The pull wire system uses a coiled wire (fish wire) to thread fasteners through frame holes that are difficult to access. The coiled end of the pull wire is fed through the forward attachment hole and out the access hole. The spacer and carriage bolt are threaded onto the pull wire, then the pull wire is pulled to draw the fasteners into position. The pull wire remains attached until the conical washer and hex nut are installed.
The reverse pull wire procedure is used to install fasteners on the rear side of the frame rails. The carriage bolt is threaded onto the pull wire and fed into the access hole on the frame rail, then the spacer is fed onto the pull wire and into the access hole, and finally the carriage bolt is pulled into position through the spacer.
Plastic fascia rivets may be present. If they are present, remove them by extracting the center of the rivet with a flat-head screwdriver. Keep the rivets for reinstallation after the hitch is installed.
The conical washer must be positioned with the teeth side against the hitch. The conical washer is used to hold the bolt in place before the hex nut is attached.
Yes. After installing the conical washer and hex nut, hand-tighten both sides before applying final torque. All 1/2 GR5 fasteners are then tightened to 75 lb-ft (102 N·M) with a torque wrench.
Gently pull the fascia rearward as needed to gain access between the fascia and exhaust hanger when raising the hitch above the exhaust and feeding the pull wires through the attachment points on the hitch brackets.

Spray lubricant or soapy water on the metal hanger rod and the rubber isolator. This helps reduce friction and makes removal easier. Allow the lubricant to soak for a few minutes if needed before attempting removal.
Use a small flat-head screwdriver to remove the center of the rivet. If it is stuck, apply gentle pressure and work the screwdriver around the rivet center to loosen it before pulling it out. Keep the rivets for reinstallation.
Gently pull the fascia rearward to create more space. If access is still limited, ensure the exhaust is fully lowered and supported. You may need to lower it further or adjust the support to gain adequate clearance.
Stop and carefully work the pull wire free. Do not force it, as this may damage the wire or fasteners. Ensure the coiled end is properly fed through the forward attachment hole and out the access hole. If the wire is damaged, it may need to be replaced before continuing.
Ensure you are using a calibrated torque wrench and that all fasteners are properly seated. If a fastener resists tightening before reaching 75 lb-ft (102 N·M), stop and check that the carriage bolt, spacer, conical washer, and hex nut are all properly aligned and installed. Do not force the fastener, as this may strip the threads or damage the components.
