Towing your vehicle behind your RV is a great way to experience more of the adventure on your cross-country excursions. Whether you're towing a compact car or a full-size truck, CURT has the perfect solution to help you Bring It! CURT towed-vehicle RV harnesses are a vehicle-specific, plug-and-play solution to wiring your vehicle for dinghy towing. They use original-equipment-compatible connectors to plug into your vehicle's wiring system without any cutting, splicing or soldering required. They provide a standard 4-way flat connector to plug into the RV socket and synchronize the vehicle's tail lights, turn signals and brake lights with the RV's. Because each towed-vehicle RV harness has a vehicle-specific design, installation is fast and easy. This particular RV dinghy towing wiring harness is designed for specific years of the Jeep Cherokee (see application info to verify fitment). CURT RV harnesses are also built to provide long-lasting operation. They feature integrated block diodes that protect the vehicle's circuits from the RV signals. They isolate the sensitive vehicle electronics, keeping them from overheating and short circuiting. Every CURT towed-vehicle RV harness comes ready to install with all necessary hardware included. They also come with a 4-way flat extension to provide plenty of length to plug into the RV socket, as well as a connector mounting bracket to mount the connector on the vehicle.

The CURT 58963 RV Wiring Harness Add-On is designed for SUVs and Vans. The manual does not list specific vehicle models or years. Contact CURT or consult a fitment database for your exact vehicle.
The CURT 58963 allows your RV harness to also act as a trailer light harness. It enables your vehicle's taillights to function along with taillights on a towing vehicle when connected via a 4-flat connector.
Required tools: 1/4" socket, 10 mm socket, 13 mm socket, T-27 Torx bit, ratchet, socket extension, fish wire, electrical tape, and an abrasive pad or paper. Proper tools will improve installation quality and reduce time required.
Yes. Step 1 requires you to locate the vehicle battery in your owner's manual, then disconnect the negative battery terminal. Fasten this wire down and away from the battery. Reconnect it after all other installation steps are complete.
The manual rates installation difficulty as Moderate. No professional installation is explicitly required, but you must follow all steps carefully. The manual recommends reading all instructions thoroughly before beginning.
Open the rear door. Use a T-27 Torx bit to loosen the two screws securing each taillight. Remove the taillight by pulling straight back. Separate the connectors carefully, taking care not to damage the locking tabs. Repeat on both sides of the vehicle.
Fish wire is used to push or pull electrical wire through blind holes. Make sure it is long enough to stick out on the other side. Insert it through the blind hole and locate it on the other side. Use tape to secure the harness to the fish wire and pull back up. If the wire gets hung up, push back down, wiggle it around, or twist it to loosen it. Fish wire can be a cut-up wire hanger, stiff wire, rope or string depending on what is needed.
Starting on the driver side, run a fish wire down between the body and the bumper cover. From under the vehicle, locate the side of the custom RV harness with the yellow wire. Attach the yellow wire to the fish wire and pull the harness up to the factory harness.
Once you reach the taillight opening, insert the custom wiring harness into the factory wiring. Make sure the connectors are fully inserted with the locking tabs in place. Install the taillight back into the taillight housing.
From under the vehicle, route the harness with the green wire along the backside of the bumper to the passenger side of the vehicle. Secure any loose wires with the provided cable ties. Repeat the fish wire process (Steps 3 and 4) with the green wire of the harness.
You may need to drill a 3/32" pilot hole for the ground screw, but only if no existing screw or bolt is available near the box as a grounding point. Locate a grounding point in the frame of the vehicle. The area should be free from rust, dirt, and paint—use an abrasive pad or paper to clean it. Secure the white ground wire with the ring terminal on the existing fastener or with the provided ground screw.
Before drilling, check for miscellaneous items that may be hidden behind or under any surface to avoid damage and personal injury.
Route the 4-flat wire in between the rear drive line mounts and the body, securing with zip ties and keeping it away from hot spots, pinch points or moving objects. Remove the four 10 mm bolts, one 10 mm nut, and one 13 mm bolt from the plastic skid plate. Route the 4-flat wire under the skid plate and along the brake lines until you reach the rear of the front tire, using provided zip ties to secure loose wire.
From the driver-side engine compartment, use fish wire between the inner fender and exterior fender to route the 4-flat up to the engine compartment. Locate the end of the fish wire just behind the inner fender/wheel well, attach it to the fish wire and pull to the top side of the engine compartment. Route the 4-flat along the driver side outer fender under the two fender mounts. Route it under the plastic shroud covering the driver-side front headlights. Mount to the front core support between the windshield washer fluid reservoir and the coolant reservoir.
Secure any excess wire so that it is not drooping or dangling, but not so tight that it causes unnecessary strain to the wire which could lead to breakage over time. After removing slack from the 4-flat wire, tighten any zip ties and add as needed. Use a zip tie to fasten any excess wire to a solid spot along the driver-side inner fender.
Verify that the harness is functioning by attaching the 4-flat to any vehicle with functioning trailer lights. The taillights on the tow vehicle should function along with the taillights on the towing vehicle. You can also use a test light to check for proper function.
Reinstall all items removed during installation. If the negative battery terminal was disconnected at the beginning, reconnect it. Install the provided 4-flat dust cover to help prevent corrosion.
Periodic inspection of all wires and connections should be performed to ensure there is no visible damage or loose connections.
Do not exceed the product rating or tow vehicle lamp load rating, whichever is lower. The manual does not specify the exact product rating. Contact CURT for the specific rating.
The manual identifies 10 wiring locations (S1–S10) for SUVs and Vans: S1 behind driver side taillight housing, S2 behind passenger side taillight housing, S3 behind driver side rear access panel, S4 behind passenger side rear access panel, S5 behind driver side rear bumper, S6 behind center of rear bumper, S7 behind passenger side rear bumper, S8 under rear floor panel, S9 behind driver side rear access panel, and S10 behind passenger side rear access panel. This installation uses locations S1 and S2.
The installation is rated as Moderate difficulty. The manual recommends reading all instructions thoroughly before beginning and notes that proper tools will improve installation quality and reduce time required.
Before drilling, check for miscellaneous items hidden behind or under surfaces to avoid damage and personal injury. Keep wiring away from hot spots, pinch points or moving objects. Do not secure wires so tightly that it causes unnecessary strain, which could lead to breakage. Do not exceed the product rating or tow vehicle lamp load rating, whichever is lower.
