The CURT RockerBall trailer ball is a cushion hitch ball that dynamically absorbs jerking and jarring from your trailer at the coupling point. Just bolt it onto your existing trailer hitch ball mount to enjoy increased comfort, enhanced control and extended longevity of your vehicle's systems. The RockerBall tow ball is engineered with ShockDrop technology: a cushion isolator that reduces noise, vibrations and chucking at the coupling point. This produces quieter towing, increased driver control over the trailer and reduced strain on the vehicle's brakes, towing system and suspension, compared to a conventional metal-on-metal towing connection. The RockerBall fits onto a variety of standard ball mounts -- virtually any ball mount with a 2-1/2-inch wide trailer ball tongue and 1-inch diameter ball hole. RockerBall is also virtually maintenance-free. Unlike other cushion hitch and torsion hitch options, it has no airbags or bearings to service. Just apply grease to the zerk fitting as needed for continuous lubrication and smooth towing. The RockerBall trailer ball is constructed from forged steel for exceptional strength, and it comes with a powder coat finish and chrome plating for dependable corrosion resistance.

The CURT 40047 is rated for a gross trailer weight (GTW) of 7,500 lbs and a tongue weight (TW) of 750 lbs. These ratings represent the capability of the product itself and do not reflect the ratings of the towing system it is being used with. You must verify that your vehicle's towing capacity meets or exceeds these ratings, and never exceed the lowest rated component in your towing system.
The package includes: one trailer ball assembly, one anti-rotation base plate, one 1" lock washer, and one 1" hex nut. The ball mount is sold separately and must be purchased independently.
No. The ball mount is sold separately and must be purchased independently. The 40047 is the trailer ball assembly only.
The manual does not specify the ball mount hole size. You must ensure that the trailer ball shank diameter corresponds with the ball mount hole size before installation. Consult your ball mount documentation or contact CURT Product Support at 877.287.8634 to confirm compatibility.
The manual does not specify the ball size. You must ensure that the trailer ball size matches your trailer coupler. If they do not match, the trailer could become uncoupled. Verify the ball size before purchase or installation.
No. Do not use the trailer ball on ball mounts that do not have a flat mounting surface. The trailer ball assembly and anti-rotation base plate must fully contact the ball mount when the hex nut is torqued to the listed specification. Using it on a non-flat surface will prevent proper seating and could result in failure.
You will need a torque wrench and a socket. These are required to tighten the hex nut to the specified torque of 250 ft-lbs.
1. Place the anti-rotation base plate over the trailer ball shank. The trailer ball must be mounted so that the ball articulation is in the same direction as vehicle travel. 2. Place the lock washer over the trailer ball shank and secure with the provided hex nut. 3. Tighten the hex nut to 250 ft-lbs. The threaded shank must extend beyond the nut when tightened. 4. Grease the trailer ball assembly using the grease zerk located on the bottom of the RockerBall shank before initial use.
The anti-rotation base plate must be oriented so that the trailer ball articulation is in the same direction as vehicle travel. The anti-rotation base plate tabs must fit freely over the width of the ball mount tongue. Incorrect orientation can result in serious injury or death.
The 1" hex nut must be tightened to 250 ft-lbs. The threaded shank must extend beyond the nut when tightened. Failure to tighten to this specification can result in serious injury or death.
Grease the trailer ball assembly prior to initial use and once every 3 months or 3,000 miles of use, whichever comes first. Use a high-quality molybdenum-based grease applied through the grease zerk located on the bottom of the RockerBall shank. Failure to grease the trailer ball assembly may lead to failure and can result in serious injury or death.
The RockerBall is adequately lubricated when grease can be seen in the marked areas on the assembly. Refer to the diagram in Step 3 of the manual for the specific grease visibility areas.
Before every use, ensure that the snap ring on the pivot pin of the trailer ball assembly is in place and properly seated. Immediately discontinue product use if the snap ring is missing on the end of the trailer ball pivot pin or if the trailer ball pin has backed partially out of the trailer ball assembly.
If the ball is able to move with minimal force by hand more than five degrees from the vertical position, the product must be replaced. Use of a heavily worn or damaged trailer ball assembly may result in the trailer becoming separated from the vehicle. Contact CURT Product Support at 877.287.8634 if you have questions.
Yes. Use of any pin other than what is provided by the manufacturer could be a serious safety hazard and will void the warranty. Only use manufacturer-provided pins.
Ensure that the safety chains operate freely around the trailer ball system and do not become entangled in the trailer ball system. Proper routing prevents interference and ensures safe operation.
After installation, verify that: 1) the hex nut is tightened to 250 ft-lbs, 2) the threaded shank extends beyond the nut, 3) the anti-rotation base plate is oriented correctly with tabs fitting freely over the ball mount tongue, 4) the snap ring on the pivot pin is in place and properly seated, and 5) the product has been greased before initial use.
Yes. Periodically check the hex nut and ensure it is tightened to the correct torque specification of 250 ft-lbs. Regular checks help prevent loosening due to vibration or use.
No, the ball mount is sold separately. The 40047 is the trailer ball assembly only.
Gross trailer weight (GTW): 7,500 lbs. Tongue weight (TW): 750 lbs. Never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity.
You will need a torque wrench and socket to tighten the hex nut to 250 ft-lbs.
Tighten the 1" hex nut to 250 ft-lbs. The threaded shank must extend beyond the nut when tightened.
Grease prior to initial use and once every 3 months or 3,000 miles of use with high-quality molybdenum-based grease. Apply through the grease zerk on the bottom of the shank.
Yes. Periodically check that the hex nut is tightened to 250 ft-lbs. Also verify the snap ring is in place before every use.
