A CURT front trailer hitch allows you to use the front end of your vehicle for a variety of towing applications. They can be used for mounting a winch, a snow plow, a number of towing accessories and can even be used for some trailering applications. When space is limited, a front trailer hitch is commonly used to hold a cargo carrier, freeing up space inside the vehicle for extra cargo and making the rear mount receiver available to pull a trailer. At the boat ramp, your boat trailer can be hitched up to the front receiver hitch, giving you better control over the trailer as you launch. Some of the other accessories that can be used with a front tow hitch are the CURT winch mount, step pad, license plate holder, spare tire mount, skid shield and tow hooks. All CURT front trailer hitches provide a useful receiver tube to accept a 2" x 2" shank, and they are commonly used on trucks, vans and SUVs. This front trailer hitch is rated for 3,500 lbs. GTW and 350 lbs. TW. It also has a straight-line pull rating of 9,000 lbs. It is designed to be a custom trailer hitch for certain years of the Toyota 4Runner and FJ Cruiser (to verify your vehicle compatibility, see application info). It comes with all necessary hardware for a complete installation and is backed by a limited lifetime warranty.

Yes, the Curt 31367 is designed for Toyota FJ Cruiser and 4Runner models, including Trail Edition. Confirm your vehicle matches these applications before purchasing.
No. The manual explicitly states "NO DRILLING REQUIRED." The hitch uses existing frame studs and factory tow loop brackets.
The kit includes two 5/8"-11 UNC grade 8 bolts (part 10-10292), two 5/8"-11 UNC grade 8 serrated flange nuts (part 20-00105), and two 0.250 x 1.50 x 3.00" square hole spacers (part CM-31367-SP). Factory hex flange nuts on the frame rail are reused.
Torque all 5/8" fasteners to 180 lb-ft. The manual also references 10mm fasteners at 48 lb-ft, but no 10mm fasteners appear in the supplied parts list; verify which fasteners apply to your installation.
Do not exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity. The manual does not specify the hitch's individual capacity limits; consult your vehicle's owner's manual or specification plate on the driver's door frame.
Yes. The manual explicitly lists "TOYOTA FJ CRUISER & 4 RUNNER INCLUDING TRAIL EDITION" as compatible applications.
No. The installation procedure locates the vehicle's existing tow loop brackets under the hitch mounting plates. The hitch bolts pass through the tow loops, so the factory brackets remain in place.
1. Remove the two lowest hex flange nuts from each side of the frame rail and set aside for reuse. 2. Lift the hitch into position, locating the vehicle tow loop brackets under the hitch mounting plates. 3. Insert the 5/8" bolts through the front plates and through the tow loops. 4. Loosely install the 5/8" nuts and supplied spacers, then reinstall the factory flange nuts removed in step 1. 5. Torque all 5/8" fasteners to 180 lb-ft.
Leave fasteners loose during assembly. In step 4, install the 5/8" nuts and spacers loosely before reinstalling the factory flange nuts. Only after all fasteners are in place do you torque them to specification in step 5.
Yes. The two lowest hex flange nuts removed from each side of the frame rail in step 1 are reused. After inserting the new bolts and spacers, you reinstall these factory nuts in step 4.
The two supplied 0.250 x 1.50 x 3.00" square hole spacers (part CM-31367-SP) are installed loosely with the 5/8" nuts in step 4. They position the hitch correctly on the frame rail before final torquing.
Do not exceed your vehicle's front axle GAWR. The manual does not specify a limit; consult your vehicle's owner's manual or the specification plate on the driver's door frame. Measure gross front axle weight by placing the front wheels of your loaded vehicle on a scale. Exceeding GAWR may overload the front axle and suspension, resulting in accident, property damage, and personal injury.
No. The manual explicitly warns: "NEVER use a ball and/or ball mount as an anchor point for tow strap or winch cable. Severe personal injury or death could result." Use OEM tow hooks, recovery eyes, or a clevis mount instead.
For maximum line pull rating, winch cable must not exceed 15 degrees up or down from horizontal, and 45 degrees left or right from straight ahead. Exceeding these angles may overload the winch, winch mount, and front-mounted receiver.
Attach the return cable to the tow hook or recovery eye, not to the winch mount. Attaching to the winch mount may overload the winch mount and/or front-mounted receiver.
Rear wheel traction may be reduced when the hitch is installed and in use. This could affect handling. Reduce speed and drive with caution, especially when towing or under load.
Yes. The hitch extends the front of the vehicle, which may reduce approach angle. Use caution when parking and maneuvering, especially on uneven terrain.
Periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure that all fasteners are tight and that all structural components are sound. The manual does not specify an exact interval; inspect before each towing operation and at regular maintenance intervals.
Periodically check all fasteners to ensure they remain tight and inspect all structural components for damage or wear. The manual does not specify a retorque interval; consult the manufacturer or your installer for recommended maintenance schedules.
