A CURT front trailer hitch allows you to use the front end of your vehicle for a variety of towing applications. They can be used for mounting a winch, a snow plow, a number of towing accessories and can even be used for some trailering applications. When space is limited, a front trailer hitch is commonly used to hold a cargo carrier, freeing up space inside the vehicle for extra cargo and making the rear mount receiver available to pull a trailer. At the boat ramp, your boat trailer can be hitched up to the front receiver hitch, giving you better control over the trailer as you launch. Some of the other accessories that can be used with a front tow hitch are the CURT winch mount, step pad, license plate holder, spare tire mount, skid shield and tow hooks. All CURT front trailer hitches provide a useful receiver tube to accept a 2" x 2" shank, and they are commonly used on trucks, vans and SUVs. This front trailer hitch is rated for 5,000 lbs. GTW and 500 lbs. TW. It also has a straight-line pull rating of 9,000 lbs. It is designed to be a custom trailer hitch for certain years of the Honda Ridgeline (to verify your vehicle compatibility, see application info). It comes with all necessary hardware for a complete installation and is backed by a limited lifetime warranty.

Yes, the Curt 31082 is designed for 2017-Current Honda Ridgeline models. Verify your vehicle year matches this range before purchasing.
The hitch has a gross load capacity of 5,000 lbs trailer weight and 500 lbs tongue weight when used as a weight-carrying hitch. However, you must never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity. Consult your Honda Ridgeline owner's manual for the vehicle's maximum towing limit.
When used as a straight-line pull (such as for recovery or winching), the hitch has a gross load capacity of 9,000 lbs maximum.
You will need: ratchet, 10mm socket, 17mm socket, 19mm socket, 3/4" socket, torque wrench, 6" socket extension, 11/16" drill bit, power drill, flat head screwdriver, and Phillips screwdriver. Safety glasses should be worn at all times during installation.
Two people may be required to ease installation. The manual recommends reading all instructions thoroughly before beginning and notes that using proper tools will greatly improve the quality of the install and reduce the time required.
Installation is rated as moderate difficulty. If you are hesitant to undertake this task on your own, Curt recommends contacting an authorized Curt installer for additional assistance. You can also call Curt technical support at 877-287-8634 for help.
Yes, drilling is required. You must use an 11/16" drill bit to enlarge the holes at each end of the cross member before inserting the rivet nuts. No trimming is required.
The hitch includes: 2× HHCS 1/2-13 UNC 1-3/4" Grade 8 (part 10-10370), 4× S-CON washer 1/2" (part 30-00149), 2× 1/2-13 rivet nuts (part 20-00203), 4× 0.250 x 1.00 x 1.50" round hole spacers (part CM-SP50), 2× HHCS M12x1.25 40CL10.9 (part 10-10277), and 2× lock washers 1/2" (part 30-00153).
You must remove: 5 plastic push pins from the center area of the fascia, 8 bolts (10mm) from the center area of the fascia, 2 plastic push pins from the cross member (1 on each side), 2 screws (Phillips) from the vehicle panel (1 on each side), and 1 M12 bolt from the bracket on each frame rail (2 total, 17mm socket). Return the removed M12 bolts and vehicle panel to the owner. The 4 black hex bolts removed from the fascia are reinstalled during the hitch installation.
Torque all 1/2" fasteners to 110 ft-lbs and all M12 fasteners to 76 ft-lbs. When setting the rivet nut initially, tighten the 1/2"-13 hex bolt to 50 ft-lbs while holding the hitch tight against the cross member.
The CM-SP50 spacers are 0.250 x 1.00 x 1.50" round hole spacers. Two spacers are placed on top of each side plate and positioned between the vehicle bracket and side plate when loosely installing the M12 x 40mm bolt.
After enlarging the holes at each end of the cross member with an 11/16" drill bit, insert the rivet nuts into the enlarged holes. Then hold the hitch tight against the cross member and tighten the 1/2"-13 hex bolt to 50 ft-lbs to set the rivet nut. If the rivet nut spins and does not tighten, place a 1/2" lock washer between the hitch and rivet nut, torque to 50 ft-lbs to set it, then loosen the bolt, remove the lock washer, and reinstall the 1/2"-13 hex bolt with the conical toothed washer.
Periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure all fasteners are tight and all structural components are sound. This should be done regularly throughout the life of the hitch.
You must not exceed your vehicle's front axle Gross Weight Rating (GAWR). Consult your Honda Ridgeline owner's manual or the specification plate located on the driver's door frame. Measure gross front axle weight by placing the front wheels of your loaded vehicle on a scale. Exceeding GAWR may overload the front axle and/or suspension, which could result in accident, property damage, and personal injury.
No. Never use a ball mount as an anchor point for a tow strap or winch cable. Severe personal injury or death could result. Use only OEM tow hooks, recovery eyes, or a clevis mount for attachment of a tow strap or winch cable.
For maximum line pull rating, the winch cable must not exceed 15 degrees angle up or down from horizontal, and must not exceed 45 degrees angle left or right from straight ahead. Exceeding these angles may overload the winch, winch mount, and/or front mounted receiver.
Attach the return cable to the tow hook or recovery eye when using a snatch block. Do not attach the return cable to the winch mount, as this may overload the winch mount and/or front mounted receiver.
Reposition the front-mounted license plate if obstructed. Do not obstruct vehicle lights or driver view. Allow free air flow into the grille opening. Be aware that accessories extend the front of the vehicle, which may reduce approach angle—use caution when parking and maneuvering. Rear wheel traction may be reduced, which could affect handling—reduce speed and drive with caution.
Non-trailer loads may be applied to the hitch, but all non-trailer loads must be supported by Curt stabilizing straps (part 18050). Failure to properly support non-trailer loads will void the product warranty.
