Towing your vehicle behind your RV is a great way to experience more of the adventure on your cross-country excursions. Whether you're towing a compact car or a full-size truck, CURT has the perfect solution to help you Bring It! CURT towed-vehicle RV harnesses are a vehicle-specific, plug-and-play solution to wiring your vehicle for dinghy towing. They use original-equipment-compatible connectors to plug into your vehicle's wiring system without any cutting, splicing or soldering required. They provide a standard 4-way flat connector to plug into the RV socket and synchronize the vehicle's tail lights, turn signals and brake lights with the RV's. Because each towed-vehicle RV harness has a vehicle-specific design, installation is fast and easy. This particular RV dinghy towing wiring harness is designed for specific years of the Subaru XV Crosstrek. CURT RV harnesses are also built to provide long-lasting operation. They feature integrated block diodes that protect the vehicle's circuits from the RV signals. They isolate the sensitive vehicle electronics, keeping them from overheating and short circuiting. Every CURT towed-vehicle RV harness comes ready to install with all necessary hardware included. They also come with a 4-way flat extension to provide plenty of length to plug into the RV socket, as well as a connector mounting bracket to mount the connector on the vehicle.

CURT offers a variety of high-quality trailer hitches and accessories for select vehicle models. Find the perfect fit for your towing needs at TowUniverse.

Yes, the CURT 58962 Custom Towed-Vehicle RV Wiring Harness for Dinghy Towing, Fits Select Subaru XV Crosstrek (Part #BKDK58962) is designed to fit the 2013-2015 Subaru XV Crosstrek.
The CURT 58962 Custom Towed-Vehicle RV Wiring Harness for Dinghy Towing, Fits Select Subaru XV Crosstrek (Part #BKDK58962) fits 2013-2015 Subaru XV Crosstrek models. The 2015 model year is the last year covered by this part number. For newer models, check for an updated version.
The CURT 58962 Custom Towed-Vehicle RV Wiring Harness for Dinghy Towing, Fits Select Subaru XV Crosstrek (Part #BKDK58962) Refer to the included instructions for installation details. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
Part number 58962 fits Subaru XV Crosstrek models with manual transmission, excluding Hybrid versions. If your vehicle has an automatic transmission or is a Hybrid model, this harness is not compatible.
The Curt 58962 is an RV harness wiring kit that allows you to connect your towed RV to your tow vehicle's lighting system. It provides connections for turn signals, brake lights, and running lights on the RV using a 4-flat connector.
You will need: ratchet, ratchet extension, 10mm socket, 12mm socket, 1/4" socket, panel trim removal tool, 3/32" drill bit, T-30 Torx bit, Phillips screwdriver, flat blade screwdriver, cutting tool, and fish wire.
Yes, drilling is required in two locations. You must drill a 3/32" pilot hole near the taillight connector for the ground wire screw (Step 7), and drill two 3/32" holes to mount the 4-flat bracket at the front of the vehicle (Step 11). Before drilling, check for hidden items behind or under surfaces to avoid damage and personal injury.
You need a 3/32" drill bit. This size is used for both the ground wire screw pilot hole near the taillight (Step 7) and the two mounting holes for the 4-flat bracket at the front of the vehicle (Step 11).
The 4-flat harness uses four wires with these functions: White = Ground; Green = Right Turn / Brake; Brown = Taillights; Yellow = Left Turn / Brake.
The battery connection must be fuse-protected with a maximum 10-amp fuse. Exceeding this rating can cause loss of warranty, overheating, and potential fire. Do not exceed the product rating or tow vehicle lamp load rating, whichever is lower.
Signal circuits are rated for 6.0 amps per side. Tail and running circuits are rated for 6.0 amps total.
Route the trailer-side 4-flat along the underside of the vehicle following the brake lines from the rear to the front. Some trim cover panels may need to be removed. Secure the harness with cable ties along the way. Avoid areas with moving parts or sharp edges that could cut, pinch, or burn the wires. At the front, use a fish wire routed down and over the top of the driver-side wheel well to pull the 4-flat up into the engine compartment.
Mount the trailer-end 4-flat bracket at a suitable flat position in the engine compartment. Use the bracket as a template to mark two drill locations, drill two 3/32" holes, and attach the bracket using the two provided screws.
Remove the taillight by removing two fasteners and gently pushing it rearward. Separate the vehicle taillight connectors from the housing, taking care not to damage the locking tabs. Insert the RV harness end with yellow and brown wires between the separated vehicle and taillight connectors. Make sure the connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place, then reinstall the taillight.
Locate a suitable grounding point near the taillight connector, such as an existing screw with nut in the vehicle frame. If no suitable point exists, drill a 3/32" pilot hole. The area should be free of rust, dirt, and paint. Secure the white ground wire using the ring terminal and provided screw.
With the 4-flat extension plugged into the RV harness on one end and the RV on the other, perform a function test. These functions will only work on the brake/taillight combination lamp. Test all turn signals, brake lights, and running lights to ensure proper operation before using the system.
Yes, the manual notes that the RV harness can be left installed on the vehicle at all times. If you later decide to tow a trailer instead of an RV, you can plug in the 4-flat harness converter (part number 58920, sold separately) and you are ready to tow.
The Curt 58920 is a trailer tow converter. If you leave the RV harness installed on your vehicle and later want to tow a trailer, you plug the 4-flat harness converter (58920, sold separately) into the RV harness connection point labeled 'FOR TRAILER TOW USE ONLY: CONVERTER #58920 REQUIRED' and you are ready to tow.
Before drilling, check for miscellaneous items that may be hidden behind or under any surface to avoid damage and personal injury. This applies to both the 3/32" pilot hole for the ground wire screw and the two 3/32" holes for the 4-flat bracket.
Avoid routing the 4-flat harness through areas that contain moving parts or could cut, pinch, or burn the wires. Failure to follow these warnings may cause property damage, personal injury, or loss of life. Secure the harness with cable ties along the brake lines and other routing points.
When not in use, store the 4-flat extension in the vehicle. After installation, install the provided 4-flat dust cover to help prevent corrosion.
Yes, if it has a manual transmission and is not a Hybrid model. The 58962 is designed specifically for Subaru XV Crosstrek with manual transmission, excluding Hybrid versions.
