Yes. Using a 10mm socket, remove the ground wire from the inside of the passenger side frame rail before beginning hitch installation. Return the fastener to the vehicle owner. The ground wire is reattached in step 6 using an M8 bolt, lock washer, and flat washer.
Two U-shaped spacer blocks (.188 x 1.00 x 2.00) are secured with masking tape to the inside of the frame rail in the recessed area, centered around the hole in the frame, on both sides. Do not cover the ground wire hole below the hitch mounting hole. Additionally, two .250 x 1.75 x 2.50 spacer blocks are secured with masking tape to the forward mounting hole of the hitch bracket outer surface, centering the hole in the block with the slot in the bracket, on both sides.
Fish wire is used to feed fasteners through the frame without removing the frame. The coiled end of fish wire is fed through the attachment hole and out of the access hole in the frame. The spacer block and carriage bolt are attached to the fish wire and pulled inside the frame (4 places). The fish wires are kept attached to the hardware and left inside the frame temporarily. When raising the hitch into position, the end of the fish wires are fed through the holes in the hitch, then pulled to position the fasteners. The fish wires are then carefully removed.
The conical washers should be installed with the teeth side against the hitch. They are loosely installed onto the carriage bolts along with hex nuts before final torquing.
On the driver's side, hold the wiring harness away from the hitch during installation to prevent interference or damage.
No. Fasteners should be left loose initially. After raising the hitch into position and feeding the fish wires through the hitch holes, the conical washers and hex nuts are loosely installed onto the carriage bolts. All fasteners are then tightened to specification using a torque wrench as the final step.
Check the hitch frequently to ensure all fasteners and the ball are properly tightened. Proper torque is essential to keep the hitch secure to the vehicle when towing.
If the hitch is removed, plug all holes in the trunk pan or other body panels to prevent entry of water and exhaust fumes.
A hitch or ball which has been damaged should be removed and replaced. Do not continue to use a damaged hitch.
Always wear safety glasses when installing the hitch. Observe safety precautions when working beneath a vehicle and wear eye protection. Do not cut access or attachment holes with a torch. Be careful to keep carriage bolts from falling inside the frame during installation.
Always wear your seatbelt. Slow down when towing and never exceed any posted speed limit. Load the trailer heavier in front. If excess sway occurs, take your foot off the gas pedal and hold the steering wheel as steady as possible. Do not apply your brakes and do not speed up. Always read and follow all warnings and instructions for your vehicle and other accessories used with the hitch before use.

The warranty covers material defects in both material and workmanship, excluding ordinary wear and tear. The manual warns to 'be careful to keep the carriage bolts from falling inside the frame.' If a bolt does fall inside, you will need to retrieve it using the fish wire or another retrieval method before proceeding. Ensure fish wires remain attached to hardware to prevent this issue. If retrieval is not possible, contact a professional installer or the manufacturer for assistance.
Yes, a compatible bike rack, cargo carrier or other accessory with a 2" x 2" shank can generally be used. Make sure the accessory does not exceed the hitch’s tongue weight rating, the vehicle’s limits or the accessory manufacturer’s capacity. Account for the combined weight of the carrier and everything loaded onto it.
