The CURT RockerBall trailer ball is a cushion hitch ball that dynamically absorbs jerking and jarring from your trailer at the coupling point. Just bolt it onto your existing trailer hitch ball mount to enjoy increased comfort, enhanced control and extended longevity of your vehicle's systems. The RockerBall tow ball is engineered with ShockDrop technology: a cushion isolator that reduces noise, vibrations and chucking at the coupling point. This produces quieter towing, increased driver control over the trailer and reduced strain on the vehicle's brakes, towing system and suspension, compared to a conventional metal-on-metal towing connection. The RockerBall fits onto a variety of standard ball mounts -- virtually any ball mount with a 2-1/2-inch wide trailer ball tongue and 1-inch diameter ball hole. RockerBall is also virtually maintenance-free. Unlike other cushion hitch and torsion hitch options, it has no airbags or bearings to service. Just apply grease to the zerk fitting as needed for continuous lubrication and smooth towing. The RockerBall trailer ball is constructed from forged steel for exceptional strength, and it comes with a powder coat finish and chrome plating for dependable corrosion resistance. Note: This trailer ball comes with retail packaging.

The kit includes: (1) trailer ball assembly, (1) anti-rotation base plate, (1) lock washer (1"), and (1) hex nut (1"). The ball mount is sold separately and must be purchased independently.
Gross trailer weight (GTW) capacity is 7,500 lbs. Tongue weight (TW) capacity is 750 lbs. Never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity, as the trailer ball ratings represent only the product capability, not the entire towing system.
No. The ball mount must have a flat mounting surface for the trailer ball assembly and anti-rotation base plate to fully contact it when the hex nut is torqued to specification. Additionally, the trailer ball shank diameter must correspond with the ball mount hole size, and the trailer ball size must match the trailer coupler.
You must verify that the trailer ball size matches your trailer coupler before installation. If they do not match, the trailer could become uncoupled. Consult your trailer documentation or measure the coupler opening to confirm compatibility.
You need a torque wrench and socket. The torque wrench is essential to tighten the hex nut to the specified 250 ft-lbs.
1. Place the anti-rotation base plate over the trailer ball shank. Ensure the ball articulation is in the same direction as vehicle travel. 2. Place the lock washer over the shank and secure with the hex nut. 3. Tighten the hex nut to 250 ft-lbs. The threaded shank must extend beyond the nut when tightened. 4. Grease the assembly using the grease zerk on the bottom of the shank before initial use.
The anti-rotation base plate must be oriented so that its tabs fit freely over the width of the ball mount tongue. The trailer ball must be mounted so that the ball articulation is in the same direction as vehicle travel. Incorrect orientation can result in serious injury or death.
The 1" hex nut must be tightened to 250 ft-lbs. When properly tightened, the threaded shank must extend beyond the nut. Use a torque wrench to ensure the specification is met. Failure to tighten to the specified torque can result in serious injury or death.
Grease the trailer ball assembly using the grease zerk located on the bottom of the shank. Use a high-quality molybdenum-based grease. Grease before initial use and periodically thereafter. Failure to grease the assembly may lead to failure and can result in serious injury or death.
Before every use, verify that the snap ring on the pivot pin of the trailer ball assembly is in place and properly seated. If the snap ring is missing or the trailer ball pin has backed partially out of the assembly, immediately discontinue product use. A missing or improperly seated snap ring is a serious safety hazard.
If the ball is able to move with minimal force by hand more than five degrees from the vertical position, the product must be replaced immediately. A heavily worn or damaged trailer ball assembly may result in the trailer becoming separated from the vehicle. Contact CURT Product Support if you have questions.
No. Use of any pin other than what is provided by the manufacturer could be a serious safety hazard and will void the warranty.
Ensure that the safety chains operate freely around the trailer ball system and do not become entangled in the trailer ball system. Check this before every tow to prevent entanglement hazards.
After installation, verify that: (1) the hex nut is tightened to 250 ft-lbs., (2) the threaded shank extends beyond the nut, (3) the anti-rotation base plate tabs fit freely over the ball mount tongue, (4) the snap ring on the pivot pin is in place and properly seated, and (5) the assembly has been greased with high-quality molybdenum-based grease.
Periodically check the hex nut and ensure it is tightened to the correct torque specification of 250 ft-lbs. The manual does not specify an exact interval, but regular inspection before towing is recommended to maintain safety.
The CURT 40248 is a universal trailer ball assembly. You must verify that the ball size matches your trailer coupler and that the shank diameter corresponds with your ball mount hole size. The ball mount must have a flat mounting surface.
Yes. The ball mount is sold separately and must be purchased independently. You will also need a torque wrench and socket for installation.
No drilling is required. The CURT 40248 is assembled onto a ball mount using the provided hex nut and lock washer. Installation involves placing the anti-rotation base plate and lock washer over the shank and tightening the hex nut to 250 ft-lbs.
Tighten the 1" hex nut to 250 ft-lbs. using a torque wrench. The threaded shank must extend beyond the nut when properly tightened.
Grease the assembly before initial use and periodically using high-quality molybdenum-based grease applied through the grease zerk on the bottom of the shank. Periodically check that the hex nut is tightened to 250 ft-lbs. Before every use, verify the snap ring on the pivot pin is in place and properly seated.
Gross trailer weight (GTW) capacity is 7,500 lbs. Tongue weight (TW) capacity is 750 lbs. Never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity.
