The Breakaway Wireless Adapter (BWA) model 52205 is a wireless communication device that connects your RVibrake3 or RVibrake4 breakaway system to monitoring equipment. It allows the breakaway system to communicate wirelessly with a Command Center tablet and hub or a Bullseye Wireless Monitor, enabling you to monitor the status of your towed vehicle's braking system during towing.
No. The BWA 52205 is compatible only with RVibrake3 and RVibrake4 breakaway systems. Additionally, the RVibrake3 must be running firmware version 65 or higher. If your RVibrake3 has firmware lower than version 65, the BWA will not be compatible. Contact RVi Support at 800-815-2159 for firmware upgrade assistance.
No. The BWA 52205 will function without pairing to either system. Pairing to a Command Center tablet and hub or Bullseye Wireless Monitor is optional and allows you to monitor the breakaway system remotely. If you do not have either system, you can skip the pairing steps and the BWA will still operate.
The BWA 52205 includes: one Breakaway Wireless Adapter unit, three wire ties, and two mounting screws. These components are used to mount the BWA near the towed vehicle's battery and secure the wiring.
Safety glasses must be worn at all times while installing the BWA 52205.
Mount the BWA near the towed vehicle's battery in a location that allows you to easily route the duplex wire to the vehicle battery terminals. You can mount the BWA along the inner fender using the provided screws, or on a wire loom using the provided wire ties.
1. Remove the nut on the positive battery terminal, place the RED ring terminal over the bolt, and re-tighten the nut. 2. Remove the nut on the negative battery terminal, place the BLUE ring terminal over the bolt, and re-tighten the nut. This creates the electrical connection between the BWA and the vehicle's battery.
Once your RVibrake3 or RVibrake4 breakaway system is installed in the towed vehicle, plug the male plug of the Breakaway System into the port indicated on the BWA. If the breakaway system has not yet been installed, refer to the Breakaway System Installation Guide for installation steps before connecting it to the BWA.
Yes. The installation manual lists drilling and hole enlargement as required for this installation. However, the manual does not specify the exact hole size, location, or drilling procedure. Contact CURT customer service at 877-287-8634 or 800-815-2159 for detailed drilling instructions.
The BWA has two sets of LED indicators. Towed Battery LED States: Flashing Blue indicates above 12 volts, Flashing Yellow indicates 11-12 volts, Flashing Red indicates below 11 volts, and Solid Red indicates an error. Breakaway LED States: Green indicates the Breakaway is plugged in, connected to RVibrake3, and working with good signal strength; Yellow indicates low signal strength; Flashing Red indicates a Breakaway is detected.
If the towed vehicle's battery must be disconnected for towing, it is recommended to use a Towed Battery Disconnect. This is a safety recommendation to protect the vehicle's electrical system during towing.
Yes. The RVibrake Breakaway System is required by law to bring your towed vehicle to a stop in the event that the towed vehicle becomes completely detached from your motor home. Do not operate your RVibrake without a properly functioning Breakaway System.
Failure to connect the BWA according to the instructions may result in damage to your charge circuit or other electronics. CURT is not responsible for damage caused by improper connection.
When the Breakaway System is plugged into the BWA and the BWA is paired with RVibrake3, there will be a solid LED on the breakaway side of the BWA. If you do not see a solid LED, ensure that the Breakaway System's wiring has not been compromised.
Yes, the BWA 52205 is compatible with both RVibrake3 (firmware version 65 or higher) and RVibrake4 breakaway systems.
The BWA 52205 includes two mounting screws for mounting along the inner fender and three wire ties for mounting on a wire loom.
The installation is rated as Easy difficulty level. The manual does not require professional installation, though proper tools and familiarity with vehicle electrical systems are recommended.
Never exceed the vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity. The BWA 52205 does not change your vehicle's towing limits.
When the Breakaway System is plugged into the BWA and the BWA is paired with RVibrake3, there should be a solid LED on the breakaway side of the BWA. If there is no solid LED, ensure that the Breakaway System's wiring has not been compromised. Check all wire connections and verify the breakaway cable is fully inserted into the BWA port.
If the BWA's LED is not flashing rapidly, the BWA is asleep to save power. To wake it up, either start and shut off the engine of the towed vehicle, or pull the fuse out of the BWA and re-insert it. Once awake, the LED should flash blue.
Manually pair the BWA to the RVibrake3 using these steps: 1) Make sure BWA's blue LED is on and flashing. 2) Plug Breakaway male plug into BWA. 3) Hold down Auto Position button on RVibrake3 and plug it into power. 4) Once the Audio Prompt says 'Breakaway Pairing Mode,' release the button. 5) Unplug the Breakaway male plug from the BWA. 6) Re-insert the male plug into the BWA.
If the RVibrake3 is not powered and paired/connected to the BWA for an hour or more, the LED will stop flashing. This is normal power-saving behavior. To restore the LED, wake the BWA by starting and shutting off the towed vehicle's engine, or by pulling the fuse out of the BWA and re-inserting it.
