The RVibrake4 is a wireless braking system for flat towing that applies the brakes on a towed vehicle when the motorhome brakes. It uses an accelerometer to detect inertia changes and proportionally applies brake pressure to the towed vehicle's brake pedal, reducing stopping distance and taking weight off the motorhome during braking. The system includes the RVibrake4 unit, Bullseye Wireless Monitor, Phantom Bracket Stop Plate, and Breakaway System.
RVibrake4 is designed to work with both Vacuum assist and Active assist brake systems. Vacuum assist vehicles use a master brake booster to boost pressure when braking. Active assist vehicles have constant electrical or hydraulic systems to assist braking whether the engine is running. Most hybrid and diesel vehicles use Active assist brakes. To determine your vehicle's brake type, consult the vehicle manufacturer's owner's guide or call CURT Customer Service at 877-287-8634.

You must always consult the vehicle's owner's manual to fully understand flat towing procedures, limitations, and requirements. Failure to follow manufacturer guidelines may result in severe vehicle damage and may void warranties. You must also ensure compliance with all applicable state and local laws regarding flat towing, as regulations may vary by jurisdiction.
If the towed vehicle has a flat floorboard with no seat pan to push against, you must refer to the Phantom Bracket Installation Guide included in the Phantom Bracket package. The Phantom Bracket Stop Plate is included with the RVibrake4 kit for this purpose.
The kit includes: (1) RVibrake4 unit, (1) Bullseye Wireless Monitor, (1) Phantom Bracket Stop Plate, and (1) Breakaway System. The RVibrake4 also comes with a USB charger for the Bullseye Wireless Monitor and a 12-volt adapter.
Carpeted floor mats do not need to be removed. However, thicker rubber mats may need to be removed prior to using RVibrake4 to provide an adequate pushing surface for the unit.
Before installing RVibrake4, make sure the towed vehicle is tow ready. Failure to do so can result in tire damage or excessive brake wear.
1. Adjust the driver's seat to the far back position. 2. Place RVibrake4 on the floorboard so the black brake pedal claw is directly in front of the brake pedal. 3. Attach the claw to the brake pedal, leaving about an inch of space behind the brake and the rise in floorboard. The lower part of the claw should cradle the bottom of the pedal first, then lift the upper part with two fingers over the top. 4. Slide RVibrake4 back towards the seat until it reaches the edge of the seat pan. 5. Plug the 12-volt adapter into a 12-volt receptacle in the towed vehicle. 6. Press the Auto Position button three times when the audio prompt instructs. 7. Finally, plug the Breakaway plug into RVibrake4.
The Auto Position process automatically positions RVibrake4 in the seat pan of the towed vehicle and removes vacuum stored in the towed vehicle's braking reservoir. When the audio prompt sounds, press the Auto Position button a total of three separate times. The compressor may or may not come on after each button press. This process must be completed every time the towed vehicle's engine is started after setup to drain the vacuum in the braking reservoir. Never press the Auto Position button unless the claw is connected to a brake pedal.
If the claw rotates off over the top of the pedal, use the lower hole in the back of the claw. If it rotates off under the pedal, use the upper hole. Then repeat the Auto Position process.
Pairing is not required for RVibrake4 to perform, but it is recommended. RVibrake4 does not come paired with the Bullseye Wireless Monitor. To pair them, the breakaway cable must be left unplugged from RVibrake4 during pairing. On the Bullseye, tap the serial number that matches the number on the side of the RVibrake4.
Power on the Bullseye Wireless Monitor by connecting it to the provided USB charger. For more information, see the Bullseye User Guide.
No. Never power the RVibrake4 off of the motorhome. If breakaway occurs, the RVibrake4 will no longer have power if connected solely to the motorhome for power. RVibrake4 should always be connected to the towed vehicle's battery. If you need to disconnect the battery for towing or the stock 12V outlet in the towed vehicle is insufficient, a 12V Direct to Battery Kit and/or Towed Battery Disconnect are needed.
The micro USB port is only for factory use to program units. It is not for customer use.
Never: (1) exceed the vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity; (2) power the RVibrake4 from the motorhome umbilical cord alone; (3) manually depress the brake pedal with a hand or foot during or after the Auto Position process, as this will cause improper positioning and tire damage or excessive brake wear; (4) press the Auto Position button unless the claw is connected to a brake pedal; (5) run the towed vehicle's engine while RVibrake4 is plugged in, as this will cause excessive braking for the first brakings of the day. Always unplug RVibrake4 whenever the tow vehicle's engine is running.
If the towed vehicle becomes unattached from the motorhome, the Breakaway pin is pulled on the junction box. When this occurs, 'BREAKAWAY' will display on the Bullseye Wireless Monitor and an audible alarm will sound. RVibrake4 will apply the brakes on the towed vehicle and it will be brought to a complete stop. The Audio Assistant will let you know that RVibrake is ready for towing. See the Breakaway Installation Guide for installation and operation details.
For Vacuum Brake Type vehicles, choose the vehicle type that most applies to your towed vehicle (such as Compact Car or Small SUV). For Active Brake Type vehicles, choose the PSI level for your car. If the towed vehicle is an SUV, always begin in the Small SUV setting. If Active brakes are selected, always begin at 5 PSI. Brake Pressure determines how hard RVibrake4 will push on the brake pedal. The lighter the car, the lighter the pressure. To ensure the correct Brake Pressure for your vehicle, perform the Brake Test in the Operation section.
RVibrake4 has three settings: (1) Brake Type (Vacuum or Active assist), (2) Brake Pressure (vehicle type for Vacuum, PSI level for Active), and (3) Sensitivity (Normal or Panic Only). To change these settings, use the Bullseye Wireless Monitor, which must first be paired with RVibrake4. The 'Normal' sensitivity setting is appropriate for most towing situations. 'Panic Only' means RVibrake4 will only participate in emergency braking.
The Bullseye Wireless Monitor gives complete, continuous braking information. A glance at the screen assures that RVibrake4 is fully operational. When RVibrake4 pushes on the pedal, the braking rings illuminate in Drive Mode. The harder RVibrake4 pushes on the pedal, the more the braking indicator rings will grow. Note: If the Bullseye Wireless Monitor is not powered on, RVibrake4 will still continue to work.
A Brake Test ensures there is the correct brake pressure for the towed vehicle and is performed in Drive Mode. In the motorhome, accelerate to approximately 30 MPH, then lift off the accelerator. While coasting, press the Brake Test button on the Bullseye screen; a gentle pull on the motorhome should be felt. If a gentle pull is not felt, increase your Brake Pressure setting for greater pull and repeat the test. If too much pull is felt, decrease the Brake Pressure or pick a smaller vehicle type for less pull. Repeat the test as needed until only a gentle pull is felt while coasting.
Periodic inspection of the RVibrake4 should be performed to ensure all mounting hardware remains tight and structural components are secure. Proper tools and specified torque specifications should be used when securing hardware during installation to help prevent damage to the product or vehicle.
Most vehicles use engine vacuum (vacuum assist brakes) to assist in braking. After the engine is turned off, 2-3 brakings of vacuum assist are stored in the master booster and must be depleted by the RVibrake4 in setup. If the engine runs during or after installation of the RVibrake4, the master booster will store vacuum assist, causing excessive braking for the first brakings of the day. Always unplug the RVibrake4 whenever the tow vehicle's engine is running.
Braking force, which is determined by the Brake Pressure setting, can be modified from the Bullseye Wireless Monitor in the motorhome. Regardless of pressure settings, RVibrake4 will always respond with full pressure during an emergency stop. Adjust the Brake Pressure setting and perform the Brake Test again to verify the correct setting.
If the brake pedal is manually depressed with a hand or foot during or after the Auto Position process, the air cylinder will be improperly positioned, causing the brake pedal to ride the brakes. This will result in tire damage or excessive brake wear. If this happens, the Auto Position process must be completed again for proper setup. Unplug the 12-volt adapter and begin the setup process again from Step 2.
RVibrake4 works with vehicles approved for flat towing by the manufacturer and equipped with either vacuum assist or active assist brakes. You must verify your vehicle is approved for flat towing in the owner's manual and comply with all state and local towing laws.
