A CURT front trailer hitch allows you to use the front end of your vehicle for a variety of towing applications. They can be used for mounting a winch, a snow plow, a number of towing accessories and can even be used for some trailering applications. When space is limited, a front trailer hitch is commonly used to hold a cargo carrier, freeing up space inside the vehicle for extra cargo and making the rear mount receiver available to pull a trailer. At the boat ramp, your boat trailer can be hitched up to the front receiver hitch, giving you better control over the trailer as you launch. Some of the other accessories that can be used with a front tow hitch are the CURT winch mount, step pad, license plate holder, spare tire mount, skid shield and tow hooks. All CURT front trailer hitches provide a useful receiver tube to accept a 2" x 2" shank, and they are commonly used on trucks, vans and SUVs. This front trailer hitch is rated for 5,000 lbs. GTW and 500 lbs. TW. It also has a straight-line pull rating of 9,000 lbs. It is designed to be a custom trailer hitch for certain years of the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 (to verify your vehicle compatibility, see application info). It comes with all necessary hardware for a complete installation and is backed by a limited lifetime warranty.

The CURT 31092 has a gross trailer weight (GTW) capacity of 5,000 lbs., a tongue weight (TW) capacity of 500 lbs., and a straight line pull capacity of 9,000 lbs. Never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity.
Required tools include: ratchet, torque wrench, 13mm socket, 18mm socket, 3/4" socket, socket extensions, 18mm boxed end wrench, reciprocating saw, tape, tape measure, paint marker, and safety glasses. A tools reference guide is available at curtmfg.com/trailer-hitch-installation.
Yes. You must temporarily remove the underbody panel (secured by four bolts) and remove one clip nut from each frame rail. You must also remove the rear tow hook bolt from the driver-side frame rail. On GMC models, also remove the nut from the bolt on the passenger-side frame rail.
Fishwire is a tool used to guide bolts and spacers through the vehicle frame rail. Insert the coiled end of the fishwire through the hitch mounting hole in the frame rail and out the access hole. Pass the coiled end through the spacer and thread the bolt into the coil. Kink the wire to keep the spacer separate from the bolt. Pull the fishwire, spacer, and bolt through the frame and out the mounting hole. This prevents loss of bolts or spacers inside the frame rail.
The lower air dam may require trimming if equipped. Trimming dimensions vary depending on the trim package. The manual does not specify exact trimming dimensions, so assess clearance during installation.
Torque all 7/16" hardware (carriage bolts and serrated-flange nuts) to 59 ft-lbs. Torque the M12 hex bolt to 79 ft-lbs. Use a torque wrench to ensure proper tightness and prevent damage to the product or vehicle.
The kit includes: 1 hex bolt M12, 1 conical-toothed washer 1/2", 4 carriage bolts 7/16", 4 square hole spacers (1/4" x 0.88" x 2-1/4"), 4 serrated-flange nuts 7/16", 2 hex nuts 7/16", and 4 fishwires 7/16".
Secure the hitch with the M12 hex bolt and conical-toothed washer to the inside driver-side frame weldnut. On GMC models, use the removed M12 flange nut on the passenger side. Secure the bottom of both frames with the included 7/16" serrated-flange nuts. Reinstall the underbody panel using the supplied 7/16" nuts.
The installation is rated as moderate difficulty. The level is based on time and effort involved and may vary depending on the installer's level of expertise, vehicle condition, and availability of proper tools and equipment.
Safety glasses must be worn at all times during installation. Never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity when using the hitch. After installation, perform periodic inspection of the trailer hitch to ensure all mounting hardware remains tight and structural components are secure.
