The CURT RockerBall trailer ball is a cushion hitch ball that dynamically absorbs jerking and jarring from your trailer at the coupling point. Just bolt it onto your existing trailer hitch ball mount to enjoy increased comfort, enhanced control and extended longevity of your vehicle's systems. The RockerBall tow ball is engineered with ShockDrop technology: a cushion isolator that reduces noise, vibrations and chucking at the coupling point. This produces quieter towing, increased driver control over the trailer and reduced strain on the vehicle's brakes, towing system and suspension, compared to a conventional metal-on-metal towing connection. The RockerBall fits onto a variety of standard ball mounts -- virtually any ball mount with a 2-1/2-inch wide trailer ball tongue and 1-inch diameter ball hole. RockerBall is also virtually maintenance-free. Unlike other cushion hitch and torsion hitch options, it has no airbags or bearings to service. Just apply grease to the zerk fitting as needed for continuous lubrication and smooth towing. The RockerBall trailer ball is constructed from forged steel for exceptional strength, and it comes with a powder coat finish and chrome plating for dependable corrosion resistance.

The CURT 40247 is a RockerBall™ trailer ball assembly designed for towing trailers. It includes a trailer ball assembly, anti-rotation base plate, lock washer, and hex nut. The product has a gross trailer weight (GTW) capacity of 7,500 lbs. and a tongue weight (TW) capacity of 750 lbs. The ball mount is sold separately.
Before installation, verify three things: (1) the trailer ball shank diameter matches the ball mount hole size, (2) the trailer ball size matches your trailer coupler, and (3) the ball mount has a flat mounting surface. If the ball size does not match the coupler, the trailer could become uncoupled. The anti-rotation base plate and trailer ball must fully contact the ball mount when the hex nut is torqued to specification.
You need a torque wrench and socket. These are required to tighten the hex nut to the specified 250 ft-lbs. torque.
Installation has three steps: (1) Place the anti-rotation base plate over the trailer ball shank, ensuring the ball articulation is in the same direction as vehicle travel. Place the lock washer over the shank and secure with the hex nut. (2) Tighten the hex nut to 250 ft-lbs.; the threaded shank must extend beyond the nut when tightened. (3) Grease the trailer ball assembly using the grease zerk on the bottom of the shank before initial use.
The anti-rotation base plate must be oriented so that the trailer ball articulation is in the same direction as vehicle travel. The anti-rotation base plate tabs must fit freely over the width of the ball mount tongue. Incorrect orientation can result in serious injury or death.
The hex nut must be tightened to 250 ft-lbs. using a torque wrench. The threaded shank must extend beyond the nut when tightened. Failure to tighten to this specification can result in serious injury or death.
Grease the trailer ball assembly before initial use and then once every 3 months or 3,000 miles of use, whichever comes first. Use a high-quality molybdenum-based grease applied through the grease zerk located on the bottom of the RockerBall™ shank. The assembly is adequately lubricated when grease can be seen in the marked areas. Failure to grease can lead to failure and serious injury or death.
The CURT 40247 has a gross trailer weight (GTW) capacity of 7,500 lbs. and a tongue weight (TW) capacity of 750 lbs. Never exceed the vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity. The ratings of the trailer ball represent the capability of the product and do not reflect the ratings or capacity of the complete towing system. Know the ratings of all components in your towing system and never exceed the limits of the lowest-rated component.
Before every use, verify that the snap ring on the pivot pin of the trailer ball assembly is in place and properly seated. Immediately discontinue product use if the snap ring is missing or if the trailer ball pin has backed partially out of the assembly. Also ensure that safety chains operate freely around the trailer ball system and do not become entangled.
The trailer ball must not move more than 5 degrees from the vertical position when pushed by hand with minimal force. If the ball is able to move more than 5 degrees from vertical, the product must be replaced. Use of a heavily worn or damaged trailer ball assembly may result in the trailer becoming separated from the vehicle.
After installation, verify that the hex nut is tightened to 250 ft-lbs. and that the threaded shank extends beyond the nut. Ensure the anti-rotation base plate tabs fit freely over the ball mount tongue width. Check that safety chains operate freely and do not become entangled. Confirm the snap ring is in place and properly seated on the pivot pin. Grease the assembly before initial use.
Periodically check the hex nut and ensure it is tightened to the correct torque specification of 250 ft-lbs. Regular inspection helps prevent loosening that could lead to product failure.
No. Use only the pin provided by the manufacturer. Use of any other pin could be a serious safety hazard and will void the warranty.
No. Do not use the trailer ball on ball mounts that do not have a flat mounting surface. The trailer ball assembly and anti-rotation base plate must fully contact the ball mount when the hex nut is torqued to the listed specification of 250 ft-lbs.
No. The ball mount is sold separately. You must verify that the trailer ball shank diameter matches your ball mount hole size and that the trailer ball size matches your trailer coupler.
A torque wrench and socket are required to tighten the hex nut to 250 ft-lbs.
Tighten the 1" hex nut to 250 ft-lbs. The threaded shank must extend beyond the nut when tightened.
Yes. Grease the trailer ball assembly before initial use and once every 3 months or 3,000 miles using high-quality molybdenum-based grease applied through the grease zerk on the bottom of the shank. Failure to grease can lead to failure.
Gross trailer weight (GTW) capacity is 7,500 lbs. and tongue weight (TW) capacity is 750 lbs. Never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity.
Immediately discontinue product use. The snap ring must be in place and properly seated before every use. A missing snap ring indicates the trailer ball assembly is not secure and could result in trailer separation from the vehicle. Contact CURT Product Support at 877-287-8634 for replacement or repair.
Immediately discontinue product use. If the trailer ball pin has backed partially out of the assembly, the product is not safe for towing and must be replaced. Contact CURT Product Support at 877-287-8634 for assistance.
The product must be replaced. If the ball is able to move more than 5 degrees from the vertical position when pushed by hand with minimal force, the assembly is worn or damaged. Use of a heavily worn or damaged trailer ball assembly may result in the trailer becoming separated from the vehicle. Contact CURT Product Support at 877-287-8634 for replacement.
Retighten the hex nut to 250 ft-lbs. using a torque wrench. Periodically check the hex nut to ensure it remains tightened to the correct specification. A loose nut can result in product failure and trailer separation. If the nut repeatedly loosens, contact CURT Product Support at 877-287-8634.
