The CURT RockerBall cushion hitch dynamically absorbs jerking and jarring from your trailer at the coupling point. The ball easily bolts onto the included trailer hitch ball mount, giving you increased comfort, enhanced control and extended longevity of your vehicle's systems. The RockerBall tow ball is engineered with ShockDrop technology: a cushion isolator that reduces noise, vibrations and chucking at the coupling point. This produces quieter towing, increased driver control over the trailer and reduced strain on the vehicle's brakes, towing system and suspension, compared to a conventional metal-on-metal towing connection. This RockerBall kit comes with a standard ball mount, featuring a 5-inch drop and a 2-inch shank to fit most class 3, class 4 and class 5 hitch receivers. It also includes a threaded anti-rattle hitch kit. The RockerBall hitch ball is virtually maintenance-free. Unlike other cushion hitch and torsion hitch options, it has no airbags or bearings to service. Just apply grease to the zerk fitting as needed for continuous lubrication and smooth towing. The RockerBall trailer ball is constructed from forged steel for exceptional strength, and it comes with a powder coat finish and chrome plating for dependable corrosion resistance.

The CURT 45144 has a gross trailer weight (GTW) capacity of 7,500 lbs. and a tongue weight (TW) capacity of 750 lbs. However, you must never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity. The ball mount's ratings represent only the product's capability, not your vehicle's towing system. Always verify that all components of your towing system—vehicle, hitch receiver, ball mount, and trailer—meet or exceed the weight you plan to tow, and never exceed the lowest-rated component.
The CURT 45144 ball mount will fit trailers with couplers that match the ball size. Before installation, ensure the trailer ball size matches your trailer coupler. If the sizes do not match, the trailer could become uncoupled during towing. If you are unsure of your trailer coupler size, consult your trailer documentation or contact CURT customer service at 877-287-8634.
You will need a torque wrench and socket to install the CURT 45144. These tools are required to tighten the anti-rattle hitch pin to the correct torque specification of 35 ft-lbs., which is critical for safe operation. Proper tools will improve installation quality and reduce installation time.
The CURT 45144 package includes: (1) loaded ball mount assembly, (1) anti-rattle clamp plate, (1) anti-rattle hitch pin, and (1) clip. All components are required for proper assembly and operation.
Assembly follows four steps: (1) Place the anti-rattle clamp plate inside the hollow ball mount shank and align the nut with the hitch pin hole (the small tab on the back of the clamp plate may be bent straight to ease installation). (2) Insert the ball mount into your receiver tube and align with the hitch pin hole. (3) Place the supplied lock washer onto the anti-rattle hitch pin and thread the pin completely through the nut in the clamp plate. Tighten the pin to 35 ft-lbs. and insert the clip through the hole in the exposed end. (4) Grease the trailer ball assembly using the grease zerk on the bottom of the shank before initial use.
The anti-rattle hitch pin (1/2" pin) must be tightened to 35 ft-lbs. Failure to tighten hardware to the specified torque can result in serious injury or death. Use a torque wrench to ensure the correct tension is applied.
Grease the trailer ball assembly before initial use and then once every 3 months or 3,000 miles of use, whichever comes first. Use a high-quality molybdenum-based grease applied through the grease zerk located on the bottom of the RockerBall shank. The assembly is adequately lubricated when grease can be seen in the marked areas on the shank. Failure to grease the assembly may lead to failure and can result in serious injury or death.
Before every use, verify that the snap ring on the pivot pin of the trailer ball assembly is in place and properly seated. If the snap ring is missing or if the trailer ball pin has backed partially out of the assembly, immediately discontinue product use. Also ensure that safety chains operate freely around the trailer ball system and do not become entangled. These checks are critical to prevent trailer separation during towing.
The CURT 45144 has reached the end of its useful life and must be replaced when the ball can be moved five degrees or more from a vertical position with minimal force applied by hand. Continued use of a worn trailer ball assembly may result in the trailer becoming separated from the vehicle. If you observe this condition, consult CURT customer service at 877-287-8634 before further use.
Use of any pin other than what is provided by the manufacturer could be a serious safety hazard and will void the warranty. The supplied anti-rattle hitch pin is engineered specifically for the CURT 45144 and must be used to ensure safe operation and maintain product warranty coverage.
After installation, verify that: (1) the anti-rattle hitch pin is tightened to 35 ft-lbs., (2) the clip is inserted through the hole in the exposed end of the pin, (3) the snap ring on the pivot pin is in place and properly seated, (4) safety chains operate freely and are not entangled in the ball system, and (5) the ball mount is secure in the receiver tube with no movement. Before towing, grease the assembly using the grease zerk on the bottom of the shank.
Periodically check the hex nut and ensure it is tightened to the correct torque specification of 35 ft-lbs. Grease the assembly once every 3 months or 3,000 miles of use with high-quality molybdenum-based grease applied through the grease zerk on the bottom of the shank. Before every towing use, verify that the snap ring on the pivot pin is in place and properly seated. These maintenance steps are essential to prevent failure and ensure safe operation.
The CURT 45144 fits trailers with couplers that match the ball size. Verify the ball size matches your trailer coupler before installation, or the trailer could become uncoupled.
Tighten the 1/2" anti-rattle hitch pin to 35 ft-lbs. using a torque wrench.
Grease before initial use and then once every 3 months or 3,000 miles using high-quality molybdenum-based grease applied through the grease zerk on the bottom of the shank.
Verify the snap ring on the pivot pin is in place and properly seated. If missing or if the pin has backed out, discontinue use immediately.
Gross trailer weight capacity is 7,500 lbs. and tongue weight capacity is 750 lbs., but never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity.
