Towing your vehicle behind your RV is a great way to experience more of the adventure on your cross-country excursions. Whether you're towing a compact car or a full-size truck, CURT has the perfect solution to help you Bring It! CURT towed-vehicle RV harnesses are a vehicle-specific, plug-and-play solution to wiring your vehicle for dinghy towing. They use original-equipment-compatible connectors to plug into your vehicle's wiring system without any cutting, splicing or soldering required. They provide a standard 4-way flat connector to plug into the RV socket and synchronize the vehicle's tail lights, turn signals and brake lights with the RV's. Because each towed-vehicle RV harness has a vehicle-specific design, installation is fast and easy. This particular RV dinghy towing wiring harness is designed for specific years of the Jeep Compass. CURT RV harnesses are also built to provide long-lasting operation. They feature integrated block diodes that protect the vehicle's circuits from the RV signals. They isolate the sensitive vehicle electronics, keeping them from overheating and short circuiting. Every CURT towed-vehicle RV harness comes ready to install with all necessary hardware included. They also come with a 4-way flat extension to provide plenty of length to plug into the RV socket, as well as a connector mounting bracket to mount the connector on the vehicle.

The CURT 58938 Custom Towed-Vehicle RV Wiring Harness for Dinghy Towing, Fits Select Jeep Compass (Part #BKDK58938) Refer to the included instructions for installation details. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
Yes, the Curt 58938 RV TOW Harness is designed to fit the Jeep Compass. The kit includes a wiring harness with 4-flat connector, 48" 4-flat extension, cable ties, and a 4-flat bracket for mounting.
The kit includes: (1) wiring harness with 4-flat connector, (1) 48" 4-flat extension, (20) 15" cable ties, (1) 4-flat bracket, and (3) #8 self-tapping ground screws.
You will need: a flat screwdriver (for removing taillight push clips and trim plate clip), pliers (for trim plate removal), a 7mm socket (for removing wheel well bolts), a drill with a 3/32" bit (for ground screw and bracket mounting holes), and a fish tape (for routing the harness through the bumper channel and wheel well). The manual does not specify whether fish tape is included.
The manual does not specify whether battery disconnection is required. Consult the manufacturer or a professional installer for this safety requirement.
Open the tailgate and use a flat screwdriver to remove the two push clips that hold both taillight assemblies to the vehicle (Figure 1). Gently pull the taillight away from the vehicle to access the factory wiring harness connectors.
Locate the vehicle's factory wiring harness connectors on the taillight assembly. Slide the red connector lock and separate the connectors. Inspect them for dirt and debris and clean if necessary. Starting on the driver's side, position the RV harness with connectors containing yellow wires between the separated vehicle harness connectors. Press the connectors firmly into the vehicle connectors until they lock into place, then pull on them to ensure the locks are engaged. Repeat on the passenger side.
Locate a clean and accessible mounting location on the vehicle near the RV harness ends, within reach of the white wire and ring terminal. Remove any debris or undercoating to expose a clean metal surface, then drill a 3/32" hole. Caution: take care not to drill through the body or any exposed surface.
Yes, drilling is required. You must drill one 3/32" hole for the ground screw attachment and two 3/32" holes for the 4-flat bracket mounting on the front frame rail. Caution: take care not to drill through the body or any exposed surface.
Attach the ring terminal on the white wire using one of the #8 self-tapping ground screws provided. The ground screw should be installed in the 3/32" hole you drilled in a clean metal surface near the RV harness ends.
Remove the 2 bolts on the driver's rear wheel well using a 7mm socket. Route a fish tape up and over the wheel well and secure the 4-flat connector to the end. Pull the 4-flat through the wheel well. Then route the 4-flat on the inside of the trim plate along the driver side to the front wheel well area and secure it with cable ties.
Route the 4-flat connector to the front frame rail that goes across the front of the vehicle. Locate a suitable position to mount the 4-flat bracket. Using the bracket as a template, mark the two holes and drill two 3/32" holes. Attach the bracket using the two remaining #8 self-tapping screws. Caution: take care not to drill through the body or any exposed surface.
The 4-flat harness color code is: White = Ground, Brown = Tail Lights, Green = Right Turn and Brake Signal, Yellow = Left Turn and Brake Signal.
With the 4-flat extension plugged into the RV harness on one end and the motorhome on the other, test that the functions work on the Jeep Compass. Note that these functions will only work on the brake/tail combination lamp.
The RV harness controls brake/tail combination lamp functions on the Jeep Compass. The 4-flat connector provides: tail lights (brown wire), right turn and brake signal (green wire), and left turn and brake signal (yellow wire). Ground is provided by the white wire.
Store the 4-flat extension in the vehicle's glove box when not in use.
The Curt 58938 RV harness is designed for RV use. If you want to tow a trailer while leaving the RV harness on the vehicle, you must plug in the 4-flat harness part number 58920 (T-Connector Converter add-on). This allows you to use the vehicle for both RV and trailer towing.
At the rear of the vehicle, secure any loose wires to the vehicle's crossmember using the cable ties provided in the kit. Then reinstall the taillights to the vehicle.
Yes. Locate the clip on the trim plate located near the driver's door and remove it using a screwdriver and pliers. Then route the 4-flat connector on the inside of the trim plate along the driver side to the front wheel well area.

You will need a flat screwdriver, pliers, a 7mm socket, a drill with 3/32" bit, and a fish tape for routing the harness.
