may reduce approach angle—use caution when parking and maneuvering. (7) Do not obstruct driver view.

If the bolts are difficult to move, try pushing up on the bumper to take pressure off the bolts, making them easier to move. If this does not work, use a soft mallet to tap the bolts in toward the center of the vehicle.
Bumper shift is normal when loosening the bolts. To minimize the effect, push up on the bumper while loosening the bolts to take pressure off them. This will make the bolts easier to move and help manage the bumper position. After the hitch is positioned, reposition and level the bumper by pushing up on it while tightening the hardware.
