The kit includes: (1) Wiring Harness with 4-Flat Connector, (1) 48" 4-Flat Extension, (20) 15" Cable Ties, (1) 4-Flat Bracket, and (3) #8 Self-Tapping Ground Screws.
You will need a Torx T-20 screwdriver to remove the taillight assemblies, a drill with a 3/32" bit to create mounting holes, and a fish tape or stiff wire to route the harness through the vehicle. All fasteners and cable ties are included in the kit.
It may be necessary to remove the spare tire during installation. The caution in the manual states to avoid routing the RV harness on the spare tire, as it may interfere with the installation process.
Open the rear tailgate and use a Torx T-20 screwdriver to remove the screws holding both taillight assemblies. Gently pull the taillights away and locate the factory wiring harness connectors. Separate the connectors. Starting on the driver's side, position the RV harness with connectors containing Yellow wires between the separated vehicle harness connectors. Press the connectors firmly into the vehicle connectors until they lock, then pull on them to ensure the locks are engaged. Repeat this process on the passenger side with the T-Connector ends containing Green wire.
Locate a clean and accessible mounting location on the vehicle near the RV harness ends within reach of the white wire and ring terminal. Remove any debris or undercoating to expose clean metal, then drill a 3/32" hole. Attach the ring terminal on the white wire using the ground screw provided.
Cut the cable ties on the 4-Flat portion of the harness. Route the remaining portion with T-Connector ends containing the Green wire through the opening behind the taillight on the driver's side. Route the T-Connector ends to the passenger side along the rear frame rail, securing with cable ties. Use a fish tape or stiff wire to route the T-Connector ends up through the passenger side opening into the taillight cavity. On the driver's side, route the 4-Flat portion down through the taillight opening, along the frame to the brake lines, then forward along the brake lines and driver's side frame, following the factory wiring harness up through the engine compartment.
You need to drill two 3/32" holes: one for the ground wire ring terminal near the RV harness ends (Step 4), and two holes in front of the air filter on the frame to mount the bracket (Step 11). Take care not to drill through the vehicle body or any exposed surface.
Locate the area in front of the air filter on the frame. Using the bracket as a template, mark the two holes and drill two 3/32" holes. Attach the bracket using the two remaining #8 Self-Tapping Ground Screws.
Avoid areas that contain moving parts or could cut, pinch, or burn the wires. Do not route the harness near fuel lines, as this may cause fuel to ignite. Failure to follow these warnings may cause property damage, personal injury, or loss of life.
White = Ground, Brown = Tail Lights, Green = Right Turn and Brake Signal, Yellow = Left Turn and Brake Signal.
With the 4-Flat extension plugged into the RV harness on one end and the motorhome on the other, test that the functions work on the Jeep Grand Cherokee. These functions will only work on the brake/tail combination lamp.
Yes. The RV harness includes a connection point labeled 'FOR TRAILER TOW USE ONLY: 4-FLAT HARNESS REQUIRED.' If you decide to leave your RV harness on the vehicle at all times and want to tow a trailer, simply plug in the 4-Flat harness.
