The CURT 60654 is a trailer ball assembly designed for use with gooseneck hitches. It features a round shank that inserts into the gooseneck cylinder and is secured with lock pins. The assembly includes a grease zerk for periodic lubrication and is rated for a gross trailer weight of 30,000 lbs and tongue weight of 7,500 lbs.
The CURT 60654 is designed for round-shank gooseneck hitches. However, it can be used with square-shank gooseneck hitches if shank adaptors (item #4, included) are installed and tightened to the specified torque. The adaptors allow the round shank of the ball assembly to function in a square-shank hitch.
The manual does not specify the ball size of the 60654. You must ensure the trailer ball size matches your trailer coupler to prevent the trailer from becoming uncoupled. Contact CURT Product Support at 877-287-8634 to confirm the ball size for your application.
You need a 4mm Allen key. This is the only tool listed as required for installation.
The kit includes: one trailer ball assembly, one gooseneck hitch cap, two shoulder bolts (M6 x 11, 12mm), two shank adaptors, and one carry case.
Disengage the lock pins and remove any existing ball or accessory from the gooseneck. The gooseneck will then be ready to receive the round shank of the 60654 ball assembly.
Insert the RockerBall assembly with the directional arrow pointing towards the front of the vehicle. If the arrow faces the rear, the performance of the RockerBall will be diminished. The round shank must be placed into the cylinder, and the lock pins must fully engage the shank and pass through the cylinder completely.
After inserting the round shank into the gooseneck cylinder with the directional arrow pointing toward the front of the vehicle, engage the lock pins. The pins must fully engage the round shank and pass through the cylinder completely. If using shank adaptors for a square-shank hitch, tighten the adaptor hardware to 6 ft-lbs (M6 bolt torque specification).
Tighten the shank adaptor hardware to 6 ft-lbs. This is the standard M6 bolt torque specification listed in the manual.
The CURT 60654 is rated for a gross trailer weight (GTW) of 30,000 lbs and a tongue weight (TW) of 7,500 lbs. Do not exceed these capacities.
Grease the trailer ball assembly prior to initial use and once every 3 months or 3,000 miles of use, whichever comes first. Use a high-quality molybdenum-based grease. Apply grease through the grease zerk located at the front of the RockerBall. The assembly is adequately lubricated when grease can be seen in the marked areas.
Before every use, verify that the snap ring on the pivot pin of the trailer ball assembly is in place and properly seated. If the snap ring is missing or the trailer ball pin has backed partially out, discontinue product use immediately and contact CURT Product Support.
If the ball is able to move with minimal hand force more than 5 degrees from the vertical position, the product must be replaced. This indicates wear or damage that could result in the trailer becoming separated from the vehicle. Contact CURT Product Support at 877-287-8634 if you have questions.
Safety chains must operate freely around the trailer ball system and must not become entangled. Entanglement could prevent the chains from functioning properly in an emergency. Additionally, check for adequate turning clearance between the front of all trailers and the truck cab to prevent collision during turns.
Use only the pins provided by the manufacturer. Use of any other pin could be a serious safety hazard and will void the warranty.
Failure to grease the trailer ball assembly may lead to failure and can result in serious injury or death. Proper lubrication with molybdenum-based grease every 3 months or 3,000 miles ensures the RockerBall operates safely and maintains its load-carrying capacity.
Verify that the trailer ball assembly fully seats in the gooseneck and can be fully locked by the pins. Ensure the snap ring on the pivot pin is in place and properly seated. Check that safety chains operate freely and do not become entangled. Confirm adequate turning clearance between the front of the trailer and the truck cab. Ensure the trailer ball size matches the trailer coupler.
Periodic inspection of your product should be performed to ensure all hardware and components remain secure. The manual does not specify an exact interval, but inspection should be part of regular vehicle maintenance and before every towing use.
The 60654 is designed for round-shank gooseneck hitches. For square-shank hitches, shank adaptors (included) must be installed. Confirm your hitch type and that the ball size matches your trailer coupler. Contact CURT Product Support at 877-287-8634 for fitment confirmation.
You need a 4mm Allen key. The kit includes the ball assembly, hitch cap, shoulder bolts, shank adaptors, and carry case. For maintenance, you'll need molybdenum-based grease.
The manual rates installation difficulty as 'Easy' and does not require professional installation. However, ensure you read all instructions thoroughly and use proper tools. If using shank adaptors, tighten hardware to 6 ft-lbs.
Tighten shank adaptor hardware to 6 ft-lbs (M6 bolt specification). This applies only if you are using adaptors for a square-shank hitch.
Grease the assembly prior to initial use, then every 3 months or 3,000 miles. Use molybdenum-based grease through the grease zerk at the front of the RockerBall. Failure to grease may result in failure and serious injury.
Gross trailer weight: 30,000 lbs. Tongue weight: 7,500 lbs. Do not exceed these limits.
Verify the snap ring on the pivot pin is in place and properly seated. Ensure the ball has not moved more than 5 degrees from vertical. Check that safety chains operate freely and do not entangle. Confirm adequate turning clearance between trailer and cab.
Discontinue product use immediately. The snap ring is a critical safety component that must be in place and properly seated before every use. Contact CURT Product Support at 877-287-8634 for replacement or repair.
Discontinue product use immediately. A partially backed-out pin indicates a serious safety issue that could result in trailer separation. Contact CURT Product Support at 877-287-8634 for repair or replacement.
This indicates the product is worn or damaged and must be replaced. Excessive movement could result in the trailer becoming separated from the vehicle during towing. Contact CURT Product Support at 877-287-8634 immediately.
The manual states that if the directional arrow faces the rear of the vehicle instead of the front, the performance of the RockerBall will be diminished, but does not explain the specific reason. Reinstall the assembly with the arrow pointing toward the front of the vehicle.
