The CURT RockerBall trailer ball is a cushion hitch ball that dynamically absorbs jerking and jarring from your trailer at the coupling point. Just bolt it onto your existing trailer hitch ball mount to enjoy increased comfort, enhanced control and extended longevity of your vehicle's systems. The RockerBall tow ball is engineered with ShockDrop technology: a cushion isolator that reduces noise, vibrations and chucking at the coupling point. This produces quieter towing, increased driver control over the trailer and reduced strain on the vehicle's brakes, towing system and suspension, compared to a conventional metal-on-metal towing connection. The RockerBall fits onto a variety of standard ball mounts -- virtually any ball mount with a 2-inch wide trailer ball tongue and 3/4-inch diameter ball hole. RockerBall is also virtually maintenance-free. Unlike other cushion hitch and torsion hitch options, it has no airbags or bearings to service. Just apply grease to the zerk fitting as needed for continuous lubrication and smooth towing. The kit includes one trailer ball assembly, one anti-rotation base plate, one 3/4" lock washer, and one 3/4" hex nut. The ball mount is sold separately and must be purchased independently.
The CURT 40246 has a gross trailer weight (GTW) capacity of 3,500 lbs and a tongue weight (TW) capacity of 350 lbs. However, you must never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity, and the actual limit is determined by the lowest-rated component in your entire towing system.
No. The trailer ball shank diameter must correspond with the ball mount hole size, and the ball mount must have a flat mounting surface. The trailer ball assembly and anti-rotation base plate must fully contact the ball mount when the hex nut is torqued to specification. Do not use the trailer ball on ball mounts that do not have a flat mounting surface.
You must ensure the trailer ball size matches the trailer coupler before installation. If they do not match, the trailer could become uncoupled. Verify the ball size specification against your trailer's coupler size before purchasing or installing.
You need a torque wrench and a socket. Proper tools will improve the quality of installation and reduce installation time.
1. Place the anti-rotation base plate over the trailer ball shank. Ensure the ball articulation is in the same direction as vehicle travel. 2. Place the lock washer over the trailer ball shank and secure with the hex nut. 3. Tighten the hex nut to 160 ft-lbs using a torque wrench. The threaded shank must extend beyond the nut when tightened. 4. Grease the trailer ball assembly using the grease zerk on the bottom of the shank before initial use.
The anti-rotation base plate must be oriented so that its tabs fit freely over the width of the ball mount tongue. The trailer ball must be mounted so that the ball articulation is in the same direction as vehicle travel. Incorrect orientation can result in serious injury or death.
The 3/4" hex nut must be tightened to 160 ft-lbs. The threaded shank must extend beyond the nut when tightened. Failure to tighten to the specified torque can result in serious injury or death.
Grease the trailer ball assembly before initial use and periodically thereafter using a high-quality molybdenum-based grease. Apply grease through the grease zerk located on the bottom of the shank. Failure to grease the trailer ball assembly may lead to failure and can result in serious injury or death.
Before every use, ensure the snap ring on the pivot pin of the trailer ball assembly is in place and properly seated. Immediately discontinue product use if the snap ring is missing or if the trailer ball pin has backed partially out of the assembly. If the ball is able to move with minimal hand force more than five degrees from the vertical position, the product must be replaced.

Periodically check the hex nut and ensure it is tightened to the correct torque specification of 160 ft-lbs. Regular inspection helps prevent loosening that could lead to product failure.
Never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity. Ensure safety chains operate freely around the trailer ball system and do not become entangled. Use only manufacturer-provided pins—use of any other pin could be a serious safety hazard and will void the warranty. Do not use the product on ball mounts without a flat mounting surface. The anti-rotation base plate tabs must fit freely over the ball mount tongue width.

Retighten the hex nut to 160 ft-lbs using a torque wrench. Periodically check the hex nut to ensure it remains at the correct torque specification. If the nut continues to loosen, the threaded shank may be damaged or the ball mount may not have a flat mounting surface. Verify the ball mount surface is flat and fully contacts the anti-rotation base plate when torqued.
