CURT OEM puck system 5th wheel legs allow for faster, easier and more secure installation of your CURT 5th wheel hitch. They utilize the truck bed mounting platform, called the puck system, built into certain pickups today with the towing prep package. Using a set of anchors, the legs quickly and easily drop into the pucks, instantly equipping the truck for 5th wheel towing. This set of 5th wheel legs is designed to fit select model years of the Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra 2500 HD and 3500 HD with 8-foot bed (see application info to verify fitment). With a gross trailer weight capacity of 30,000 lbs., the legs are compatible with the CURT A30 5th wheel hitch head #16590 (weight capacities are limited to the lowest-rated towing component). The most unique feature of CURT OEM puck system 5th wheel legs is their quarter-turn anchoring system. This system is the key to streamlined 5th wheel towing. With the hitch head initially bolted onto the legs, the legs can quickly be installed or removed from the truck bed as needed, simply by turning the anchor handles. The CURT 16024 has a gross trailer weight (GTW) capacity of 30,000 lbs. and a vertical load capacity of 7,500 lbs. Never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity, as this may result in separation, damage to the hitch, vehicle, trailer, and/or serious injury or death.
You will need a ratchet, a 21mm socket, and a torque wrench. The torque wrench is essential to properly tighten the M14 bolts to the specified 100 ft-lbs.
The kit includes 2 legs, 4 locking bolts, 2 left handles, 2 right handles, 4 flat washers, 4 castle nuts, 4 pucks, 2 safety pins (3/8" x 1-3/4"), and 4 cotter pins. The M14 bolts required to assemble the legs to the 5th wheel head are provided with the hitch.
The M14 bolts must be torqued to 100 ft-lbs. This specification applies to the bolts securing the legs to the 5th wheel head during installation.
Assemble the legs loosely to the 5th wheel head using the M14 hardware provided. Lower the assembly onto the factory mount position in the truck bed. Once in position, tighten the legs by torquing the bolts to 100 ft-lbs.
Remove the safety pin (#8) securing the lock handles in the closed position and open the handles 90°. Then remove all four cotter pins (#9) securing the castle nuts (#6). Loosen the castle nuts until a minimum of 1/8" clearance is achieved between the lock bolt (#2) and the bottom surface of the puck (#7).
Adjust the castle nuts tension until the locking bolt is snug when the handles are rotated to the lock position. The handles should close with moderate hand pressure only. Do not over-tighten the castle nuts, as forcing the handles to the closed position will strip the handles and result in hitch failure. Once adjusted properly, re-install the cotter pins and close all four locking handles, securing them with the provided safety pins.
Never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity. Do not expose hands, body parts, or clothing anywhere between the truck and trailer. Never position yourself or others under the trailer's kingpin area (the danger zone) during coupling and uncoupling, as improperly coupled trailers can separate and drop without notice.
Wax the product after installing to protect it. Regular waxing is recommended to add a protective layer over the finish. Do not use any type of polish or wax that may contain abrasives, as these could damage the finish. Clean the product with mild automotive detergent only. Do not use dish detergent, abrasive cleaners, abrasive pads, wire brushes, or similar products that may damage the finish.
