CURT OEM puck system 5th wheel legs allow for faster, easier and more secure installation of your CURT 5th wheel hitch. They utilize the truck bed mounting platform, called the puck system, built into certain pickups today with the towing prep package. Using a set of anchors, the legs quickly and easily drop into the pucks, instantly equipping the truck for 5th wheel towing. This set of 5th wheel legs is designed to fit the puck system in select model years of the Ram 2500 and 3500 with 8-foot bed (see application info to verify fitment). With a gross trailer weight capacity of 30,000 lbs., the legs are compatible with all CURT 25K and 30K 5th wheel hitches (weight capacities are limited to the lowest-rated towing component). The most unique feature of CURT OEM puck system 5th wheel legs is their quarter-turn anchoring system. This system is the key to streamlined 5th wheel towing. With the hitch head initially bolted onto the legs, the legs can quickly be installed or removed from the truck bed as needed, simply by turning the anchor handles. The quarter-turn anchors supply the necessary strength for towing heavy-duty 5th wheel trailers, and they feature an adjustable design to perfectly lock the hitch into place and eliminate any chucking noises. To give you confidence in every job you undertake with your truck, we give our OEM puck system 5th wheel legs a durable A-coat and dark grey teridium finish. This makes them highly resistant to scratches, rust and UV damage. We also back our 5th wheel legs with a limited lifetime warranty to put your mind at ease with every new mile.

The CURT Puck System 5th Wheel Legs, Select Ram 2500, 3500, 8' Bed, 30K Fifth Wheel Trailer Hitch Mount Leg (Part #BKDK16028) Refer to the included instructions for installation details. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
The CURT 16028 has a gross trailer weight (GTW) capacity of 30,000 lbs and a vertical load capacity of 7,000 lbs. Never exceed these limits with your trailer and contents combined.
The CURT 16028 legs are compatible with 30K 5th wheel heads. Confirm your 5th wheel head is rated for 30,000 lbs before assembly.
The CURT 16028 legs are designed to fit truck beds with appropriate mounting holes. The large locking feet on the legs match the large rear mounts in the truck bed. You must select mounting holes that allow sufficient clearance between the 5th wheel trailer and the sides of the tow vehicle. Verify your truck bed has the required mounting holes before purchase.
You will need a torque wrench and socket set. Proper tools will improve the quality of installation and reduce the time required.
The CURT 16028 includes: one passenger side leg assembly, one driver side leg assembly, one cross support weldment, four M14 x 75 hex bolts (Class 8.8), four M14 flat washers, and four M14 nylock nuts. The M14 bolts, washers, and nylock nuts are provided with the 5th wheel head unit.
No, removal is optional. The manual notes that for easier installation, the pin and head can be removed while installing into the truck bed, but this is not required. You can install the legs with the head in place if preferred.
Before installation: (1) Block all trailer tires in front and behind with appropriate wheel chocks—do not use stones, wood blocks, or substitutes. (2) Ensure front trailer lifting jacks are supporting the trailer and resting on a firm and level surface. (3) Keep the towing vehicle stationary with automatic transmission in park (manual in neutral), emergency brake applied, and engine off. (4) Do not place any part of your body under the trailer or between the truck and trailer without these precautions in place.
Position the leg assembly with the operating instruction label on the driver side of the tow vehicle. The other leg assembly goes on the passenger side.
1. Locate the hardware package with four M14 hex bolts and flat washers. 2. Select mounting holes that allow sufficient clearance between the trailer and truck sides. 3. Assemble the legs to the 5th wheel head using the M14 bolts and washers through the selected mounting holes. 4. Loosely secure with the M14 nylock nuts. 5. Attach the cross support weldment between the two leg assemblies using the M14 hex bolts and flat washers, leaving them loose. 6. Swing all four handles completely open and lower the legs into position in the truck bed. 7. Ensure all four locking bolts and spacers drop into the mounting holes before closing the handles.
Torque all eight M14 bolts to 100 ft-lbs. This should be done after the legs are positioned in the truck bed and all locking bolts and spacers are engaged in the mounting holes.
After torquing the bolts and positioning the legs in the truck bed mounts: (1) Rotate the handles back to the closed position. (2) Secure the handles by re-inserting all four lynch pins. (3) Confirm all four locking bolts are engaged in the truck bed mounts and the castle nuts are secured with cotter pins. (4) Double-check that all four handles are securely locked with the lynch pins. Slight resistance should be felt as the handles are rotated closed.
If a handle will not close with moderate pressure, the T-bolt must be adjusted. Do not force the handle closed, as this may damage the locking bolt and handle and result in trailer detachment. To adjust: (1) Remove the cotter pin securing the castle nut above the handle. (2) Loosen the castle nut 1/4-turn while pressing down on the T-bolt. (3) Reattempt to close the handle. (4) If it closes, re-secure the castle nut with the cotter pin. (5) If it does not close, repeat the loosening process in 1/4-turn increments until the handle closes.
After installation, confirm that: (1) All four locking bolts are engaged in the truck bed mounts. (2) The castle nuts are secured with cotter pins. (3) All four handles are securely locked with lynch pins. (4) All hardware and components remain secure. Periodic inspection should be performed to ensure all hardware and components remain secure during use.
Before towing: (1) Ensure all components and hardware are structurally sound and secure. (2) Always ensure lynch pins are installed through the handle and center pivot pin. (3) Always keep hands clear of the 5th wheel jaws when operating the handle. (4) Always perform a pull test prior to towing. (5) Never position anyone under the trailer's kingpin area during coupling and uncoupling. (6) Never exceed the towing capacity of any towing system component or your vehicle.
Periodic inspection of your product should be performed to ensure all hardware and components remain secure. The manual does not specify exact intervals, but regular checks are essential for safe operation.
The CURT 16028 is compatible with 30K 5th wheel heads and truck beds with appropriate mounting holes. Verify your truck bed has the required mounting holes and that your 5th wheel head is rated for 30,000 lbs before purchase.
