The CURT OEM puck system 5th wheel adapter for Ram pickups combines the functionality of CURT 5th wheel puck system products with the strength and convenience of the truck bed puck system. The adapter provides a set of industry-standard 5th wheel rails to securely mount a CURT 5th wheel hitch or roller into the bed of your truck. It is designed to fit select model years of the Ram 2500 and 3500 (see application info to verify fitment). It features a set of adjustable, quarter-turn anchors to quickly and easily drop into the pucks and provide a moveable platform for the 5th wheel coupling point. This puck system adapter requires a specific puck system for installation (year range specific). It features a capacity of 25,000 lbs. and is compatible with all CURT 5th wheel legs and rollers (weight capacities are limited to the lowest-rated towing component). Like our other OEM puck system 5th wheel products, the key feature of the 5th wheel puck system adapter is its quarter-turn anchors. With the hitch initially bolted onto the adapter, the adapter can easily be dropped into place whenever needed and secured with the quarter-turn anchors. The anchors can also be adjusted to help eliminate chucking noises between the adapter and under-bed platform while towing. When you are finished towing, simply turn the anchors to remove the entire assembly within seconds. The CURT 5th wheel adapter for select Ram pickup trucks provides the ultimate in versatility for the CURT 5th wheel line. It tested for safety in accordance with SAE J2638 and is coated in a highly durable carbide black powder coat finish to protect against scratches and rust.

The CURT Puck System 5th Wheel Adapter with Rails, Select Ram 2500, 3500 Fifth Wheel Trailer Hitch (Part #BKDK16042) Refer to the included instructions for installation details. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
Yes. The 16042 mounts into puck mounts in the truck bed. You must remove puck caps if present before installation. The manual does not specify whether factory puck mounts are standard equipment or require pre-installation.
You need a ratchet, socket set, and torque wrench. The manual notes that proper tools will improve installation quality and reduce time required.
All M12 carriage bolts and flange nuts must be torqued to 65 ft-lbs. This is the standard torque setting unless otherwise noted in the instructions.
The 16042 has a gross trailer weight (GTW) capacity of 25,000 lbs. and a vertical load capacity of 6,250 lbs. Never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity.
Do not position hands, body parts or clothing between the truck and trailer. Never position yourself or others under the trailer's kingpin area during coupling and uncoupling, as improperly coupled trailers can separate and drop without notice. Never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's towing capacity.
No. Slight resistance should be felt as handles rotate closed, but forcing them may damage the locking bolt and handle, risking trailer detachment. If handles will not close with moderate pressure, adjust the T-bolt instead.
The package includes 2 cross support tubes, 8 M12 carriage bolts, 8 M12 flange nuts, and 2 cross support assemblies. All hardware needed for installation is provided.
The manual does not address installation on trucks without factory puck mounts. Contact CURT Product Support at 877.287.8634 to confirm whether the 16042 can be adapted to your truck or whether a different hitch model is required.
1. Remove puck caps from truck bed if present. 2. Remove lynch pins and swing open all four handles of the cross support assembly. 3. Mount each cross support assembly into the pucks in the truck bed. 4. Align mounting holes on cross support tubes with holes in the cross support. 5. Secure using eight M12 carriage bolts and flange nuts, torqued to 65 ft-lbs. 6. Rotate handles to closed position and secure with safety pins. 7. Confirm both locking bolts are engaged and castle nuts are secured with cotter pins.
If one or more locking handles will not close with moderate pressure: 1. Remove the cotter pin securing the castle nut above the handle. 2. Loosen the castle nut 1/4-turn while pressing down on the T-bolt. 3. Attempt to close the handle. 4. If it closes, re-secure the castle nut with the cotter pin. 5. If it does not close, repeat steps 2–3 until the handle closes smoothly. Do not force the handle, as this may damage the locking bolt.
Slight resistance is normal and expected when rotating the handles to the closed position. This indicates the locking mechanism is engaging properly. However, if you encounter more than moderate resistance, do not force the handles closed. Instead, adjust the T-bolts as described in the manual.
Confirm that: 1. Both locking bolts are engaged in the truck bed puck mounts. 2. Castle nuts are secured with cotter pins. 3. Both handles are securely locked with safety pins. 4. All M12 hardware has been torqued to 65 ft-lbs. 5. Handles close with only slight resistance and no forcing is required.
Wax the hitch after installing to protect the finish. Regular waxing is recommended to add a protective layer. Use only mild automotive detergent to clean it. Do not use dish detergent, abrasive cleaners, abrasive pads, wire brushes or similar products, as these may damage the finish. Do not use polish or wax containing abrasives.
Provide the entire installation manual to the end-user and fully instruct and demonstrate the operation of the 5th wheel hitch. Emphasize the importance of observing all warnings, including those on the hitch mid section. Ensure they understand the dangers of positioning themselves or others under the trailer's kingpin area during coupling and uncoupling.
