Towing your vehicle behind your RV is a great way to experience more of the adventure on your cross-country excursions. Whether you're towing a compact car or a full-size truck, CURT has the perfect solution to help you Bring It! CURT towed-vehicle RV harnesses are a vehicle-specific, plug-and-play solution to wiring your vehicle for dinghy towing. They use original-equipment-compatible connectors to plug into your vehicle's wiring system without any cutting, splicing or soldering required. They provide a standard 4-way flat connector to plug into the RV socket and synchronize the vehicle's tail lights, turn signals and brake lights with the RV's. Because each towed-vehicle RV harness has a vehicle-specific design, installation is fast and easy. This particular RV dinghy towing wiring harness is designed for specific years of the Ram or Dodge Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500. CURT RV harnesses are also built to provide long-lasting operation. They feature integrated block diodes that protect the vehicle's circuits from the RV signals. They isolate the sensitive vehicle electronics, keeping them from overheating and short circuiting. Every CURT towed-vehicle RV harness comes ready to install with all necessary hardware included. They also come with a 4-way flat extension to provide plenty of length to plug into the RV socket, as well as a connector mounting bracket to mount the connector on the vehicle.

The CURT Custom Towed-Vehicle RV Wiring Harness, Select Dodge, Ram 1500, 2500, 3500 Trailer Connector Kit (Part #BKDK58916) Refer to the included instructions for installation details. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
Yes, the Curt 58916 is designed to fit Dodge RAM 1500 and RAM 1500 models. However, it is not compatible with vehicles equipped with LED taillights. Verify your vehicle does not have LED taillights before purchasing.
No. The Curt 58916 is explicitly not compatible with LED taillights. It is designed for vehicles with standard brake/tail combination lamps only.
You will need: a Torx T20 screwdriver (to remove taillight screws), an 8mm socket (to remove the driver's side wheel well bolt), a drill with a 3/32" bit (to drill two mounting holes), and a fish tape or stiff wire (to route the harness through the wheel well). A clean work surface and access to the vehicle's frame and taillight cavities are also required.
The kit includes: (1) wiring harness with 4-Flat connector, (1) 48" 4-Flat extension, (20) 15" cable ties, (1) 4-Flat bracket, and (3) #8 self-tapping ground screws.
The manual does not specify whether the battery must be disconnected. Contact the manufacturer or consult a qualified installer for guidance on this safety requirement.
Open the rear tailgate and use a Torx T20 screwdriver to remove the screws holding both taillight assemblies. Unplug the connectors and clean them if necessary. Position the RV harness connectors (containing yellow wires) between the separated vehicle harness connectors. Press the connectors firmly into place until they lock, then pull on them to confirm the locks are engaged.
Locate a clean and accessible mounting location on the vehicle near the RV harness ends, within reach of the white wire and ring terminal. Remove any debris or undercoating to expose clean metal, then drill a 3/32" hole. Attach the ring terminal on the white wire using one of the #8 self-tapping ground screws provided.
After connecting the taillight connectors, cut the cable ties on the 4-Flat portion and route the harness with T-Connector ends (containing green wire) through the opening behind the taillight. Route this portion along the rear frame rail to the passenger side, securing it to the factory wire harness with cable ties. Use a fish tape or stiff wire to route the T-Connector ends up through the passenger side opening into the taillight cavity, then repeat the taillight connector connection on the passenger side. On the driver's side, route the 4-Flat portion along the factory harness on the frame rail toward the front of the vehicle, securing it with cable ties up to the driver's side front wheel well.
When routing the 4-Flat harness toward the front of the vehicle, avoid areas containing moving parts, pinch points, or areas that could cut or burn the wires. Do not route the harness near fuel lines, as this may cause fuel to ignite. Failure to follow these warnings may cause property damage, personal injury, or loss of life.
Using an 8mm socket, remove the bolt on the driver's side wheel well area. Starting at the left side of the driver's side wheel well, route a fish tape up and over to the right side. Secure the 4-Flat connector to the fish tape and pull it through the wheel well cover.
Locate the front frame rail that runs across the front of the vehicle. Position the 4-Flat bracket on a suitable location on this frame rail. Using the bracket as a template, mark the two holes, drill two 3/32" holes, and attach the bracket using the two remaining #8 self-tapping screws provided.
Yes. You must drill two 3/32" holes: one near the RV harness ends for the ground screw (Step 4), and two holes on the front frame rail for the 4-Flat bracket (Step 11). Take care not to drill through the vehicle body or any exposed surfaces.
Drill two 3/32" holes: one for the ground screw mounting location near the RV harness ends, and two 3/32" holes on the front frame rail for the 4-Flat bracket.
The 4-Flat harness uses the following color code: White = Ground, Brown = Tail Lights, Green = Right Turn and Brake Signal, Yellow = Left Turn and Brake Signal.
With the 4-Flat extension plugged into the RV harness on one end and the motorhome on the other, test that the functions work on the Dodge RAM 1500. These functions will only work on the brake/tail combination lamp.
The harness supports brake/tail combination lamp functions only. It provides connections for tail lights, right turn and brake signals, and left turn and brake signals.
Take care not to drill through the vehicle body or any exposed surfaces. When routing the harness, avoid areas containing moving parts, pinch points, or areas that could cut or burn the wires. Do not route the harness near fuel lines, as this may cause fuel to ignite. Failure to follow these warnings may cause property damage, personal injury, or loss of life.
After testing the harness functions, secure any loose wires to the vehicle's crossmember using the cable ties provided. Reinstall the taillights to the vehicle. When not in use, store the 4-Flat extension in the vehicle's glove box.
No. The Curt 58916 is not compatible with LED taillights. It works only with standard brake/tail combination lamps.
Torx T20 screwdriver, 8mm socket, drill with 3/32" bit, and fish tape or stiff wire. You will also need to drill two 3/32" holes.
The manual does not specify whether professional installation is required. Contact the manufacturer or a qualified installer for guidance.
